The widget manager is really nice. Should have been there at Tiger's launch.
I just realized that it was there today. It's very helpful to have, especially with the number of widgets available these days. Very, very nice.

This was looking good but my dock keeps acting up. Before it'd lock totally - no magnification etc. - but now things won't open up once hidden; I have to quit the app (namely Quicktime) totally then re-open the file.

Looks like we'll need a 10.4.3 sooner than hoped.

Everything is fine with mine 24 hours later or however long it has been for me, after having to do two hard restarts on my powerbook it started up normally and seems to be going well. One thing i will say, for some odd reason using AirTunes and iTunes no longer takes up an ungodly amount of RAM, under 10.4.1 it was taking up 70MB+ of RAM now it is taking less than 30MB. And when i was at school yesterday there was a new authentication to log into the wireless internet network.

I am happy

I just tried updating my mac mini and the software update crashes everytime I run it. Never had a problem before this. Anyone else with the same issue?

Haven't tried on mine yet, but I suggest downloading the standalone updater from Apple's site.

I did a clean install of 10.4.2 and still have the issue with the Grado Labs page and others. I havent identified a pattern with the unexpected quits but I imagine that issue is fairly common. Baffling.

Now that Webkit is open-sourced, it's very easy to log a bug about that. I must get around to it myself.

Since I upgraded I seemed to have lost all sound as far as some websites are concerned and on anything that needs WMP to play. Anybody else have this problem? Is there a way to fix it? Doesn't matter if I am using Safari or Firefox, I am still lacking sound on many website videos and on all WMP files.

If you haven't done so already, try using GarageBand or rebooting OS X - that should fix it. It's happened periodically to me since before the 10.4.2 update, if there's a way to prevent it I'd appreciate the info!

But I'm lucky to have had no major issues with Tiger and this update was no exception. :) Feels great to use again after visiting my parents, their computer is a perfect example of all the Windows XP criticisms found on this forum (and even my virus-free laptop is a pain in comparison, I didn't realize how much so till I returned).

Installed and impressed with new Widget manager and other tweaks like improved scrolling in Safari.

Still have a problem with Safari after a few hours use where it brings the system to a grinding halt .. quit and restart Safari and everything is ok again. Think I'll use Firefox for a while to see if it's any better.

Did you run a Repair Permissions?

I'm sure that we will have a thread about 10.4.3 speculations before long.

Not knowing what a Repair Permissions is I'll have to say no. And I apologise in advance if I've kicked up another 100 or so pages dedicated to speculating on a dot release

use disk utility in your utilities folder

No problem, it is bound to happen sooner or later. Speculation is fun. :D

Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Repair Permissions

For turning on Quartz2DExtreme by default i have used the Terminal-app with this command : sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver \Quartz2DExtremeEnabled -boolean YES

Anyone here at the forum with the same experience as me ?
OK, this flat-out works and works well, even on low-end Q2DE-capable hardware like mine. I put that line in Terminal, rebooted, and fired up Quartz Debug. It showed QE and Q2DE were both enabled by default, and then I maximized and minimized windows holding the shift key and saw "framerate" (for lack of a better term) doubled over plain QE.

TV Tracker widget

Is anyone's TV Tracker widget not working today? I downloaded the update the other day and it worked fine until now. It's just blank.

Mine is showing that there's nothing good on TV, but I guess that's not non-functional

Odd, now it works all of the sudden. Checked it as soon as I read your post. Must have been a fluke or something.

If you have more than one keyboard layout enabled, command-space is also used to switch between those. You can check this in the keyboard shortcuts section of the system preferences and change one or the other to avoid the conflict.

I am pretty sure that, although the key was set to both effects on my iBook at first, it defaulted to spotlight and not changing the input method. But you are correct. At some point, gladly, the bug I was having, that the computer would forget keyboard shortcut customizations on reboot, which was making this choice to have these both be the same even more irritating, was resolved.

On my first reboot with 10.4.2, I am still seeing changes to the dock get reset -- if I added or removed an item and then rebooted, the dock went back to its original condition. Since this was the reboot involved in updating to 10.4.2, I'm willing to write it off. Anyone still see this behavior in Tiger?

Also, does anyone who has an iBook still experience that a BT mouse can wake up the computer when it is closed (the iBook is not supposed to be able to be awake when it is closed)? My last KP resulted from my iBook trying to wake up closed because I clicked on the mouse while trying to turn it off and put it in my backpack. It happens intermittently though -- at least sometimes, the mouse will not wake up the computer in this configuration, as it should not.

EDIT: Ugh...I walked home and got another KP on wake-up that was traced to the iokit.... The only version of Panther on which this ever happened was that one bad-seed dot release... 10.3.8 or .7 I think? This is really getting frustrating. Even though I did a relatively clean install, I think I need to think seriously about reformatting and reinstalling.... :(

you 'should' need to update it for 10.4.2, mine had a click me button.

Are you running a newer build of WebKit? I found a reproducible bug of SU crashing if a non-official WebKit build is running. By non-official I mean a download source and complied by yourself.

I am having problems downloading it for some reason. It keeps telling me to open it up with another application (pkg).

My software update also crashes everytime I try and use it.

I've tried disk repair permission and no avail.

Anybody help?

:(
