The thing is, most people don't need to be "productive" on their phone. I also like the idea of a big screen but in reality it's not all that great. Every time I use a big screen phone I wonder what it actually ads to the experience that compensates for the practical downsides (weight, looks ridiculous in your jeans (or doesn't even fit!) etc.).
And the fact that you can actually, comfortably, use an iPhone with one hand really IS a big plus. Try that with a 5" phone..

And I honestly question the premise that people really want those big phones. They only people I see with them are mostly tech junkies. People who want nice specs. If you want top specs with an Android you are forced into buying the huge screen models. A small screen Android phone with top specs would be, imho, a gigantic sales hit. So yeah, the big phones are somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy.
Other people have iPhones or smaller android phones.

I couldn't agree with this more.

Not, it's really not. Having one device on the go to be productive is a great advantage that many people want. Phones do way more than just make calls now days.

why not just allow the iPad to make calls then? because it isn't practical to walk around with it.

there is no way that "phone" fits in a normal pocket

I have never believed they would launch two new sizes at the same time. Very un-apple-like. Having 2 sizes in testing and settling on one for launch makes much more sense. And I really hope it's the 4.7", as a 5.5" phone is ridiculous and would make me consider non-apple options for the first time. Even 4.7" is really pushing it IMO (unless they get most of that space from reducing bezel size).

Really, is it that simple ?? :D:D

Analyst jobs are a dime a dozen... so yes it is. My buddy went from an assistant to a development executive at Newline for about a year to a TV ratings Analyst job at Warner Bros. after he got laid off.

It's an entry level job. I mean worst case scenario is find a firm that handles consumer tech, apply for whatever entry level position there is and get your foot in the door and stick around until they hire more analysts... you could also go cold call and ask where they pull their temps from and apply to that temp agency to get in the door.

I think they should just have two models: 5.0" and 4.0". There are a lot of people who still want a smaller 4" device, and also a lot of people who want to go bigger. I think that 5" with a slimmed bezel would be the best compromise, as it hits that magical 5" number that lures in a lot of people without being a massive phablet. I would buy a 5" iPhone. 1280x720 would be 294ppi, and 1920x1200 would be 462ppi. So 1080p would be quite the overkill, but considering the A7 can run that today, the A8 die-shrink with a larger battery shouldn't have any issue. Making it 1080p today would cover them in the future if they decide to go bigger as it would keep the ppi above retina at even 6". Not that I think that's a good idea! People like my wife wouldn't buy another iPhone if they stopped making a 4" or smaller model, and people like my mother-in-law would never buy an iPhone if it remained tiny. I actually know several older people who only buy Android because they screen is easier to read—even though they hate the phone and can't figure it out! My eyes are starting to go a little—which is why I love my Retina iPad Mini.

Having spent 3 months with a GS4 I feel 5" would be sweet. Definitely no bigger, maybe slightly smaller. Have looked at the note series of phones and they are too big IMO for a phone, unless you're a Wookie.

I'm not saying they aren't capable of surprising me; I'm saying it would in fact be a surprise. As the 5c/5s launch was last fall.

Right, and my point was also thought to be "un Apple like" last year at this time and it occurred when they released both. There's been a lot of "un Apple like" things going on the past few years (Q3 iPhone refreshes, complete UI overhaul, Apple Maps QC error, "antennagate", etc.).

Hard to say what is truly "Apple like" these days.

@apple
You currently offer 11", 13" and 15" laptops. And you trust me to pick the size that seems right for me.
Even the iPad is offered in two sizes.

Please do the same for iPhone. I/we would love some choice, when it comes to screen size.
You don't need to decide for me.

Yea so big! I need a briefcase to carry my phone around with me. Good thing every pocket in existence ever made is the exact dimensions of an iPhone 5. That's clearly the Galaxy Mega, which carries a screensize of 6.3 inches, not mentioned in the article, and not even listed as a possible larger iPhone size.

the sad fact is that with a case on the Mega you cannot fit it in a normal pair of jeans or pants.

They are gonna make devs angry by changing screen size so often...

Yes, because they have only changed it once so far in six years of phones. Added the iPad and iPad mini over that same span and some retina screens. Still, by my count, far below what happens almost monthly on the android front. Oh, and iOS users spend more money on apps than android users. I'm sure the devs will be reaching for their pitchforks and heading into the streets.
