I have to bite my tongue and remind myself that not everyone lives here in San Francisco, and doesn't know the lay out of Moscone West convention center (where the event will be held).
This is a building with a 3 story lobby, with full glass windows wrapping around it. Windows that allow FULL and CLEAR view of these banners.
Folks, stop wasting your time trying to read ANYTHING into these banners!
We all know Apple isn't going to leak anything via these banners, more so since they've been up since yesterday in FULL and CLEAR view of anyone walking down the street and happens to turn their head and look inside the lobby.
Just hold your breaths and wait till Monday when we'll finally hear what Steveo has to say for himself and we can then all jump onto the Apple Store website or go stand in line at the Apple store and plunk down our credit cards for whatever it is thats shiny and new that we couldn't live without on Sunday night.

And yes... if it's a new iPhone I'll be in line, as my housemate wants her first iPhone and seems as good a time as any.

It would be dumb to think there is NOTHING to gain from interpreting banners hanging in the Moscone West Convention Center. I mean, in January they did have posters which read "There's something in the air." Then this site's admin, Arn, put that together with some insider tips to announce beforehand that the Macbook Air was going to be unveiled. I didn't believe that was true at the time. So we were able to figure out an entirely new product would be released before Steve said a word. I don't think that is something to overlook.

That being said, I don't see much in these banners to suggest anything out of the ordinary, besides the odd accelerometer icon and search icon. I just think its funny how many people don't realize perspective in their everyday lives and don't have the ability to visualize what things look like head-on. Maybe its just something that artists can see? After taking tons of photos and using Lightwave enough, its easy as pie. No new products in that banner.

I think I'm going to take a break and go outside this weekend. You know, where all the plants and animals live? Get some fresh (macbook-less) air. Then immediately get back onto my MBP at 11:55am CDT on Monday. Or maybe just get in line at the Apple Store and use the iPhone optimized version just in case. But until then...birds, trees, and this creature called a girlfriend?

Photographers should consider disabled people!

Just pointing out the obvious in an arrogant manner because some people have got this unnecessary "OMG that's not an MBA" thing going on, which is just risible.

Of course, it might look just like the MBA and not be, but my point is, somebody takes one ordinary photo looking in from an angle and a handful of people react like they've never seen anything from an angle before. "The sides ARE SHORTER" and such. We got some people correcting them, using technical lingo (which is fine, but this isn't rocket science). Maybe MacRumors has a whole bunch of users who have recently lost one of their eyes. I guess whoever takes photos like this one should in the future consider these -- for lack of a better term -- disabled people.

New smilies for the cyclopean among us! .) .( .P etc.

yes.. but no

i completely agree about the angle thing, and i never would have found this if i hadnt ran across the FULL size (its quite large) version on flickr. http://flickr.com/photos/gernot/2554181096/sizes/o/ Anyways, if you look at the poster closest to us, the one with the corner of the "MBA", you can see about a quarter of an inch from the right side and about a half of an inch up from the bottom there is a darker spot. This is what the sleep light looks like on the current MBA when off... but on the MBA, the light is next to the IR sensor on the right side. That should be easy to see on the really long poster on the wall, but its not there. Also, the IR sensor looks... the wrong proportions. Too thick. The Air's is really thin.

I know its been said its probably nothing, but i couldnt help but notice that.

Thats all

EDIT: I was looking at more pictures of the Air on the Apple website, and that little thing is there... i just dont remember it!

sorry

Lets all calm down.

Here is the banner with perspective removed. It is an MBA

Thank you hobbz.

If Apple has made it this far without us seeing any "real" images of new products, it really doesn't seem likely that they would plaster an image of a completely redesigned product in an easily viewable location.

I'm kinda stuck on the comment earlier where someone pointed out the big banner at Moscone Center not saying "MacOS X Leopard" and just "OS X Leopard" now. In my experience over the past 5 years or so, Apple has never had a banner like that one, it's always been branded as "MacOS X" or "Mac OS X".

