Questions

There is a lot of excitement for "GetElementsbyClassName." How would that translate to the end user in terms of browsing experience?

Same question goes for HTML5.

Thanks :)

Having looked through apples pages for 10.3.1-10.3.9 I can't find the one that was released on a Sunday, so perhaps this information is wrong. However that said there is a chance they could release it on a Sunday so why not include it in the list.

Looking at the dates on wikipedia's 10.3 page, 10.3.5 is listed as August 8, 2004 which is a sunday. But looking at apple's page, they list it released august 9, and other sites back up that date. Looks like wikipedia is wrong on that one.

So it looks like they never have released an OS update on a sunday. Looking at 10.0.x, it looks like 10.0.1 was probably released on April 14, 2001, a saturday. But considering that the first update to osx was the only one that ever happened on a weekend, I doubt we'll ever see that happen again.

I think the best estimate for Leopard 10.5.2 to release is either tomorrow morning or Monday the latest. The new MBP's are rumored to include 10.5.2. Therefore the people at the factories need to install 10.5.2 before releasing them to the general public. Since the MBPs are supposedly going to release on February 12th, 2008, we can safely assume that the new update will release sooner or better (I hope). 9C32GM, yeah!

I've been testing 9C31. I really can't imagine Apple doing anymore for this version, it's incredibly solid. Everything is a lot smoother all around. Hopefully everyone will get a chance to get this ASAP.

getElementByClassName is a way of programatically finding a group of elements on a page that have a partucilar class. For example, you can select images with the class 'FadeInWhenMousedOver'. Then, in JavaScript, you can do all kinds of whizzy DHTML things.

The thing is, we can do that already using a library called prototype.js (or our own favourite implementation), and we have been doing it for years, so expect it to change absolutely nothing.

HTML 5 is regarded as a bit of a waste of time, though to be honest I've largely ignored it. Most people like the way things are going with XHTML and the two are kind of seperate entities. HTML 5's biggest claim to fame is that it supports nicer ways of embedding media.

What we're really looking forward to is the next version of CSS.

In another thread it is said that the MPs with NVIDIA 8800 GT have been shiped. As far as I know NVIDIA 8800 GT is not supported by 10.5.1.
Maybe 10.5.2. is allready on its way and will be announced in a few hours

Ehm, 3.1 actually tries to interpret video and audio tags arn.

In the post on the mainpage you should use HTML entities for greater than and smaller than to surround the video and audio tags... they are now picked up by Safari 3.1 and show nothing for the remainder of the post.

Are you sure? I just looked in the Apple Store. When I select the 8800 GT shipping date increases to 2-3 weeks.

Pretty interesting...if this is so the final update should really release by the end of next week (Friday), in unlikely cases the following Monday after that.
As I mentioned earlier. I don't think 10.5.2 has been delayed because of bandwith shortage. They just wanted it to be extremely solid and fixed as many bugs as they could. According to Stellerola earlier in this thread it ís extremely solid right now, so a release is most likely very near.

Why would they else release a new seed with just one single bugfix? To heighten the buildnumber up a little? Nah, they just want it to be extremely solid and release it as soon as possible.

Yes, that is true.

There are some graphics card updates (for several different models) that will be installed after 10.5.2

Someone noted that there are two installers for developers, one for drivers, the other the main 10.5.2 update.

Nobody knows when this is coming out, really it could be anytime from now till a couple weeks away.

Yes, it's true. There will be one single Leopard Graphics Update which requires 10.5.2 to be installed.
So there will be 10.5.2 and there will be the Leopard Graphics Update.

Most likely the graphics update will improve graphics on all graphic cards when running Leopard.

P.s. I'm not restrained by NDA, I got this information elsewhere.

It is impossible to know the exact release date. (unless of course you're someone who works at Apple working on this update) I truly believe though that we will see it before the end of the week.

I'm sure Apple is making it as secure as can be.

I'm betting that when the SDK ships, Safari 3.1 will be come on the iPhone. Weren't these database features rumored a few months ago? They'd be perfect for someone writing a web app and using the iPhone for database storage (notes, todos, etc).

I hope you are right, so far every person in the security field I talked to has responted with WTF!

I am sure this will do a lot for user experience, but I have major concerns withthe ability to secure the data being placed client side. Up to what I read so far, this SQL interface looks bad.

I expect the security researchers which have time to dig into the code, will be all over this and the downloadable fonts. A lot of hacks based on downloading a malform font have been used in the past.

Time will tell.
