Hey Ankit congrats on your new Macbook. Can you say anything about heat and battery? Does the i5 get warm on your legs?
I didn't notice any heat issues at all...the longest I was on it for was only an hour or so though :/

The bottom was warm, but nothing out of the norm...palm rest/trackpad had no noticeable heat either....id be happy to run any heat test that are free...just lmk
[doublepost=1497544184][/doublepost]Also...maybe the keyboard issue is overblown or the 2nd gen is really that much of a step up...but coming from an older MBP to this, I was able to get acclimated within 5-10 mins and was able to type fine.

So sorry for the late reply! I have been too busy playing with this absolute BEAUTY since yesterday! I honestly cannot believe how fast my MB is! Again, coming from a MBP 2011, I guess it is all relative but I will tell you these scores do not do it justice!

I have mine on a lap desk but I did experience some warmth while putting in directly on my legs. I will be getting the rain design ilap soon so it will be a better setup. I am in a wheelchair so my MB is literally on my lap most of the time. lol

I am absolutely loving this keyboard-I guess there is some negativity but coming from someone who has used her ipad mini for typing for more than a year, this is a dream! lol

I just got my pickup message from the store, very excited to fire this puppy up.... I'm coming from a 2009 MBP with an HDD so I'm sure the speed difference is going to be very noticeable for me. Unfortunately I have a wedding to attend tomorrow and will be travelling all day so it will have to wait until Sunday.

I just got my maxed out macbook however it's painfully slow. I'm not sure if i'm missing something here. Anything I do, it's a long beachball pause. Launching apps, installing stuff.. I was installing skype on there and wanted to launch app store at the same time and literally waited 30 seconds for it to load while staring at a beach ball. Launching spotlight search (command + space) is at least a 5 second wait. How can anyone do any work on this laptop? It should be used in the bathroom to read couple emails while taking care of business which is where mine is going to end up with this speed.

Doesn't sound right at all, take it to Apple, my i5/8/512 is butter smooth for most all tasks. It may be indexing the HD and mail, which does take some time, but should not slow it down too much.

That could be it. I'll let it idle til tomorrow and see if it's any better.

Got the Silver i5/16/256 last Thursday. Absolutely love it.

It's beautiful machine overall and very fast. Haven't run any benchmarks yet, but just using it is a dream. I'm used to managing the amount of apps/tabs I have open all the time, to avoid slow-downs, but none of that is necessary anymore. Everything I use it for is instant and smooth so far.

The screen is amazing. My first retina Mac, and I didn't realise how you notice it with so many little details. Watching movies is a great experience as well, especially combined with the great speakers. I wasn't too impressed with the 2016 13" MBP speakers, but these things really surprise me.

It's exactly what I was looking for.

One downside though: I can't stand using my 13" MacBook Air anymore, it seems like some archaic piece of machinery from another era.

Sounds really good. Im coming from a MacBook Air 13 too. Receiving my Macbook 12 on tuesday. Cant wait.

I ordered ur configuration, but i changed my mind and i go with the base model now. Benchmarks are even good with that one and i think as soon as Apple decide to spend the macbook a second usb-c port and touch id i will update again anyway. Have fun with ur new "toy".

I am just confuse about buy 12 inch Macbook i5 or new macbook pro touch bar. cuz they have almost same price. but when u wanna sell here ppls doesnt look 12 inch macbook as pro so hard to sell.
but problem for me macbook pros has no colour. ı love rosegold. hard to make desicion any suggestion?

a) it's pink pink and pink again, nothing rosy or golden bout it :p

b) in oder for the i5 to have the same price you'd need to double the RAM onto of already having twice the SSD compared to the base touchbar MBp

c) what is more important ? A pink superlight laptop with twice the storage and maybe twice the RAM or a not so light one with a gimmick somewhat better screen and more raw CPU power ?

by the way screen quality is important for me which one is best quality?

The screen in the MBp is supposed to be better (and it's 1" bigger). If you got any store selling Macs near you, you might want to check them out in person.

Without knowing what you are planning to do with it it's kinda hard to recommend anything, you might want to start with what was wrong with your 2016 rMB and what specs it had (besides from it being sh###y brown).

If it's really just social media, the base model rMB will do just fine, or even an iPad(Pro) with a keyboard case.

You might also have a look at the MBp without touchbar, same screen and similar power as the ones with it while having a price tag closer to the rMB even after upgrading storage (and RAM).

