I think they didn't put Mac in front of OS X Leopard for one of two reasons:
1. They couldn't fit it on the banner without making the font smaller.
2. The iPhone banner with Mac OS X iPhone wouldn't be appropriate since the iPhone isn't a Mac.
There's no way that Apple will be selling OS X for Windows boxes in the first place. Steve Jobs hated clones and killed them off after coming to Apple in 1997. It would drive away sales from their hardware.
Dumb question when is WWDC?
I don't understand the people on this site. Over 400 posts for this story? Come on.

Apple writes "Mac OS X 10.5" not "Mac OS 10.5" or "Mac OS X.5"
The X is part of the name not the version number.
So apple decided to throw years of tradition out of the window?
I don't think so.
Sorry, there is no such thing as "Mac OS X" version "10.5". What happened to the other 9 versions?
There are 10 versions of Mac OS, in which apple is interchangeably using X instead of saying 10 because it just sounds better.
Mac Os 10.5 = Mac Os X Leopard.
Umm, look at all of Apple's own marketing and labeling. In fact, on your own computer (you are using a Mac, right?) look at your "About this Mac" dialog in the Apple Menu. What are you running? It says "Mac OS X" then underneath that "Version 10.5.3" or whatever version you're running. Look at the online Apple Store: Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
Apple's clearly refuting your idea there.

Have you considered the fact that Apple now has two O/S's ?
While there used to be Mac OS X. It was for Macs.
Now we have two versions of OS X
OS X which is for the Mac and iPhone OS X which is for the iPhone and any other mobile O/S.
