Some people keep saying that a phone "doesn't need more than xyz GB", what you're forgetting is that this phone also has the potential to be used for more tablet-liek applications. I really like my iPhone 5 but there are several games that I just can't play on it as I'm used to the screen estate of the iPad mini and iPad 3. However, if the 5.5 offers enough space, it'll be a welcome device for me to use and let's face it, there are more and more large apps around these days, 1+ GB.

Ohh I hear you I'm not saying we don't need it I've just lived without it (deleting games I don't use and redownload info when I do).

Bring on the 128 I won't be buying it but I'm sure some will.

I have no idea what I'll buy this year. A few years ago I knew a guy with the original Samsung Note and it felt too big to me (I have tiny hands), but if the 5.5" is the only one with some features I may buy anyway. I'm just concerned about typing. I have trouble typing on my iPhone 5 in landscape mode. I think I'll have to hold both to decide what feels better if they do two sizes. Luckily, 128GB doesn't matter to me since I have a 16GB now. I'm out of space and hoping for 32 this time, but 128GB isn't needed for me.

I wouldn't blame Apple for sticking with 2 storage sizes. 16gb isn't a great user experience in my opinion and the cost to Apple is negligible. Think about how many models a US Apple store has to keep straight: 3 Colors, 3 Storage Sizes, 4 Carriers = 36 iPhone 5S models. Two screen sizes would double that to 72 models. Taking away one storage capacity lowers it to 48 models to keep straight. They already only offer two storage sizes on the 5c, limiting it to 40 models.

Common core math fail.

Removing 1 size in 3 colors from 4 carriers would remove 12 from 72 models.

Looks pretty good to me, although I admit the chunky edges will be missed. It made the phone easier to hold lol.

I will get the biggest screen size and the biggest storage capacity of the next iPhone - that’s all that matters to me.

Ideally I’d like to see iPhone 6 in 3 screen sizes (4’’, 4.7’’, 5.5’’) with 3 capacities (32/64/128Gb) for all - but considering how chunky OIS modules are, I don’t see them in smaller size models.

My music library is 45Gb - I don’t play it all frequently, but I love to have an option to access any of it on the go at any time. There’s a reason why people buy 160Gb iPods, you know…

And during my recent holidays I took 15Gb of photos and videos - it was nice to be able to keep them all on the phone until I came back home as I was abroad and connectivity was lacking.

Add to that ever increasing app sizes - especially games, but not limited to them (Pages / Numbers / Keynote / iPhoto / iMovie / GaragaBand are all enormous).

Also, with 5.5’’ screen I’m much more likely to watch TV and movies on my phone.

Basically, if you don’t need it - doesn’t mean that others don’t!

Not trying to say you don't need it, I have a 32GB, because of my music library, but I hardly listen to it all & with iTunes Match, I don't really need that much space, I have a long of Apps but I could tell you that about 80% of them I don't use regularly. I can understand as screen sizes increase app sizes will too.

Music and offline maps.

38 gbs of music, 5.8 of pics/vids (granted I prob don't need all of these), 4-5 gbs of apps (could erase a few games I suppose). only have 6.8 gbs left.. with how much music I download, this won't last long. Also, why are people on here so concerned about what people do with their space?? Theres no reason Apple can't add 128 GB to their phones.. it's not like it would be expensive on their end. 128 GB would be perfect, I would never have to worry about running out of space.

Ummm...I'm lost

people are comparing the two as if they are in the same category. ones a phone and one is a phablet.

Now i know that sounds ridiculous, and thats because it is indeed ridiculous. but thats what is trending right now, phablets. I know that word started off as a joke but its now taken seriously. So when people complain about one over the other, its really not like that, two separate categories.

Im not saying i believe it should be that way, I'm saying thats how others see it. And my other point was this -- People with 5.5 inch screens intend on watching WAY more data (movies, games, tv shows) than people with the 4.0,4.7 intend on doing, thats why the 5.5 has the most GBs. again, maybe not my belief but thats just the way it is. 5.5 = data 4.7 = phone calls /texts <-- in the most general sense

I would love a sapphire screen and 128GB storage but i wouldn't love a 5.5" iPhone. Dilemma right there.

ohhhh i think you'd be loving it after about a week of use

Interesting.

