YESSSSSS!!! This is perfect! Got my ideal screen size, hopefully ideal storage. This phone could be the one that I keep for the long haul. :D

YESSSSSS!!! This is perfect! Got my ideal screen size, hopefully ideal storage. This phone could be the one that I keep for the long haul. :D

I hope so. I'm sick and tired of playing the exchange game. I've already gone down from having 3-4 phones per year in the "early days" to 1-2 phones a year in 2010 or so and I've now had the iP5 for 18 months or so. Looking forward to something that I could get by with for 2-3 years or so.

I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, I'd get a 128GB version without a moment's hesitation.

On the other hand, I make increased use of the cloud for all my data and services, have a large data pool (10GB, shared with my wife) and have already been pondering whether I could get away with a 16GB iPhone 6.

iCloud photo storage in iOS 8 will help even more, keeping small, thumbnail type versions of photos on the phone rather than full sized versions...gigs and gigs and gigs not required.

I more or less fill my 64GB phones, but that's because I can, not because I have to.

EDIT: for giggles I just checked my Usage and excluding photos and music I only have 15.1GB of stuff. And looking at the list I could easily shed a couple of gigs without missing anything.

Since screen size is a feature, just as CPU speed or amount of RAM, what you are asking for does not make any sense.

Several components are limited by physical size as well, so obviously a bigger phone will have more room available for things such as OIS, more storage chips etc.

Nonsense. My post makes perfect sense, so let me help you.

Screen size on a phone is an "arguable" feature--some want a bigger size, but some (like me) prefer a smaller size. I approach the concept of screen size based on the rumor that Apple is introducing larger screens because of studies showing consumer demand for a larger screen; yet, somehow, other studies show only about 1/3 of current iPhone owners want a bigger screen. To introduce different screen sizes with feature parity would demonstrate the real consumer demand regarding sizes.

Second, there is no real limitation for features which could be included in both models (memory, cpu speed, sapphire glass) based on size, except perhaps the OIS camera. I am curious about this aspect, but I suspect as with most Apple products, this is an artificial distinction which is designed to either drive sales to a higher priced/higher margin product or to restrict sales due to limited availability of components (sapphire glass? OIS camera?).

What I am asking for is (1) the ability to buy a new phone in my preferred size (4" or less) which is not housing components from a year ago (I believe Apple will keep the 5s/c model as a low cost option), (2) no artificial product differentiation, and (3) no manipulated claims that all consumers want bigger screens (4.7", 5.5") based on the fact that Apple does not offer an updated 4.0" model. I don't need 128GB of storage, but I am very interested in sapphire glass and will pass on the 4.7" model (the only new model I would consider buying unless Apple also releases a new 4.0" model) if sapphire glass is restricted to the 5.5" model. The 5.5" model is just too big for my liking.

Screen size on a phone is an "arguable" feature--some want a bigger size, but some (like me) prefer a smaller size.

So is every other feature as well. Some want a big 41 MP shooter with OIS, some are happy with a decent smartphone cam and others still would rather have no camera at all and pocket the difference. Some people want a faster CPU, most people probably would never know the difference. Some want plastic, others want metal. You pick what's important to you and choose the product that best fits your needs.

There are loads and loads of artificially imposed limits in every product line of every manufacturer. This isn't going to change before we somehow manage to move from mass production to custom product creation on a massive scale.

EDIT: I also hope that the 5.5" won't have sapphire glass on it. I'd hate to have a thicker, heavier, darker and more fragile screen in order to fix a problem with scratching that I've never had to begin with.

If only they could develop a nice stylus (not Galaxy note type stylus, think Evernote/Jot script type stylus) for taking notes, this 5.5 phone would be so perfect for me.

I hate people that want a 5.5" Iphone!

I want a NEW 4" iPhone (Thats going to be the flagship Elite model) that doesnt look like the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, or 5S!!!!!! :)

So i continue with the differences between 4.7 and 5.5"
1)Optical stabilisation for the 5.5"
2)Sapphire glass only for 5.5"
3)128gb only for 5.5"
4) Keep on going Apple this road and i will stick with my 5s

Go ahead

hell no!!!!!

If they do not release a 16GB 4.7 then I might as well go to Android. My music's already on my Classic, and everything else can be clouded. I ain't paying 700 f&#%ing dollars for a phone on contract!

Can i put some more oil on the fire and say that Iphone 6 4.7 model with come with only 1GB of RAM, and big screen flagship Iphone 6 5.5 will be with 2 GB of RAM.
Here you go, people who want smaller screen, it will be your final knock out blow! :D :D :D  :apple: ENJOY YOU NEW IPHONE 4.7 ! LOL

Seems a daft move to make. They make more profit on the higher capacity models as the extra memory doesn't cost anywhere near the extra Apple charge. Given that you would think they would want to get as many people as possible to buy a 128k model. Plus the more memory the more apps and iTunes content you can download which makes more money for developers and Apple. Seems a no brainer to me.

5.5 may offer 3d screen and lytro camera.
4.7 can suck it.

Kind of looking like the 4.7" is the economy model for the iphone 6! Hard to believe that Apple is dumbing down the standards for the larger - smaller model right away! LOL! The 4" version will either be discontinued or will be polycarbonate - with the same inners as the 5S with the exception of maybe the LTE 6 and 802.11ac - around $10 for both. I don't think Apple will upgrade the SoC since that might be too expense for them - $19 dollars more! If they do the polycarbonate; Apple would still make the same profit margin as the 5C with the upgrades without the A8 SoC. But knowing Apple; I think they will just leave everything the same -since people who buy the 4" are those who know nothing about technology and don't care either about the price along as it looks good and feels decent. Apple is going to make a lot on the 4" since a lot of the users are the older people who don't want to change to a larger size model anyways. Give them old technology inside and a new look for like $100 less and they think they got a super deal! Apple will limit the storage like on the 5C! No 64GB or 128GB model again. It the sucker's phone. LOL!

Exactly!

If this is true, then I'm one of them. Having premium options is one thing, but basing those options on device size makes no sense.

Exactly! I mean there are plenty of rich guys who are premium but have really small... apartments ;)

Fine by me. I don't want a giant phablet, nor do I need 128GB. 4.7" and 64GB is perfect. It'll be even better if the demand is lower because of all the people wanting the phablet. I cringe every time I see someone with one of those huge Notes up to their ear.
