Here's what the HYPE is: re-designed, thinner enclosures for the iMac - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: no redesign at all
HYPE: new chips Ci7 - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: still on C2D
HYPE: new types of mice - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: no new mice
HYPE: new keyboards - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: no new keyboards
HYPE: BluRay in the iMac - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: no BluRay
HYPE: LED screens with matte option - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: same old screens
HYPE: SSD option - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: same old spinning discs
HYPE: redesigned mini case, possibly aluminum - that's an UPDATE
REALITY: same old, same old identical case
I SAY: NO UPDATES!!!!! this year
at best there will be a tiny refresh not UPDATE, consisting of speed bumps for the iMacs and possibly a price cut on the mini.
I am still reasonably hopeful about mildly spec/speed-bumped iMacs tomorrow.
Probably with a $100 price drop, which would translate to a Euro 999 entry price in Europe (including tax/VAT).

My MBP just started typing "update coming, update coming" as I opened up Pages... that's a sign. No, I'm just kidding. I'm with Corpse on this one. AT MOST A SLIGHT BUMP. I do think it will happen, but not a big deal, no big event. And possible a price cut. I'm so confident, I bought a new MBP last week, with no plans on paying a restocking fee for a slight bump.

They do have a conference call in 2 hours.
Every now and then new products will be at least mentioned in passing at such things. If they make no mention of new product for fall at the conference call today whatsoever, I think that may be a sign that nothing's doin'.
Of course, then, maybe not, lol. Who knows?

Slight bump?
Excuse my ignorance but I'm just curious as to how this would happen. If the iMac stays Core 2, isn't 3.06 ghz the fastest Intel currently offers?

Yes it is. Which is why it makes sense for Clarksfield to ship in the next iMac.
I hope you're wrong, but you'll probably be proven right. I'd add nominal price-cuts across the range. I fear anyone expecting much more is likely to end up disappointed.
And it's only $549. I have been thinking very seriously about getting the dm3. I was waiting to see if Apple was going to come out with a MB refresh at a cheaper price. But I don't think it's going to happen.

Since Clarksfield is available NOW, I'm not sure I understand why Apple wouldn't want to take advantage of it as opposed to waiting for Arrandale, especially for the higher end bto iMac's? The timing would seem perfect to counter the slick hardware coming with the release of Windows 7 and the holidays, and would neuter the obvious hit Apple will take from the likes of Dell/HP...etc if they don't have the "latest" hardware available.

I can understand why some don't the humour though. It takes a little bit of thought - but it certainly does help explain why Dane Cook keeps selling out concerts.

So there you have it. They already have their holiday lineup - and he thinks it's great.
New stuff is coming only in 2010. Just like I said.

It could mean.... they have a different lineup that they feel is strong for the holiday season.
hell, he could have said, "We feel our current lineup is very strong for the holiday season", but he didn't.
