right decision made, going to DSM first thing and getting an appt! hope i get a 42mm SG on sat! anyone know if the prices are the same?

And that's the only way you can get an appointment, go there at 10:45 , line up or else be prepared to be disappointed. Oh and you cannot ask them about stock either, that information is only divulged for those with an appointment - so there is the risk you are completely wasting your time.
Much prefer the Selfridges approach , thing is they only have 38mm.

Oh and so much for the one watch policy. On a previous visit there I saw some woman purchase TWO editions and a sports.
Seems you can do what you want if you are of the correct social class.

God forbid that us mere plebs might want to turn up on their doorstep wanting to give them our hard earned money. I might have gotten this one wrong but I thought that the value of the pound out of my pocket had the same value as that out of some apparently "rich" persons pocket.

If they didn't want large numbers of people shopping there they shouldn't have chosen to stock the watch.

They certainly got more exposure...and as I said, what they are doing works. In fact I like it, keeps out the returning scalpers. Apple Store however? Good luck waking up 5am in the morning to get in front of the queue.

Barge in front?! The store was EMPTY! The staff were doing absolutely nothing.

You are still technically barging in front, regardless no one being there. Stay there for 10 minutes and you'll see another customer who booked an appointment to collect the watch. There is a queue, but they set it up that you don't have to stand outside in front of the store.

I was there for 20 mins 'bargaining' with the staff. No one showed up. I'm serious.
This has nothing to do with scalpers , this is elitism.
If it were about scalpers you could implement a system where a watch can only be reserved by a person with a valid Apple ID.

If the queuing system is fair then why did they refuse to book me an appointment there and then?

The entire launch is a mess - yes I already have a space grey watch, but still realise that apple screwed up with this, or more concerningly this is going to be the market they target in future. Can you imagine an iPhone launch like this?!

I hate elitism. I'm surprised 'Mr I'm all for equality' Tim Cook sanctioned this. Only supports equality when it meets his own agenda.

Either the person didn't show up in the end or is running late. Either way, that's his/her time slot, not yours.

If it were about scalpels you could implement a system where a watch can only be reserved by a person with a valid Apple ID.

That wouldn't work as people can make fake Apple IDs. And DSM doesn't have that kind of access to check your Apple ID details anyway.

Of course they do - it's Apple staff who work at the watch section of DSM
As for fake IDs.. Who cares, someone could just as easily get a band of friends to book separate appointments. Don't scalpers operate in large groups?

If you think this system is about preventing scalpers to stick up for the 'common man' then you are mistaken, this is about elitism, pure and simple.

Uhhh no. These people are only trained on how to use the Apple Watch, nothing else. They are not Genius staff.

Well that "band" of scalpers must have each a valid photo ID, a credit/debit card matching the photo ID's owner (won't accept cash) and can only buy 1 watch from them ever. You can't avoid scalpers because you don't know which one is a scalper or not, but they cannot return to DSM to buy another afterwards. I mean, how do THEY know you aren't a scalper yourself?

At the end of the day, there is a queue you can't see. What you tried to do, is barging in. Or like taking something that was reserved for someone else. You have a chance to book for Saturday tomorrow, be there early and you'll get an early appointment for Saturday.

I see no problem on what DSM are doing. They hate people queuing outside and the same people returning to scalp.

Again - I have problems with the term 'barging in' when the store was empty
Furthermore they refused to book me an appointment , and I had the required photo ID on me.
Be there early for the privilege of booking for Saturday? No thanks. I have work.

If this is the direction apple are going in then forget it. I'll just remain happy with my SG watch and never deal with that pretentious boutique again.

Oh and I asked the staff, they are employed by apple. They said that repeatedly and confirmed that the appointment only rule was imposed by DSM, whom they do not directly work for

Corrected for truth

im torn! i could just drive to barnet leave car in work and get the tube (30 mins) but are they going to allow me to book an appt? talking about 2, 3 hour round trips by the time i would get the watch and they might not have stock on the one i want :S is it worth it reli!

Well okay. How about this. You tried to sit on a reserved seat that isn't yours.

Furthermore they refused to book me an appointment , and I had the required photo ID on me.

Because you can only book one day in advance and Thursday (yesterday) and Friday slots were already taken. So that's why they refused and ask you to come tomorrow morning.

