At this point I'm assuming that's because it's going to be the last Leo version ever, and also the last version that's not going to be Intel-only. After that, it's gonna be SnowLeo and Intel only.

You've gone and started it now

I thought that was pretty obvious? A forgone conclusion one might say...

I can't deal with this. 10.5.6 has been so buggy and they just keep teasing us with these seeds...
Seriously, what bugs do you personally come across regularly in 10.5.6?

I hope Apple hurries the hell up and releases this ASAP. I just ordered a 4870 and can't be bothered to install third party drivers.

I hope they make iChat more stable, because my friends and I always have trouble with iChat crashing whenever we want to video/audio chat.

Given that point releases are every 3 months, on average, and that SL won't likely come out until September, at the earliest, the argument could be made that one more point release is due in Leopard. The length of time its taking in this one, however, would argue that this is the last one.

nothing like the pleasant read of yet another 10.5.7 who, what, when, where, why and no im right your wrong thread.

its news thats all. we will have it when they deliver it.

I responded to another comment such as this a few weeks ago. Most of the errors (such as "failed as xxxxxx didn't respond to request") are from port forwarding on various routers. Apple wireless routers are automatically configured to allow TCP and UDP ports for video and audio transmissions in iChat. However, this is not the case for non-Apple wireless routers such as Linksys, Belkin and Netgear. In those cases, you need to manually open the necessary ports on BOTH ends of the chat in order for video and audio communication. Googling "ichat port forwarding" will bring up many articles on how to set up wireless routers for video sessions in iChat.

Below is Apple's instruction on how to open specific ports in order for iChat to be fully operational (remember all wireless routers need to be properly configured):

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507?viewlocale=en_US

Ports to open for third-party firewall
If you use a third-party firewall, be sure to open these ports:

5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678, and 16384 through 16403.

If that does not work, you could open all ports from 1024 through 65535 (or disable the firewall temporarily).

On topic, I am a little curious as to what Apple has up their sleeve. This has to be one of the longest and most seeded 10.x.x updates I have witnessed. Something tells me Apple is stalling. Perhaps there is a feature that Apple has tucked away, perhaps Safari 4.0 needs a little more ironing out before its official release with 10.5.7. Speculation makes a boring day interesting, but I am very curious about possible Blu-Ray capabilities given some of the recent rumors around iTunes 8.2. I realize many insist Apple will never support Blu-Ray as iTunes is their desired medium of choice. As noted, iTunes delivers 720p without 5.1 surround sound. I have watched high-definition movies through iTunes and my Blu-Ray player on my 50" Pioneer plasma, and I have to admit there is a considerable difference in quality. It's almost unbelievable. As Apple is also on the Blu-Ray board, I would be quite surprised if they do not support Blu-Ray media playback on OS X (whether it is 10.5 or 10.6). Apple is gearing up for something, and it isn't just the iPhone release.

Bugs

I bought a new Mini 2 weeks ago to replace my original Core Solo and there if Def something wrong . When coming out of sleep, the screen with freeze and I can't click on anything (although the mouse moves)... No way to fix it other than to do a hard boot....

I never had this problem with any of my other Macs.. I assume it's a driver issue with the Nvidia and that it will be corrected im .7

JUST A COUPLE MORE MONTHS AND IT'S HERE!!!!

-_-; That's the likely reality. We'll see this 2 weeks before Snowy goes on sale.

Honestly, what's the problem with the Safari beta and X.5.7? Maybe a developer can fill us in, without violating an NDA.

I don't think any one has mentioned this yet, and this is of course pure speculation, but did anyone stop and consider why they were asked to pay special attention on ichat testing? With all the rumors around video integration on the iPhone and the possiblities of front cameras and/or some style of video chatting, I wonder if this is some new feature for making iphone video calls... ?? That would be kind of cool. :apple:

A few Leopard beta's (10A233 or such) had an "Answering Machine" feature in iChat that allowed a video recorded away message to be used. This feature was quickly removed from further Leopard beta's, but was a featured post on Macrumors that had a lot of people chatting. A few speculated that Apple may have been experimenting on full medium integration, using the home computer for the internet and land/mobile lines, allowing digital answering recording for both iChat and a home answering system. Others just assumed Apple was testing out an idea that had not been fully ironed out. Another commentary mentioned that Apple had to pull it due to a copyright infringement. Otherwise, there was no official response from Apple regarding the nature of its appearance and disappearance.

I rather liked the feature and was disappointed Apple pulled it. I still have a beta with that feature in iChat. I wonder if there is a way in getting it into the current iChat, through exploring iChat's contents and fiddling with it.

I heard the installer is configured to support only 10.5.6 so it cannot be installed on anything higher or lower than that version. Safari itself is fine.

So if you already have Safari 4.0 installed and update to 10.5.7 you should still be able to run it, right? If it's just the installer, I would assume that a) Apple can recode the installer to accept 10.5.7 b) already existing installations work.

We're waiting on a certain mouse folks.;)

Is this what you're referring:

Apple’s touch technology has grown leaps and bounds since the debut of the Mighty Mouse. A 2007 patent application details an “arbitrary shaped grippable member” (don’t get any filthy ideas here) that incorporates positioning and multitouch detection to determine a users action. In essence, it would act as one seamless area from which a user could scroll and pan by dragging a finger over the device’s surface. The mouse would also have the ability to process various movements and gestures assigned to different functions on the computer.

Personally, I'm suffering through two pretty major bugs introduced by 10.5.6.

The first is the issue with Safari not working with Paychex Employee Benefits website. Something about not accepting cookies. This is the same issue that people who bank with BB&T are experiencing on their website. Yes, it works in Firefox but why should I need a whole seperate program just to access one website?

The second MAJOR bug is that I have a Time Capsule, use Time Machine, and also have Filevault enabled. My filevaulted home folder has not backed up since 10.5.6 was introduced.

I know both of these issues are fixed in 10.5.7 so...:D
