Used Apple gift card, AMEX and a Visa, over the multiple orders,

I did do almost every thing in its own order too. Not only did Apple decide to cancel the watch that was set to ship first, but it was also the one that I had paid with mostly Apple gift cards.

I ordered 2 watches on 2 separate orders but with the same card so I hope I won't have a problem. I used the app to order and didn't see a way to add a 2nd to the cart. I have the early shipping window so will be super pissed if they get cancelled especially because the 2 iPhone 6 Plus I ordered at midnight during launch got cancelled days later for no reason and Apple could never explain.

Was it on the same Apple ID?

Yes my 3 were on same Apple ID, had I realized the 2 limit I may have used wife Apple ID, but with same shipping address and everything connected with family sharing and CC on accounts it may not have made a difference

has anyone else proactively cancelled their 3rd order? I haven't heard anything from apple yet but are worried that if I don't, they might cancel all 3 orders or pick a random order that is shipping earlier..

Edit: just cancelled my third order, it had a past may 13 delivery and I didn't really NEED it. However, my second order was a birthday present for my dad so didn't want to take a risk and have it cancelled.

I did. And yes if you have three one or all of them may be cancelled.

It's also odd that people and one in particular were hired for millions of $$ to head up what should be an enviable retail experience. Instead we were left with murky rules, inconsistent customer experiences and glaring omissions in logic such as this, that one would not expect of people supposedly qualified to command multi-million dollar salaries. It is shocking that it's the little things that are adding up to customer anxiety and dissatisfaction.

This! 1000x this! The fact I have to hang out on Macrumors (err, no offense...love it here) to find out the best way to navigate the order process and *try* to determine the best watch/fit for us is, well, insane. Grump.
Did anyone at Apple actually think through how early adopters would react? Do they even care?

Was it even possible to order more than one watch per order with the mobile app right after midnight? When I selected one it went straight to payment so I did two separate orders but same card and same Apple ID.

Nope it wasn't possible. So had none of us seen this thread we'd be none the wiser

only two per household?

Ok just been on the phone again just now about mine that was cancelled yesterday.

The rep told me that my case was with order management and the reinstatement can take up to 48 business hours so it should be done by Tuesday next week. He said they are going to be cancelling orders if it looks like people are buying them to sell on for a profit, however that is deduced. Seeing as I had only ordered two this shouldn't be the case with me.

Thanks, I was wondering if I missed something. Strange you could order two on one order through the website but not the app.

It was a pain, I'd have checked out in the first minute or so if they had allowed movement from favourites to check out easier. Instead I had to check out one by one.

I've cancelled the third, I was one of those who preorder both sizes and chose 38 over 42 at try on appointment. I don't think those who do that are a bigger problem than scalpers, as most of us are intending to return then make a profit. Mine was going to go to my friend who had problems ordering at the same time as me. Selling is often a flipping hassle. I can't be bothered. But I also don't fancy risking a random watch getting cancelled , hubby would be fuming lol

what a shambles, they have a push for orders to move to online, and allow cusotmers to order the amount they wanted, to cancel random orders without asking the customer which model they would like to keep. Sorry that is an aweful experience. They should have clearly stated what the limits were and enforced them in the ordering process. Feel sorry for people ordering for families .

Thanks, Bunnicula. We hope that because she gets checked regularly since this is her second run with breast cancer that they got this early like they did last time.

By the way Bunnicula I went back to SS and gave up on Sport partly because of your influence. In a good way. The TL/DR story of how my husband and I made our orders last night was pretty comical with us being two sleepy grumpy people and me undecided to the last few seconds!

Wow, I can't believe what I'm reading. It doesn't sound like this is too widespread yet. I hope it stays that way. It's terrible that it's happened at all.

Last night when we placed our first 2 orders the web site didn't say anything about limits. Hubby says he was sure about that. He just noted it was simply not even processing orders that had only 2 phones at a time so he did them separately. Our first two orders were over by 3:10 a.m. at the latest. And he was at work all day and half the night actually working so he didn't hear a blasted declaration from Tim Cook about limits. Really it should have been plastered all over the site from the very first.

The third order was placed around 3:30. That was my husband's. It took him awhile to get over being ticked off that the dates were pushed back so far and so fast on the space Grey sport he was originally trying to order. (I did warn him it would be the most popular but he was generous in getting his sis and wife taken care of first).

Our only emails so far say that our orders are "processing" which reminds me of our AT&T fiasco all over again. If they are canceling on people this evening and tomorrow that is so far out of line it defies all bounds of reasonableness. (I hope that's a word--autocorrect has given up on me by now if it is not a real word). Not that they haven't already crossed it with the way some of you folks have been treated.