I'm kinda convinced in some respects that "A landmark event." is a hint at GPS capability for the iPhone, possibly one of the Macbooks as well if not all, it's not that hard to add to the present state of the technology. And "In more ways than one." is obviously hinting at more than one big announcement, soooo...

While I've always been a proponent of the concept that Apple simply could never ever offer OS X as a standalone product - the sheer idea of it and the nearly infinite variety of hardware they'd end up trying to support is simply unfathomable and couldn't be done - what if they've decided to "bridge" the gap once and for all between their OS and generic PCs? Hmmm... It's not like it can't be done absolutely because it can (OSx86, obviously is another "bridge" in some respects). But if this is the case, good lord, can you imagine the storm it would whip up?

Monday will be very interesting, indeed.

In more ways than one.

OS X for ordinary PCs. Mark my words.

Never gonna happen, especially with Jobs at the helm of Apple. It would KILL Steve to see some crappy DELL run OSX. It would also pretty much kill Mac sales, which is where Apple make their money (not in OS sales).

I know all of that, and I would tend to think the same. But it wouldn't be the first time Steve- announced something groundbreaking ...landmark-y... like this.

Here is the one thing I don't understand about the rumor mill. So many people have their hands in the production process----why are there not more leaks? Case in point: Graphic designers, assemblers, shippers, hardware vendors, even the people who make the boxes! An NDA only goes so far...

It's because the software designers never see the product, the hardware designers barley know whats going on with the software, and when it comes to to making sure all that silicon fits inside its plastic and metal housing, they use a mock up made of wood, cut to the exact specs. That's what I read.

We'll soon see. I love WWDC/MacWorld, it's so exciting to be a Mac user at these times! :D

I always thought eventually they would drop the 'X' in Mac OS X and just go back to MacOS 10.9 (for example). It seems instead they are going to drop the 'Mac' and just call it 'OS X' !

What I said was meant to be taken as a joke. ;)

Come on, no one believes anon.

Yeah I know.

As for the whole Mac OS X --> OS X thing, you guys will be CRYING like babies when nothing special happens. There won't be any PCs running OS X at all.

They most likely did this because there are two devices, one of which is not a Mac (contrary to the iPhone junkies) that run the same OS. There might even be a third.

But keep building up the hype... I have my crybaby photo ready and rearing to go for Monday evening. All the Mac Book and Mac Book Pro redesign crybabies will be there, along with the Mac Mini and ACD crybabies.

There might be a 3G iPhone, there most likely will be a lot of talk about the SDK and the release of a full version since what we have now is a Beta. Hopefully there will be an up and running app store, contrary to the iPhone junkie's who think WWDC will answer and solve everyone's issues with the iPhone.

Uhm...it is just MaxOS 10.x....

the X only stands for 10, not MacOs eXtreme , MacOs Xcalibur etc etc.

Many people will call it different things. for most its easier to say OS X rather then "OS 10" but both will be right until OS 11 comes out (where people may say OS XI (ex eye))

Since everyone here is speculating, I am going to make a huge guess...

...Which is most likely wrong but.

It is a developers conference... What if the dropping of 'Mac' from the OS X name implies it going cross platform. I'm afraid to even say this here but, PC?

Now I know thats blasphemy to most and I don't much disagree, but I have always thought that it could be a quite effective strategy to get PC users to cross over.

So I'm probably way off and the dropping of 'Mac' from the name simply due to its integration with the iPhone. But I can't help thinking about the two bridges in the invitation... and the fact that it is highly anticipated that .mac will disappear and be replaced with 'me.' I just can't help but wonder why they are ridding themselves of the Mac reference, the service very well could have been named mobile.mac?

hehe ok, pure speculation is over now.

EDIT: I just saw many other people making the same guess so disregard this :)

Apple writes "Mac OS X 10.5" not "Mac OS 10.5" or "Mac OS X.5"

The X is part of the name not the version number.

what do you make of this ?
