This is going to piss off a lot of people.

Yes it is.

Such a shame Steve isn't here to tell his minions it's OK. The challenge Apple faces has been compounded by the void left by the passing of their God.

If true, this is an extremely smart move on Apples part. Making the 5.5" iPhone their flagship complete with features exclusive to only the 5.5 is simply brilliant.

& with iTunes Match, I don't really need that much space

Unfortunately iTunes Match is too flawed for me to use - for example it replaced many of the instrumental versions in my collection with original versions featuring full vocals  and some of the tracks uploaded fine, but cannot be played on any iDevice (without any error shown or anything like that - they are just skipped). I miss ratings and playlist sync, but had to turn iTunes Match off...

You're not in the minority. Browse the boards. You'll see others crying about wanting/"needing" 128gb on their PHONE! Their freaking PHONE FOR ******* SAKE!

It's a combination of a PDA, iPod and Phone. That's why ON THEIR PHONE! is where they'd like to have enough storage for what they would have to carry 3 devices to have the same functionality only a decade ago.

I'd rather have to get used to a 5.5" iPhone over a 4" one if it had a much higher battery life and a 128Gb capacity than stick with my 16Gb iPhone 5 and juggle my iTunes library around the varying amount of room iOS data consumes.

They're never going to just do 2 models with fixed storage of around 32Gb and then allow SD card usage, they make too much from charging for higher capacities and I'm happy with iOS for the most part so I won't switch to some Android/Windows Mobile alternative because I'd hate it within a day.

I plan on getting the 5.5" model anyhow so it's no biggie to me.

I kind of like this. I'm happy with my note 3 so larger phones don't scare me but I could consider a phablet iPhone 128 GB in the future.

I mean larger phones beg to be used more for media which in turn favors more storage especially if streaming isn't always an option.

Fine by me. I don't want a giant phablet, nor do I need 128GB. 4.7" and 64GB is perfect. It'll be even better if the demand is lower because of all the people wanting the phablet. I cringe every time I see someone with one of those huge Notes up to their ear.

Cringe huh? :)
I admit, it does look rather silly but that's what speakerphone and texting are for.

Im thinking of getting my first iphone but if they make the 4.7 a crippled version feature wise compared to the 5.5...ill stick to Android where all features are available. I dont think they will though, they didnt really with the ipad air and mini.

They're too big to use as a phone and too big for a shirt pocket. If you carry one in a handbag and only text, I guess it's fine, but for those of us who use a phone as a phone, it just looks silly.

Most people don't use a phone as a phone anymore. I've made three phone calls this month I think.

Lines on the back of the phone

everyone says they don't like them. my question is this: Since they are SO much bigger, will that allow for better reception? forgive me I'm naive about antennas and such. but in my little mind i would think bigger antenna = better reception? and isn't that most important factor on our everyday phone/lifeline?

you must work for yourself or be a waiter in a restaurant. people use phones all the time. Email ls always easier but when you need something in the now an email isn't good enough.

That's what text messages are for.

Commence the outpour of complaints.

Steve wouldn't have allowed this.
How am I gonna hold it with one hand?
How will I fit this in my skinny jeans?
Might as well put a phone in a iPad mini.
If I wanted a Phablet, I'd buy a Samsung.
But will Safari be snappier?

Did I cover them all?

Is it waterproof?

After thinking about the new twist; it a great marketing move by Apple to indicate which iPhones are Premium, mid tier and low tier. I think they are saying to the consumer: Premium 5.5", mid-tier 4.7" and low tier - 4"!

From the new model Touch; the iPhone 5S will not get updated components and will become the 6C. It will just be re-marketed in a plastic case and maybe take out the 64GB model since it is now a low tier model just like the 5C is now, no 64GB. It will come in colors and be aimed at the low cost contract carrier marketplace. Apple has already produce the 5C with 8-16MB of storage for high-end tier developing marketplace like India, China and some Africa countries.

I don't think so, more like...

4.7
199 32 GB
299 64 GB

5.5
299 32GB
399 64GB
499 128GB

Storage has gotten so cheap. I don't think Apple wants to piss everyone off like that

Since when has apple cut their customers some slack on storage costs? Just look at what they charge for icloud compared to the competition.

I expect apple to go in hard and with no lube.......

Except the the iPad mini and the Air both have identical specs other than size. So making the phones have different memory options would be a departure from Apple's previous product lines and be very unfair to those who want an iPhone that has more storage but not be so huge in the hand. They didn't screw iPad users that way, so why should phone users have to put up with that? One of the things I love about my Mini is that it does everything the larger iPad does without being so unwieldy.

iPad Mini Retina has a ppi of 326 while iPad Air has a ppi 264!
iPad Air has a better color palette component then the iPad Mini Retina.

Otherwise, they are the same components inside!

I need 128 GB on my phone. My 64 iGB now is packed to bursting.

What I need even more than that: a deep, soul-searching re-evaluation of what I REALLY need to have stored offline on my phone 24/7/365.

(Note to Apple--the final piece of this puzzle: let me delete an app and reinstall it without losing my app data. Prime example: games are huge files! And I hate to lose my progress. Let me store only my favorite few dozen games of the moment, yet let me re-install ANY of my zillion games at will and pick up right where I left off. It's not as though saved-game files will take up that much iCloud space. This would make both iCloud and local backups SO much more useful than the current all-or-nothing-or-weird-hack approach.)

All of this.

No more 16 Gb iPhones?

With the deep discounts on 16 Gb iPhone 5C and 5S at Walmart and Costco, it looks like Apple may be preparing to phase out all 16 Gb iPhone models. Apple might be moving 16 Gb chips into their iPods and out of their iPhones.

Seems to work well enough for me, but then again I don't listen to music a whole lot on my phone. Only error I have noticed is that it randomly shows up doubles of a song in the list.
