Couldn't wait for notebookcheck.net to do a full temperature review on the i5/i7 models and just went with fully loaded i7/16GB/512GB.

Never got a top spec Mac before!

Very excited.

Well.. bad news.. I only got to use my Macbook for a few days until it died.. I plugged my Macbook to my Panasonic TV via the HDMI adapter. After using it for a while on the TV and unplugging it I got crazy artifacts. Upon rebooting the thing I didn't get any sign of life out of the Macbook. The screen just stays black. So I brought my Macbook to the Apple Store yesterday and they we're clueless as well. Got my money back and I'm ordering a new one. Another 2 weeks delivery time..

Damn, thats not good. Did you try a SMC and PRAM reset?
Yeah I tried that. Didn't help. They tried various things in the Apple Store as well, they couldn't fix it either. Luckely I was still within my 14-day return period, so I got my money back. A new one is on the way.

Just received my new 2017 MacBook. I've had a 2016 MacBook for the past 14 months or so.

This thing runs very hot relative to the last model. Gets hotter with use. Just using it for basic Office and browser, not running any face melting graphics.

Anyone else experiencing same?

Had this same thing on my 12" Macbook on the first day I bought it, without plugging it into anything (besides the wall). On reboot, would continually cycle through artifacts or be entirely black/unresponsive. Was going to exchange for another - at the store, a guy who had just bought his had the identical issue. Took it as a sign and went back to my 15". This was the 2016 model.

Which model?

Was debating between the MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook 12. Finally caved in a bought the MacBook 12 Space Gray (m3). This is exactly the same MacBook 12 which I bought in 2015. So far, I am loving the new experience of using this unit. The keyboard is more clickety but I am loving it just as much as version 1.

Exactly what I was afraid of...but is it also not performing badly? There seems to be some models with issues which overheats and performs really badly.

Just picked up a 2017 rMB last Thursday, replacing 2011 MB Air.
It's running pretty hot with just simple Safari browsing (3 tabs open), mail and messages.
Battery life is sporadic as well. 31% left but activity monitor says 2 hours remaining, but at 36% it showed 1 hour left.

i5/512/8

Not sure if I sure return within my 14 days. Other than that, I love it!

Ditto, same issue. Can't use it on my lap, very uncomfortable because it's so hot.

I'm not seeing any performance issues other than heat.

Just got my new Macbook (m3/8GB/256GB). Using it for two hours now. Installing apps, having a few tabs open in Safari. No heat at all. Very happy so far.

My trusty good old MacBook Air 2012 looks so incredible ugly next to this device.

Fingers crossed it settles down after a few days...

I am OK using my 2017 m3 on my lap. It does get too warm decoding 2160p VP9 in software, but luckily there is no real reason to do that. The screen's native resolution is 1440p, and you get YouTube to stream h.264. That is decoded in hardware and thus doesn't require much CPU usage, so the laptop doesn't get very warm in that context.

Tizzypink and Reallybigfeet did it get any better after indexing and stuff?

Judging by xsmett's experience, the m3 might be the cooler option?

Well damn... so i was going to get the i5 / 512gb but reading the reports on how it seems to be overheating i am tempted to go for the m3, but apple does not have a 512 ssd option with the m3... dammit!

I need notebookcheck to review this thing... the way things are going i am seeing myself getting the 2016 macbook instead.

Yep - I am worried now too. My i5/16/512 is on its way to me now...
But surely +0.1GHz base and +0.2GHz at boost cannot be enough to produce significantly more heat. I mean the i5 is identical apart from 1.2GHz (3.0GHz) vs 1.3GHZ (3.2GHz)... or am I misunderstanding things??

I decided to order Macbook i5/16gb/512gb Rose Gold

ı was using 2016 m5 model, hope see any difference

also is there any difference about screen quality?

Omg so ı paid this price only for ram difference and colour difference :S
ı paid 2228 euro. Turkey price

I was using 2016 m5 gold now rose gold finally

The differences are the Gen 2 keyboard , Ram if you choose 16Gb , Kaby Lake update , to be honest if you already had a 2016 model I'd of waited for a coffeelake/cannonlake update as the 2017 kaby update isn't enough of a update over the 2016.
