Okay, Apple just let the cat out of the bag in today's financial results (live broadcast). NEW products this quarter (prior to end of year) will result in lowered margins and they also expect additional cost for increased air freight. The exact quote was something like, "lower margins based upon products that we have introduced and new products that we will introduce..." this quarter.

I too picked up on the comments surrounding air freight. Specifically the words "abnormally higher" air freight than other holiday quarters and "sorry I can't be specific about the product".

I got chills when I heard that, so it MUST mean new iMacs ;)

Plus they're expecting lower Snow Leopard box sales for the holiday quarter. Perhaps because they'll instead be preloaded on new machines?

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself.

But that doesn't mean new iMacs tomorrow. It could be another week or two.

Thanks :)

Let's analyze the statement a bit.

"We are thrilled to have sold more Macs and iPhones than in any previous quarter," said Apple chief executive Steve Jobs.

Nothing special here. Congrats I guess :p
..."We've got a very strong lineup for the holiday season...
- Honestly, we can all agree that the hardware in for example iMacs aren't the best, but sure, they work.
- Also, I don't see how shortages with iMacs and Mac Mini (Apple Store, Amazon, Best Buy) could mean "strong lineup", but I suppose he refers to the product line itself, and not the availability.
- It could, it theory, mean that they have updates coming and ready for the upcoming Holiday season.
...and some really great new products in the pipeline for 2010."
- I'm thinking tablet, new iphone etc.
- Q1 is tomorrow...but I think Jobs referred to year 2010, not Q1.

And finally, we should all remember that apples best weapon against the upcoming "MS-HP-Dell-Sony-week" is the moment of surprise! With new products they can take some of the eyes looking off off MS and other vendors.

without coming flat out and saying it, they basically just confirmed new product and soon.

This week or next, or not at all.

Thanks :)

The only way they'll really surprise is if they release the tablet early...

And agree - if, due to the HUGELY ABNORMAL increase in freight costs they're expecting ;), we go back to the theory of "it'll be big enough to warrant an event", maybe invites will go out later this week. Or next week.. or..

Can't remember who said it, but it makes perfect sense to do it -after- Windows 7, deeming Oct 22 old news.

I read that part of the quote as "we've planned out our holiday season line up, and it's looking strong". That doesn't by any means mean they've already shown their hand :)

I can see Apple updating the iMac's, mini, and Macbook tomorrow with a silent update and then having an event on Tuesday for the Tablet and :apple:TV, along with a new iPod touch with a camera! This way we will Really be surprised:D

No way that is going to happen, let's be reasonable. Perhaps slightly tweaked versions of the Mac mini and white MacBook tomorrow with a completely redesigned iMac in the next one to two weeks.

will we be really, really, really, really surprised? That would take tablet, quad core, bluray, USB 3.0, and cheaper prices.....

rumors at Gruber that Apple will release a slew of new products (maybe) tomorrow...

including a MULTI-TOUCH TRACKPAD for iMAC.

:D

klrobinson999, moneyman118 called it here first! tablet, quad core, bluray, usb 3.0, cheaper prices and topless laides, or topless guys for the few gals here, dancing on every iMac/tablet screen out of the box!

MacBook Mid 2007

I posted earlier today about this "new" MacBook spotted on a UK site this morning

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5071089/Trail/searchtext>ARGOS+APPLE+STORE.htm

£70 cheaper than the normal £749 MacBook here in the UK, but it has a 2.0 CPU & 120gb hard drive.

I just looked at the link you posted and that MB looks and sounds a lot like mine..bought Spring 2007...Actually, mine came with more RAM installed on it...
It also looks a bit pricey for what you get...
Cheers!

Dan Lyons Apparently Thinks Yours Truly Doesn’t Know About the Redesigned Plastic MacBooks, Redesigned (‘Impressive’) iMacs, Updated Minis (Including One That Ships With Mac OS X Server), the Multi-Touch Magic Mouse, and, as the Wildcard Out-There Rumor, Maybe Even Some Sort of Mentioned-Nowhere-Else-But-in-This-Very-Headline Multi-Touch Trackpad Gadget for Desktop Macs That Apple Is Set to Release Tomorrow Morning

Whooo-ooooooo!

Now it's 90% sure! Or Gruber is gonna loose his face!

I got both my credit cards, just in case! :D:cool:

"The air freight is not related to the iPhone so these are unrelated topics. But, generally speaking the air freight is planned to get enough units in to the channel in time for the holidays and is necessary for that reason."

and

"It’s more than normal so you’re correct that in general we spend more in freight in Q1. However, this increase is larger than usual. I’m sorry I can’t be specific on the product but it’s an abnormal sequential increase."

While I still hold out hope for a major iMac update very soon, these quotes don't necessarily mean new iMacs. I mean, why would new iMac shipment costs be larger than usual? Wouldn't these costs be the same with the current iMacs? To me, this implies a new product, like maybe a new ipod touch with camera. However, I'm still clinging to the hope that nice shiny new iMacs with Clarksfield will be announced any day now.

Can someone please tell me who these people are and why we are all taking their word as fact?

Dan Lyons (or Fake Steve) runs a blog ("The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs").

In the last entry, he wrote this:

John Gruber (who runs another, much more famous and reliable blog called Daring Fireball, which predicted a lot of things in the past and always provides excellent analisys about Apple stuff) read that entry and thought "so you think I don't know? Wanna see what I don't know?? You asked for it, I'm gonna tell it all in my next blog entry so everybody tomorrow will know that I KNEW!". So in his last blog entry, Gruber wrote that strange long headline to show-off that HE KNOWS, so tomorrow he can rub it in the face of fake steve. If those things don't come true, he will loose his face.

This.

Who is this Gruber and why should we take his word as gospel?

That said, I'm VERY excited about the prospects of a new Macbook.
