I've had exactly the opposite experience with my Windows PC, I had an update fail with an unknown error and from that time onwards - Windows Update never ever worked again. Until I installed Ubuntu on it ;)

I've had exactly the opposite experience with my windows PC. Over 10 years of using Windows, Windows Update never causes any problem for me. ;)
I am still frustrated about my iMac keeping freezing randomly though, Apple please just fix it already. It runs fine in Bootcamp, never ever freeze in Windows 7.

Although the wait and non-stop seeding without a release is a bit irritating, it's okay that they take their time to release it as bug-free as possible.
:)

Safari 4 works

Safari 4 beta works with 10.5.7 if you add it AFTER you install the update.

The problem is the install program will not install 10.5.7 if you already have 10.5.6 with Safari 4 installed.

By the way anyone else used to the "tabs on top" now that you've used them for a bit?? I am. Seems second nature to me now.

I have got the feeling that 10.5.7 will be the last before Snow Leopard. Maybe one more 10.5.8 but we will not get to the .11 like 10.4.11. I expect Snow Leopard around Labor Day (a week or two).

Agreed. It's weird using Safari 3 now.

Yep, although i liked it from the start.

I do still miss the blue loading bar however and would like to see it added back in a way that doesn't screw up the other parts of the browser.

Anyone have a DMG of this build ?

I could care less about Safari 4. I just want some fixes and don't like the mountains of BS that come with this update.

If there is a torrent, up and running, someone let me know.

:apple:=suck

Guys, any news if this build or the upcoming builds will add the fast graphic switching feature(i.e. without logging out)? It's really cumbersome on these macbook pro's. :(

Seed notes say nothing about this, however there are newer drivers. It is possible they have fixed this but we haven't heard anybody confirm this yet.

Judging by the number of conficker infections and blind windows drone PC's spreading their infection. It seems Windows PC's and Windows Update is an obvious flaw.

This is a totally different issue. Security is without a doubt a problem on PCs due to the popularity of the platform and the fundamental system design. Mac isn't immune to any virus, Trojan, worms, etc too. However, taking a virus specifically targeting Windows as an example isn't fair. Update to that flaw does exist, it totally depends on user to install it. It's not like Microsoft can force installing the update to any single PC, can they?

Also, I was just saying that from my personal experience. Can you point out what I said that you quoted would imply in any way Windows Update is perfect? ;)

Look at the source of the infections, they mostly are located in populations where there is a high number of piracy issues. MS purposely disabled the ability to gain updates for those pirate copies, I understand for any kind of features/product updates but not security updates. It should be available to every single PC including pirated copies. That is the biggest flow in their Windows Update as well as WGA program.

It's the same idea of herd immunity.

BTW: MS did announce yesterday that they will start doing this for Windows 7, security updates for ALL Windows copy regardless of activation status, meaning pirated copy will continue to get updates as well. That's very good news and probably one of the best "feature" of W7.

Do you even realize how incredibly clueless a statement like yours is?

No, I don't. Would you please enlighten me?

If by clueless you mean that I believe the many seeds that have been put out over the past few months are in fact meant to 'tease,' you are mistaken. I fully understand the amount of work that goes on in software development to get even the smallest of kinks worked. 10.5.6 has seemed to me to be one of the buggiest versions of 10.x.x that I have experienced, and it makes waiting for the next revision that much more tantalizing than previous updates. I emphasize this point with this wait between updates is the second longest between 10.x.x updates (10.4.8-10.4.9 being the longest).

10.5.6, more buggier than 10.5...wait more buggier than the first release of OS X?

I dunno, 10.5.6 works fine for me. I didn't have a lot of issues, not anymore than any previous OS release. Guess I must be doing something good or I am just lucky.

He wants Apple to release a buggy OS to fix his currently buggy OS? Did i get it right? *claps*

Ive experienced ongoing bugs in 10.5 relating to sleeping. My system freezes when trying to wake up, or i get the continuous beachball, or the "login box" wont display or when in Front Row it wont quit out after its been left idling.

All very random, works one minute, not the next.

Cant wait for 10.6

Do you use iStat? It may not be OSX itself but something else. Many people got same issue as you described and one of the source was iStat, Vertex SSD and some other that I can't remember.

This is the main one, for me: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9042218&tstart=0

If you use Time Machine and FileVault, and have a Time Capsule, your home directory is never backed up. At all.

I'd like 10.5.7 to come out so that I don't have to keep doing manual backups - and I don't think I should have to pay for another piece of backup software, since I ostensibly paid for Time Machine when I bought Leopard.

My FileVault encrypted home folder backs up via Time Machine to a TimeCapsule when I log in to another non-encrypted user. 10.5.6. Try it.

I don't have any problems with 10.5.6. I don't understand what people are doing to their systems. I just want 10.5.7 for the updated video drivers.

Thanks for the advice. That's what I've been doing to manually force a backup, but it's still annoying that it doesn't just happen when I log out. It just blows my mind that something like that made it through QA...

10.5.7 needs to hurry up!

Sweet. Now everyone can start the next Tuesday chants again. As always, I am rooting for you all to get your update.

I don't think the length of time is necessarily an indication this will be the last 10.5. They have been taking longer with these point updates in general. Maybe it is a policy change, or maybe as the complexity of the OS grows they just have to do more testing.
