Boot up time long? Really? Maybe its just because of my machine, but my power mac boots really quick in 10.4.3...

I'm not sure about 10.4.4, I've only booted once, and it was after installation so that always takes a little while.

I haven't had any of the problems listed so far. I have 10.4.4 on both my PB and my PM.

'pparently the long initial reboot is because caches are flushed and then Spotlight catalogues all the changes the updates have made. No sweat - only took a minute or so, I think I can live with that.

By the way, my updates (all three - iTunes, QT and 10.4.4) went on clean as a whistle; for those who didn't have the same exemplary user experience as me, I fully sympathise - I used to be a Windows admin :D

(Hey just kiddin' - save the flames for another day!)

That job is easy, just give it a good ol' restart.

Heh heh - yes indeed! Either that or just reinstall - don't bother troubleshootin' or anything sophisticated like that :D

EDIT: Oh and Spotlight is now reindexing all the NFS drives because they have moved. D'oh!!!

Wait. You got Spotlight to index an NFS drive? How?? After Tiger came out, I tried everything I possibly could to get this to happen, and nothing worked. System Preferences, mdimport, mdutil, nothing. Sometimes it went through the motions of indexing, but I was never able to search for anything.

This applies to SMB and AFP shares as well. Spotlight wouldn't touch anything that wasn't on the local machine. Has something changed?

about the bluetooth thing, after my initial restart, the icon disappeared from my menu bar. when i went into system preferences, the 'show bluetooth status in the menu bar' option was checked. so i unchecked it and then checked it back, and the icon reappeared. and since then i've had no other problems.

I had the exact same thing happen to me...

All good for me so far:

PB 17" 1.5 GHz
Repaired permissions, removed all haxies from my login items, installed the *combo* update, restarted, reinstalled the Front Row hack, repaired permissions, restarted.

Flip4Mac working fine (v2.0.1), as is Bluetooth.

Still on QT 7.03 though....

The Void
.................
Anyone hacked Front Row to work with pics outside of the iPhoto library yet? ;)

On my 15" PB, none of the problems you mentioned. I verified and repaired permissions right after I installed 10.4.4, you might want to do the same. :)

^^ Co-sign. ^^

No problems here... 12" PB 1.33... :D

It killed my Bluetooth too! Disappeared from the prefs as-well

Yup, me too! Seeming to be a fairly consistent problem...

<edit> I assume trying that fix would probably work if I had a bluetooth device -- I'll trust that it does.

everything (itunes, mail, etc) when i open them, run as if they have never been opened before, prompting me to setup accounts and such. ALL my accounts are gone from mail, along with email and contacts!
This Sucks major you know what!

i'm repairing permissions and restarting, we will see how goes it.

edit:
my dashboard preferences are gone, like moving the cursor to the top enables expose. GRRR. and my dock was moved back to the bottom!

i had this same problem a few weeks back. turns out i had accidentally moved my 'library' folder from 'macintosh hd' into my 'movies' folder. so none of my application prefs were reading. and os x wanted to rewrite them. fortunately spotlight saved the day.

dude, i'm so screwed!
i tried to replace the library file under my account with the in the hardrive folder, "Lake."
BAD IDEA! now EVERYTHING, i mean everything is jacked.
Every time i login the stupid apple welcome video plays!
is there anything that i can do?

Noticed any bugs on the new OS yet? I don't know about you guys, but on my PowerBook, I've found two so far. First is in Safari: Won't let me close any windows at all except when quitting. Second is in Finder in Column View: Finder quits then relaunches when I click on a file and the preview is about to appear. Anyone else get the same problems? Be cautious about loading the new OS.

No bugs here so far. In fact Safari no longer closes on its own, for no good reason...

DW won't boot from its CD

A friend in CA emailed that Disk Warrior 3.0.3 would not boot from its CD after the update of OS X. I tried it then, and sure enough DW won't start up. The CD will mount but not boot the machine. Anyone noticed this, or willing to give it a test?

PowerBook video didn't show-up

Remember that PowerMac bug that when you would awaken by opening the PowerBook, the system would awaken (i can hear noises from programs, reminders, and "can't-do-that" "boink" sounds). However, there is no video.

Only way to get it to come back up (that I could find) was a reboot by holding down the power button.

Well, it went away with, I believe 10.4.1 (not 100% sure about that) and this morning it came back. Grrrr. . . I have not had this problem for 5-6 months, and now it is back. I have lost so much work because of this.

Anyone else have this problem, or is there a fix?

Safari RSS feeds not showing in Bookmarks Bar

Not sure why. When there are updates the little number doesn't show up to the left any more. Repaired permissions, restarted, but it's still not working. Not that big of a deal, really. No other issues.

Widget Problems and Safari Issues

Has anyone else experienced problems with the ESPN widget?

On first load everything seemed fine the scores worked for College Basketball which I had selected. However when I checked on Wednesday I noticed the same games were listed which I figured was just because they hadn't refreshed Weds game since it was still the morning.

So I check today(Thursday) and I notice the same games that were listed on Tuesday are still listed. Now I know this can't be because my university team was playing tonight on ESPN and the game still would not show up in the widget. It is almost as if the widget only connected to ESPN the first time and has not connected since. Does anyone have any idea what I could do to remedy this?

In addition to this my Safari is still crashing on occasion. It happens under two different circumstances.

1. Any time I load up AOL Mail and try to delete mail boom it crashes.....
2. If i have 4 - 5 tabs open and I am going between them it also crashes.....it makes me feel like I am on egg shells when typing longs things within safari

If anyone could help me with the widget or safari that would be great.

I had a couple of weird instances where my iBook went back to sleep after being woken up by opening the lid. Gotta do some more tests later to see if it still happens.

happens to me too. try pushing to power button (not hold down just press) if it goes back to sleep after lifting the lid.

I am having the same problem with the ESPN widget...don't know of a fix other than removing the widget and re-adding it, which is just plain silly.

There also seems to be a USB mass storage issue. Both on a G4 Powerbook and G5 Powermac attaching a flash drive or USB card reader with a card in maxes out the CPU's and the fans kick in. Never happened before.I have to force quit mass storage via Activity Monitor. 10.4.4 sucks. I'm going to try and reinstall it, nothing else has worked :(

wow!
my computer hasn't been running well at all. this is the worst it has been, ever. All my preferences are gone, all my mail accounts are gone, along with my safari bookmarks! My computer is sucking and i can't stand it.

ugh!

I'm getting the issue with Safari where I can't close any windows. I also can't close any tabs in Safar... really weird.

Haven't noticed any other problems yet. OSX Update 10.4.4 also doesn't show up in installed updates...
