reboot ?

after 10.4.1 I rebooted my g4 - and its going on 15 minutes now and its still on the initial white screen/grey Apple logo. No crossed-out logo at all... I don't know whats going on. I have restarted the machine a few times - this time I'll let it go. I hope it actually restarts as I type this on my wife's iBook.

This sucks.

It's too late, I just finished doing my essay for tomrrow. I hope they fixed the problem with MS Office 2004. It keeps crashing like every hour. I wouldve been having the Ellen Feiss situation if I haven't save as my essay to the second hard disk like every 10 mins.

Same here, except after i restarted while it was hung it rebooted o kand says 10.4.1, so i hope nothing got messed up in that.

What happened to me was i rebooted, it stuck on the screen you described, and all the fans went full blast and it stayed there. Funny cause i have a brand new iMac so I don't have anything fancy running.

Installed the update via software update, no problems to report. 10.4 has been working flawlessly for me. The only thing I noticed about 10.4.1 was that iScroll now works again on my iBook!

Is this an update of an OS or an Application?

No problems here. I do have the weird non-functional generic alias called Library in my Network, though.
Run "sudo rm /Network/Library" from Terminal. I had it to. It's a non-existent automount.

Tiger fubar (not quite but come on)

Tiger is a mess. For all those who are saying what are you affraid of - I'm not affraid, just PO'd that stuff DOESN'T "just work" anymore. Apple has made some mistakes in the past 10.2.6, 10.3.9 on the server side but I have not heard as many problems being reported as with Tiger. Since Tiger is supposed to be a "finished" product, this really surprises me. Why are there probelms with Adobe programs? Why are there still SMB problems? Why didn't they test MS Office (both word and entourage probems) more? The list goes on and on. I DO expect more from Apple. I haven't had any major problems with updates through 10.3.8. I have avoided 10.3.9 due to the many networking problems (which I use heavily). I had hoped Tiger would take care of this and be a nice upgrade. Sad to say, even after 10.4.1 I will wait before I upgrade.

From all that I have read it sounds like Tiger tends to run just fine on new machines. It is the upgrades on exisiting machines that tends to run in to problems. Of course, the one constant is many of the third party software (again Adobe and Office) have problems no matter how new or old. I would think this sort of testing would be more important than launching too early.

Just finished updating, expose still isn't as smooth as it was in Panther. The MLB Gameday still does not work.

Um... well although I "somewhat" agree with you, does anyone remember the
10.2.6 (or was it 10.2.8? ) debacle where Apple had to pull the update for a few days... Oh, and the 10.3.0 upgrade that screwed up Firewire drives.

Although I really do trust Apple to the core, I can't blame anyone for being cautious after these 2 screwups!

I remember that problem (I think it was with 10.2.8). I had one of those PowerMacs where the kext didn't work, and so my internet died! And with Mac OS 10.4.0, my D-Link 524 wouldn't work! If I had Tiger on, it killed the internet connection for all other computers, too. I found the fix by changing the computer's name to be just two letters long, and that fixed the problem. I also had a lot of other problems with trying to get my data transfered over, but that might be more of a hardware conflict or problem. But after a week of fighting my computer, I got it up and running. Tiger is more responsive than Jaguar was, at least it seems to start faster if anything! I'm still debating on the new appearance of Mail and the existence of Dashboard. Dashboard MAYBE could be useful to me, but we'll have to see.

hmm - boot stuck at apple logo.

i booted off the 10.4 dvd, repaired permissions, made sure boot disk was correct (mentioned 10.4.1 ) - still nothing on a reboot on a G4.

Im pretty cheesed at this point - I'll let it sit there a while longer - if nothing happens, I have nothing to do except go back and install 10.4 again.

Grrrr...

I run Weather and my Dashboard has never crashed. Sure it's Weather?

The weather widget crashed every time my Powerbook came out of sleep. With the update though, it hasn't crashed yet!

The update moved the balance of my sound output all the way to the right. Moved the slider back and now I'm back to high-quality 2.1 sound!

No other problems here.

Like I mentioned earlier, I did this but it got auto re-generated the next time I rebooted. Still don't know what it is supposed to be used for. Probably some feature that got <partially> pulled at the last minute.

Though this 'nit' is mostly innocuous, to me this kind of thing represents some sloppy work by Apple on this release. It makes me wonder why they chose to rush Tiger out in May instead of waiting till June/July, still able to meet their mid-2005 pre-announcement schedule. I'm guessing they wanted to get it out ahead of WWDC so that it doesn't distract from whatever they are going to announce then. Looking at it that way gives me some hope that the WWDC announcements will be a real treat.

try searching google images for a color bar, then open it in iPhoto and do 2 or 3 successive edits. Each time just do a slight crop or a slight retouch. After 3 or 4 you'll find that blue turns to purple and other colors get messed up. I really notice this on my digital pictures and it's starting to bug me. I hope they fix it soon, becuase I can't use iPhoto anymore because of this.

It seems to be a tiger/coreimage bug.

anyone else having problems with slow/no reboot after 10.4.1 is applied?

i simply cannot raise my box after this update.

1 hour sitting on the Apple logo screen and no loading graphic yet.

Its definitely a Tiger bug, but my iBook doesn't have CoreImage and it sure does happen. Also, 10.4.1 screwed my DiskUtil hard and I couldn't mount images. Had to boot to DVD and repair permissions. Even Single-user mode didn't work for repairing. Tiger has some great stuff, but Apple is being REALLY sloppy right now. Its disheartening to say the least.

Also, where the HELL is the Safari update? All this hubbub about Safari beating the Acid2 test and we don't get that code? Its probably something like 'quality-control' thats holding this up. Wouldn't THAT be ironic?

The background on the installer window should have a big grey X...they forgot to include the custom background file. i've noticed lots of little slips with tiger. for instance, every boot, it tells me my keyboard is not my "build-in" keyboard (for whatever reason, at boot, my mac thinks my Gyration mouse is a new keyboard).

sloppy.

Big Improvement on Power Mac G4 MDD

10.4 started out pretty impressively, but it really started to crawl compared to Panther after a few days on my Power Mac G4 MDD (Dual 1 GHz). I was eagerly awaiting 10.4.1, and I must say, it's made significant speed improvements on my Power Mac. No adverse effects so far. (But the sound volume bug still exists in Apple02Audio.kext)

I still have yet to be convinced that Tiger is worth the upgrade, especially after hearing all of the horror stories of crashing applications. I think at least I'll wait until 10.4.3, if I upgrade at all.

I am very satisfied with 10.3.9 at the moment. Being in its 10th incarnation (versus Tiger's 2nd) means that the OS has essentially been perfected. Why would I give that up to get a buggy young OS with more flashy features?

And by the way: what is this widgets obsession anyway? Apple is acting like this is the greatest new feature of Tiger. If that's true, then thanks, but I think I'll keep my reliable Panther and my $129.