Then go on a day when you DON'T have work. Wake up early on Saturday so you can get a Sunday appointment.

yes they WERE employed by Apple. But that doesn't mean they have access to our Apple ID accounts. There are many positions in the Apple team. They were only trained to teach us how to work the watch. Nothing else.

It's a gamble. Because of first of all, to have any good solid chance of an early appointment you need to get to DSM before they open (11am).

Then you have to book an appointment for the following day praying that the watch you want is still in stock.

So you are making two long trips to DSM in a space of two days.

If they don't have the watch you want, you can book again for the following day but no guarantees of your watch in stock. This whole thing is a gamble, but if you're lucky you'll be smiling.

Moved to preparing :D

Yes finally!!! Congrats dude!

Right I need a volunteer to take over the spreadsheet for me :)

Who's up to the task. I'm away this week so won't be able to do much!

Send me a pm of your gmail email and I will see who fits best/ is first!

I can't as will also be away but if you feel like one last edit-mines arriving today thx.

I've just been charged and P4D overnight for a SSWSB With a July delivery. I ordered this to see if it came before the Milanese loom or link I ordered with June deliveries.
I haven't put it on the spreadsheet as I expected to cancel it when one of the June orders arrived.
I will now put it in the spreadsheet. Bussing. #

FYI. Ordered a 42mm ss WSB on 11/5, delivery was due in July. It has just changed to PFD this morning.
A hold has been put on my CC. So I have canceled the 42 ss Milanese loop that I ordered on the 18/4 and was due in June.
So one for somebody else.

.

So you're honestly happy with the DSM 'arrangement' and would like it for something like , say, the iPhone launch. Crazy.

We'll have to agree to disagree with this one. Of course customers who have actually booked an appointment should take priority , however if the store is empty - serve whoever shows up! Their money is just as good as anyone else!
Im guessing the reason why it was empty was that no one who booked bothered with a 'try-on' and simply walked in and purchased their watches very quickly.

The entire buying experience for this product has been blighted with elitism, discrimination and pretentiousness. Great qualities Mr Cook!
This is Angela whatsherfaces fault as this didn't used to be the apple way.

Fits right in with a new Tory government!

Out for delivery. What a journey!! I'm not going to be in so hoping UPS will take it to the access point down the road. Anyone found that Apple will let them do this?

really we are bringing the government into this now?! have a day off! its blatent pushing in! if you bought a watch and that was the last one of that model, the person who comes in for the next appt cannot buy it! they have queued up the day before and waited paitently for 24 hours. yet its fair for you to walk in expecting to buy one straight off! you should of knew the process before you walked in its on their website! If you dont like the process dont go in! its the same as complaining your june / july order has not been despatched yet!

Well this is bizarre. Got the following email from Apple an hour and a half ago:

Thank you for your recent order with the Apple Online Store. We are following up on our previous email.

We were unable to obtain an authorisation for this order and as result we have cancelled it.

To place a new order or for information about alternative payment methods, visit the Apple Online Store or call 0800 048 0408.

Sincerely,
The Apple Online Store

Only they have obtained authorisation, my order is on preparing for dispatch (and remains so) and there's no indication it's been cancelled at all

Very odd

Right, my 42mm SG BSB is out for delivery. I've got a few questions:

- What time do UPS start deliveries?
- Will they contact me by phone prior to delivery?
- If no one's in will they leave the parcel at a local access point?

Lol you're the guy planning a trip to London to go to DSM aren't you? Get ready to experience the pretentiousness first hand then. Then you will understand when your trip is most likely wasted and you'll have to make it again.

And don't give me the 'the process is on their website' - they seem to change this process every day! When I got my space grey watch I was required to call a phone number and make an appointment.

Yes it's fair that I should have been served because the store was EMPTY. I cannot stress that enough.

As for buying online.. For some yes they are still waiting, but you think it's fair this prissy pretentious boutique gets stock almost daily while online customers get deprioritised?!

Like I said - I said fine, book me an appointment then - and they refused to do so.
I have a celebrity friend (won't say names) and I almost feel like popping down there with him just to see the change in attitude from the DSM staff lol!

Still on P4D , I got charged last night approx 20:30

42mm, Sports, WSB, Ordered 30/4

I wonder if they will do Sat deliveries now? someone mentioned a few pages back something about Apple changing the deliveries to a "better" service