Our ordering of the IPhone 6 plus at launch was another debacle where we thought we had secured our orders only to find we and all other AT&T customers who ordered with us were thrown willy nilly into a pile rather than an orderly queue. But that was on AT&T.

This is all Apple and on a brand new type of product. They're not some new upstart. I expected better of them.

You went SS? Cool. Which one did you choose?

I really hope none of your orders get cancelled. It sounds like you may be safer with three separate orders, but you never know. Fingers crossed!

I do agree re: making the 2-watch limit known. We would've been in the same boat as you if one of the kids had decided to preorder a watch. :(

Best wishes to your mom. Catching that stuff early is key.

Exactly!

I did everything by the book, according to their suggestions.

I favourited the ones I wanted. I setup my cards, addresses etc. in advance of the store going down, and I was there with devices ready at 8:01

So first of all we play the apple store availability lottery. None of my devices would let me in even whilst others were ordering :( It just seems to be random which particular browsing session lets us in at a particular time. So four minutes later I was still refreshing. By the time I got in on my ipad (iphone, desktop still saying store down), the black SS I had wanted was at "4-6 weeks" and the one for my wife was saying "24-30" or something.

So I go to favourites thinking I'll be able to click "express checkout" and buy them all in one easy go? or failing that move them both to basket... but NO! had to do each individually and go through all the address <next> card <next> etc for each one. So by the time I'd done the black SS it was back at JUNE :( and the other one ended up 4-6 weeks.

Anyway, I ended up ordering another one for my sister which itself had a 4-6 weeks but then I'm told about some weird limit and that any/all could be cancelled because I've ordered too many.

I know the launch worked well for some people, and I know it's very much a first world problem (thoughts are with grumpymom and family), but I do think this kind of stuff lets Apple down in their key audience.

As I've said before, last Christmas a lot of stores had website queue management systems in place. When you went to their site, if there was enough capacity, you were let straight in. If not, you were queued with your place in the queue clearly displayed and continuously updated. When your position was reached, you were let in and could order. Far better than having to play the apple store lottery IMHO.

I've cancelled my third order, I'm just not willing to take the chance on them being cancelled. Although of course, now I've read some people with only two have had one cancelled so I'm back to worrying.

I did. Went to the Apple Store and decided on the 42mm. Cancelled the 38mm. Kept my wife's 38mm. This could have been avoided by letting us try the watches on before the online order began!

I ordered one for each member of my family, 4.
Like many of you, I have been with Apple Products for 20+ years.
BUT, I can promise I will throw every piece of Apple product in the trash if my order gets canceled. At no place during my ordering process did it limit me, so if there was a limit, there should have been a warning.

I realize that has zero effect on Apple as a company, but as a businessman, I could never do that to any customer, without a clear warning up front.

Not much new to add but fwiw.

Ordered three each in separate orders but with same appleid and cc. Decided to call and inquire.

She confirmed what we all know. It's two per person. She said the two per household is so they can weed out people who try and order under diff appleids. She admitted the policy is flawed cause it should allow say a wife and husband to order two each for whatever reasons.

When she looked up all three of my orders, two looked good. The other was in a status called "under review". This is different than "scheduled to be cancelled". Scheduled to be cancelled also has a cancel date attached to it. It could be one day or 1 week away. She was not sure how they determined but that is what their screens would show.

She said there is a system that flags potential "illegal orders". These are then sent to the account teams for review. They typically look at email addresses. From there they look at financial and shipping info. She offered to change my one order to a diff email to see if it may make it through but said they do enforce the policy strictly.

I had her do that so my other two would be safe. The one under review I could live without as it was going to be a gift.

I don't think, unless you get a dick of a rep, they have any real interest in screwing you so calling to get an update on those orders is worthwhile so you can see if one you want has entered the review process.

Complete crap on Apples part. The fact zero of the popular watches were available 2 minutes after the ordering process started speaks of how Tim Cook is so different than Steve. The first iPhone and first iPad had zero supply issues in the first day. Now Tim Cook is canceling orders???

Welcome to society nowadays...always entitled to something.

The person I was righting to is "entitled" to the product that he ordered and paid for but since Apple wants to play games this individual should be compensated for his troubles.

Gutted, but also cancelled my SS Sports band. Going to keep SS Milanese and SS Space Black. Just cannot risk losing my entire order for a watch that I can pick up in May...

Thanks, this is helpful. I'm slightly afraid to call about my two orders (had three), but armed with this knowledge I might give it a shot.
