Will not install if an application using javascript is running(Aquisition). Either by SUpdate or SAI. Also SAI is at 43 mb, SUpdate is 23 mb what gives?

Do you mean Java?

Acquisition is a Java application, not javascript.

I have Widget Manager installed. I assume I should uninstall it prior to updating. How does one uninstall a preference pane?

10.4.2 has killed my Dashboard

help!

now all my widgets are gone from the dashboard and nothing happens when i click on the widget manager.

I have the same problem. Once I hit F12 I could see widget start to appear and then "boom" they are gone. If I try to add them I get the ripple effect but widgets disapper. I have checked the activity Monitor and there is no widgets running.

I'm OK

Don't you nut jobs read the Apple page about the fixes in the update before you download it??

Works fine for me but it made me go through the set up assistant again when my machine rebooted. Don't know why because no other update has done that before....

Dashboard widgets still seem to be hogging enormous amounts of memory... I've got five open and they take between them over 100MB of Ram.. how is it that a simple weather widget needs more RAM than Excel???

Weather Widget Wierdness

Did anyones else's weather widget reset to Miami and "show highs and lows" get unticked?

You don't need to uninstall it. Just re-enable any widgets (particularly Apple ones) that you might have disabled. Otherwise you'll find yourself playing mix and match between the contents of the new Apple widget and the old disabled one to get them to work.

EVERYTHING!

Any programs in particular running slow or the whole system?

I have an iMac G5 and it is running ok so far...<knock on wood>
Thanks for the reply but unfortunately, everything is running slow. I have tried restarting several times. Nothing works. When I click an App down on the dock, it just sits their and bounces and it's highlighted blue and I eventually have to force quit. Is their a way to restore the 10.4.2 installation. I am an idiot and emptied my trash can which contained the Recovery files. Thanks, Colby.

Dashboard is really Safari in disguise. Each open widget is basically a Web page, generally with lots of javascript and other candy running in it. The memory and CPU usage really shouldn't be a surprise.

Well at least you guys are up and running.

I rebooted, the "Starting Mac OS X" window flashed by real fast (progress bar only went maybe 1/4 of the way across), and then it closed. I'm staring at a blue background with only my mouse cursor to amuse me.

Repairing permissions didn't help. Volume checks out fine. Won't even boot in single user mode for some reason.

Looks like I'll be reinstalling tonight...

Great update!

So far, everything is running fine on my Rev.A 1.8GHz 20'' iMac G5... The Widget Manager is really nice, even as an alternative widget launcher, as is the scrolling in Safari. And so far, one annoying glitch I had when Fast User Switching (the animated cube would display a screwed up image instead of the desktop in the face of the account I would be switching to) is solved. Now, let's just see if my weird Dock bugs are gone too... If you wanna see what they look like copy this address to your address bar, since Angelfire seems to be blocking external links

Downloading now, here's hoping for an experience at least 25% better than 10.4.1, which will rank down there with 10.3.2 as my worst OS X experience ever.

I had a really fun day with the original 10.2.8...

Mail still doesn't hide at login, if you have it set to hide and startup as a login item.
Um yeah... i noticed that the second I installed Tiger... and I have yet to come up with a fix for it, other than writing an apple script (which I can send you if you like)
What it does, is run the script which launces and closes the front window for mail. That way it is out of the way. (and you have tiger launch the script at startup rather than mail)

Remote Desktop speed has improved

I just upgraded to 10.4.2 and Remote Desktop seems to be faster.

I use my PB wirelessly to remote access my iMac. It is much more useable now.

I'll have to check out the SMB/Windows networking improvements tomorrow when I get into the office.

Edit: Outlook Web Access if still broken in Safari!

great day indeed! i can't wait to get home and check this out. i hope it will resolve some of my problems.

i have been having a screen saver problem. my mouse arrow will stay displayed after the screen saver kicks in.

usb port on the front of my G5 causes problems when i try to hook up my ipod. all kinds of disk errors, but if i switch it to another usb port, no problems. (this worked fine in 10.3.9)

hoo haa, can't wait to get home.

the same thing is happening to me .... i'm running on a 1.25 mac mini .... grrr ... i'll try restarting again .... thank god for my 2nd computer ....

Works perfect on my iBook G3. I have installed every OS X update the day it came out since 10.2.6 and have never had one issue with anything :p

The updated safari is great, about the same speed as the CVS version I compiled a few weeks ago.

guess what.. the iphoto bug is still there.. destroys pics still. Fantastic. The biggest bug in the lot and it's still alive.

Flash MX 2004 is still crashing on launch too. Bravo ya dumbasses.

I agree. It's unbelievable that iPhoto has been rendered entirely useless in Tiger, and they _still_ haven't fixed it. Deny deny deny, Apple is becoming incredibly sloppy.

craaaap , transparent dock doesnt work anymore .. :p . anyone know of any apps that will make the dock transparent ?

other than that , haha , SOLID RELEASE ! safari seems much better already .

OH SHNAP.......
