So if you already have Safari 4.0 installed and update to 10.5.7 you should still be able to run it, right? If it's just the installer, I would assume that a) Apple can recode the installer to accept 10.5.7 b) already existing installations work.

I personally don't have access to 10.5.7 but that is what I have heard, yes.

Check out the competition...

Although tangentally off-topic, this made me chuckle today...

Windows 7

"We were able to shave 400 milliseconds off the shutdown time by slightly trimming the WAV file shutdown music..."

I kid you not!!

Let's face it - it's all about me ;)

I posted a comment over a month ago this thing was going to come out in like 1-2 weeks. At this point all they're trying to do is make me look bad :D

I swear if this 5.x release was a soldier I'd darn near call it MIA by now. It's like we get a homing beacon once a week that it's still out there somewhere but we sure as heck can't find it.

I thought that was pretty obvious? A forgone conclusion one might say...

Seriously, what bugs do you personally come across regularly in 10.5.6?

This is the main one, for me: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9042218&tstart=0

If you use Time Machine and FileVault, and have a Time Capsule, your home directory is never backed up. At all.

I'd like 10.5.7 to come out so that I don't have to keep doing manual backups - and I don't think I should have to pay for another piece of backup software, since I ostensibly paid for Time Machine when I bought Leopard.

I tend to agree with bedifferent's view that Apple is stalling on this release because of some new features and /or having to integrate with other hardware or.......

The new product rumors point to a very interesting spring and summer - Go Apple :D :D

My feeling is that the Mac OS team is waiting for the next update of the Safari 4 beta. Probably the Safari team is behind schedule, and 10.5.7 is stalled because of that. In the meantime, the OS maintainers are using the time to incorporate new fixes to the fix pack.

Either way I want that rumored, shiny, aluminum, multi-touch Mighty Mouse. My life just wouldn't be the same without it. :D

At this point I'm assuming that's because it's going to be the last Leo version ever, and also the last version that's not going to be Intel-only. After that, it's gonna be SnowLeo and Intel only.

Source: my ass.

LMAO! :D :D

It feels snappier! really!

I don't know if it is just me but it really feels snappier.

It's runs smoother than 10.5.6 and I definitly have less rainbow spinner.

Don't have to use resetsync.pl anymore. It dosen't jam syncing with mobileme.

I bought a new Mini 2 weeks ago to replace my original Core Solo and there if Def something wrong . When coming out of sleep, the screen with freeze and I can't click on anything (although the mouse moves)... No way to fix it other than to do a hard boot....

I never had this problem with any of my other Macs.. I assume it's a driver issue with the Nvidia and that it will be corrected im .7
If you're on the MacBook Pro, you can get out of that state with some combo, which I always forget until it happens, of closing/opening the case and pressing the power button (or is it the brightness buttons?). Unfortunately, none of that will probably work on the mini.

Yes, I had not been seeing these exiting sleep issues for quite a while before 10.5.6 (like since 10.4 on PPC).

i think we will be seeing SL after labor day-too many informed sources note this; the OLD release date was June-So I held off buying 10.5.4 retail until a couple months ago-when I heard it was Sept I went ahead and bought Leo, wanting to upgrade from Tiger instead of waiting 8 more months

He's not kidding, I purchased the 13" 2.4 unibody and all the keys were on a very noticeable slant and made it annoying to type at times, plus it looked really bad, i had to send the laptop in and was without it for a week so they can replaced the keyboard, other then that I agree with ya

I think it all boils down to luck really. My 2.4 unibody pro was flawless no problems what so ever. I would say they are not worse in quality than their competitors if not better.

Wouldn't you rather have them get it right the first time than to rush out a buggy release? Hell, even when something is done right, people still bitch and moan.

If Apple had gotten it right the first time, we would still be on 10.5.0.;)

Lol, that made my day aswell, they must be so proud.

The Windows 7 Starter Edition will have limitations on how many applications can be used concurrently on a machine in order to preserve performance
This actually freaked me out a little bit.. (quoted from your same link)..

I haven't had a Windows Update break my machine in my 10 years of using Windows Update.

Sadly I can't say the same for OS X.

I've had exactly the opposite experience with my Windows PC, I had an update fail with an unknown error and from that time onwards - Windows Update never ever worked again. Until I installed Ubuntu on it ;)

It has been the opposite for me. Software Update never broke my machine since I first started using Mac OS X (I think it was 10.4.2). But there were a few incidants where Windows Update screwed up the system. Most recently was the update to Vista SP1. Apparently the update failed and broke something with the filesystem, even the Windows Installer DVD would BSOD. So I had to boot the machine up from a Linux LiveCD so I could fix the file system.