Its funny when people say a 5.5" phone can't fit in their skinny jeans...because my 5.7" Note 3 definitely fits in mines...actually have skinny jeans on now, with my Note 3 in my pocket.

i was a fool to believe this too. i originally wanted the 4.7 for this exact reason.. then one day my buddy pulled his note 3 (with a case) out of his pocket. i asked him to let me experiment. i was wearing the same kind of jeans i wear everyday and not only does it fit but it falls right it. its not EVEN A TIGHT FIT!!!! are these people wearing like super tailored suit pockets? i just don't understand it. even fit in the front pocket, it was a little uncomfortable but it fit. and who the heck puts their phone in their front pocket anyways? it even fits in the pocket on a dress shirt, i mean a little sticks out the top but the fact that it fits there kills this argument people have in my opinion

Yes, it's true. The 5.5 will exclusively feature an OIS camera and option for 128GB RAM. It will also only be available in hipster orange. /sarc.

^I'd get the orange in a heartbeat. Would complement my yellow Lumia nicely.

They can make a phone with 1TB of storage for all I care, but the base model needs to be bumped to 32GB and stay at the base model price. Even with the cloud and streaming technology lowering our dependence on local device storage 16GB is too low for a modern smartphone. 32GB is a perfect starting point for most people and the heavy users can still upgrade if they so choose.

Though most could "get by" with 16GB, I'm willing to bet those people would love the additional flexibility of 32GB but get priced out by Apple's crazy $100 memory markup on an already expensive phone.

Somebody here posts it in just about every thread that mentions a new Apple product. I suggest a time out for anyone who posts Safari is snappier and Shut up and take my money. And a longer time out if posting this image. And it doesn't count for me since I am just using it as an example.

And I really just quoted it, so I'm good too.

Same happens everywhere, seems like finally some non-Apple devices are causing excessive use of that "meme". ;)

Well hopefully the iPod Touch is a good guide and storage will double for $50 on the outright prices in the next round. Although I do suspect they'd keep the 5c to only 16Gb to get it down to $449 outright.

The storage they use are just a bunch smaller chips packaged together right?

I wonder if they couldn't get 24Gb packages like you get with CF cards. So the iPhone 5c/s stay around with 24/48 options and the expected price drop.

We've waiting a higher capasity ipod for years. Maybe this is the clue of 5.5 inch ipod touch with 128 and 256 gb.

Commence the outpour of complaints.

Steve wouldn't have allowed this.
How am I gonna hold it with one hand?
How will I fit this in my skinny jeans?
Might as well put a phone in a iPad mini.
If I wanted a Phablet, I'd buy a Samsung.
But will Safari be snappier?

Did I cover them all?

I think you forgot:

APPLE IS DOOMED!

i don't like the back, and the front is no better..

I had hopped Apple had reduced the bezel. (if this is real of course)

Staggering the release of both sizes is a mistake. I won't buy the 4.7 until I see the 5.5.

Yes, but you will buy one or the other. That's all Apple really cares about.

Apple has had staggered releases of iOS devices before, mostly iPads. First gen it was WiFi then a month later WiFi+3G. Also iPad and original iPad mini were staggered then the iPad Air and iPad mini Retina were.

I don't think Apple likes to do it this way, but sometimes parts for one model are scarcer so there is no other option except to push then entire launch back, which is really a non-option.

At any rate most people know ahead of time which size they want, so they'll either pre-order the 4.7 or wait for the 5.5 if, in fact, it is a staggered launch. In this instance I don't think people waiting all this time for a large screen iPhone are going to say "screw it" a month before release and buy a Galaxy. If they wanted a Galaxy they'd already own one. So very little risk to Apple of lost sales.

Well, the Note 4 will be released right around that time as well, and everyone looking for a 5.5"+ phone would be a fool not to give that a serious consideration.

I know I will.

I need to understand the back before I can dislike it. The back does look odd.

It's the antenna. It always looks odd on the white model because it stands out. It's no different than the 5 and 5s except it's filled in on those. But when it first came out everyone thought it looked stupid. People got use to it or put a case over it and forgot about it. Really not a huge deal at all. Complainers just don't have anything else to moan about. Who cares about a backside that gets covered up anyway.