Did you do a clean install or brought up the backup from a previous mac?
It was a clean install. However, after letting it do its thing for 24 hours it's now back to normal. It's a lot faster than I expected it to be. I would say this was an awesome purchase.

At first I went with the spacegrey colour but then canceled my order and went for the silver one. It seems that the spacegrey colour might chip off after a while of use (see attachment).
I checked out the space grey 2016 in-store. It was noticeably chipped. Meanwhile my 2009 silver MacBook Pro still looks almost brand new, even though there are some light scratches.

So, I ordered the 2017 m3 / 256 GB / 16 GB RAM in silver. It arrives tomorrow.

BTW, what is the best protective always-on case for the MB? I probably won't get one though, as I generally just put it in a soft case / sleeve for transport, and run it bareback when not being transported.

I was going to wait for this one especially cause of the nice little kaby lake bump and the second gen butterfly keyboard but I sprang for the 2016 model purely based on price in Canada

Got mine from an inventory clear out for 913$ whereas the 2017 model is 1730$ (!!) in Canada.

2017 model will be nicer though! That second gen keyboard !
I considered that IBM one, but they're basically used machines. Most were in good condition but many weren't. Plus I just couldn't get over the fact it was Skylake and with the same keyboard. I'm glad I waited. I knew I was going to get Kaby Lake, but added bonuses are HDCP 2.2, new keyboard, and way faster performance.

If you don't know, then you don't need it. Save the cash!
Depends on how long you plan on keeping it. In my experience, RAM usage doubles every maybe 4-5 years. People these days say 8 GB is the sweet spot for light to moderate usage, which may mean that in 5 years, 16 GB will be the sweet spot.

I can tell you that right now on my iMac I only have Chrome open (no other tabs) with Activity Monitor and iTunes, and I'm already at 6 GB. No productivity apps open at all. So, it wouldn't take much to push me over 8 GB.

Ive finally had time to play with my 2017 i5/8Gb/512Gb MacBook and I absolutely love this thing, almost regret not buying this thing when it first came out in 2015 lol

being semi new to Mac I love MacOS compared to Windows 10, really considering selling my Gaming PC now considering I do must my gaming on consoles these days.

Media Consumption, Web Browsing, Handoff, Etc this Machine is Awesome, can't wait to try and push this thing with some Starcraft 2 or the upcoming Starcraft Remastered.

Can't wait for a better selection of usb-c monitors come out and even more excited for thunderbolt 3 and External gpus to take off on Mac would make this little machine the perfect notebook ever made! lol
Uh, there is no Thunderbolt support. And you don't need USB-C monitors. You can just run any HDMI or DisplayPort monitor, if you have the right adapter.

As for the 2015, I had been calling for that form factor for just about forever. Then it came out and I really disliked it, because of that keyboard and because it felt a tad sluggish.

I know it doesn't need a usb-c monitor and can use adaptors, but id rather a one wire for a much cleaner setup, and my dell U2913WM is due for a nice 4k monitor when I find the right one to buy. The upcoming Dell U3818DW looks cool but I don't know if I want to stay with 21:9 or go back to 16:9.

My main point is your MacBook does NOT support Thunderbolt in any way, shape, or form. It is strictly USB.

That's fair reasoning, but not for me. The MB I received was absolutely mint, packaged identical to apple refurb (right down to being sealed) and had 1 battery cycle. If you've ever purchased a refurb product from the Apple Store, it was exactly like that. Indistinguishable from a new one Cosmetically, indistinguishable from one new from the Apple Store (box art aside).

I couldn't justify spending 1730$ plus tax (almost 2000$ in my province for the base model!!) Vs 913$ with tax.....The 2017 model for me is a minor and marginal upgrade for my use and spec model, and not worth the additional grand it would have cost me.

Nice. You were very lucky. Just about nobody in that RFD thread got a machine with just 1 cycle.

Lots a people with few cycles but just 1 is very rare for an IBM "refurb". It sounds like you may have gotten a surplus unused one. Meanwhile, some people there got ones with visible wear, and many others got machines with some unknown goop on the charger cable. Did anyone figure out what that goop was?

Mine did that for the first 12 hours - apparently while icloud syncing, dropbox syncing, installing office, and updates all at once. Now its nice and fast - no more beachballs.
