You guys seem to have forgot the laws of perspective, things farther away look smaller. The iPhone is way at the front of the keyboard And the screen is a good 8 inches behind it.

WAIT! UPDATE!

That can't be a MacBook Air... look at the bezel under the screen compared to the side!

Huh.

that s what I also saw...;)

been doing the comparison from that and the Air and just doesn t match!

Maybe I am extremely pessimistic, but I think its slightly obvious that the banner is distorted, for whatever reason. The iPhone looks fatter (wider), and the screen on the Air is messed up because everything seems to be stretched vertically. Even, the icons appear stretched just enough to make them look a little off...

Please don't tell me you guys really think that Apple, a super secretive company by any standard, is going to put up uncovered banners of a new product before its announced in plain enough view that a photographer can get good pictures of it... Please, for the love of The Steve tell me you don't really think that...

Lets get real here people! Apple is not going to display a picture of a new product 3 days before the event for everyone to see!

Its a GRAPHIC of the Macbook Air. It is not going to look like a perfect photograph.

If the picture was it then that means the new iPhone is going to be about the size of a person.

Lets all calm down.

Here is the banner with perspective removed. It is an MBA

Thank you! I posted the same and was ignored. I can't believe so many people here can't figure that out. It's called foreshortening and happens with imagery viewed from an angle.

That's it. Mystery solved.

And anyway, when was the last time Apple prominently displayed a new product on a banner pre-WWDC without covering it up and surrounding it with armed guards? :D

The sides are still shorter...

It's not perfect, but I'm telling you 100% this is an MBA. If you can't see what perspective is doing and visualize what the poster would look like if you were looking straight at it, then you will never get it.

Good comparison. Thanks for compiling that. It is indeed a new thicker computer. That is not the MacBook Air.

Looks like my wish is coming true. New MacBook Pro on Tuesday! :)

I'm barely puffing along with my first gen MBP. My Aperture library has gotten my HDD down to 5GB available :(

Also: funny how the MBA actually makes the current MBP look quite fat. Amazing. Just a couple of years ago, I was so impressed at how slim the MBP was.

To settle this debate once and for all, I will take a page from CSI:

Edit: There's still a bit of distortion there due to laziness. But you still cannot deny this irrefutable proof! Look at everything else, they all pretty much match up exactly.

2nd edit: I have bigger if you need.

While perspective may enhance it, look at the sides. They ARE shorter. Maybe the MBA is stretched or something, but the sides ARE shorter on the side.

See?

You my friend need to get a girlfriend or a life, hell go for both.

The iphone at the front of the long banner also has odd proportions, longer and thinner perhaps..... Its in front of the orange logo....It may be the perspective but does anyone else think it looks different?

oh but they do, and 20 photoshoppers have gone to work to prove it. guess the sign covering guy feel asleep on his lunch hour.

yeah, right.

Yeah, how dare they post it on macnews.com ... oh wait, this is macRUMORS.com. I guess technically this isn't a rumor either, as they don't conjecture anything based on the banners. That's where we come in!

I think "OS X iPhone" means that everyone who buys/bought Leopard gets a free iPhone. And a Leopard.

I heard Apple has a massive shipment of Leopards coming in from Taiwan on Monday. Coincidence?

Huh.

Second that! The thick bezel cannot be a poster designers mistake.... when the design supervisors are the big shots from Apple.... Got to imply something shiny, something new, something :apple:

So it seems like rumours of Leopard's demise have been greatly exaggerated. I think all the news sites may have been a little premature to jump on this "multiple versions of OS X simultaneously" bit. And all these super-zoomed-in photos and analysis of the boarder thickness of what could maybe be a MacBook Air...or could be an "unidentified flying mac"...is hilarious.

Just wanted to emphasize this, in case anyone missed it. When you distort a picture like this through perspective, the planes (X and Y) distort at differing degrees. Anyone else who does design, especially 3D design, will confirm this.

No, I don't think that. It's a bad picture, and there are people debating over it- it's not 'obviously' something other then a MacBook air, but it LOOKS like it. This is a rumour site, let us discuss them...

I disagree with your opinion about the MacBook Air, but I agree with your post.

Ooo! Ahhh! A banner! OS X Leopard. Is that out now? And Apple has a mobile platform? This is exciting. Can someone tell me again what will be discussed at WWDC?

They've shaved 5mm off each side (and a bit off the rear of the case) to make it more ultra portable (eeePC like). This'll be the MacBook Air short back and sides edition, guaranteed to be a hit with the hairdressers out there.

Your sheer mastery of sarcasm brings a tear to my eyes. Thank you for bringing something so beautiful into my day. ;)

But seriously, I can't wait for this! I have been without a mac (mobile or otherwise) since I sold my iPhone and air to make money to move to CA, and I can't wait to buy a new 3G iPhone!

Does anyone know if there is a compiled list of people known to be writing for the iphone on the net somewhere? It will be really cool to see who all (major developers like EA and otherwise) is writing for the iPhone now and to see this thing stretch its legs a little more than what the jailbreaking community has provided.

Well, I'm giddy as a school girl... :D

Couple of FYIs that apparently can't be overstated:
1) Macrumors.com is an Apple news/rumor/follow Steve's every move/let those of us who can't be at WWDC know what's going on site. If you are going to complain about what the founder/owner puts on the front page, then please go start your own site because it doesn't make sense to come to an Apple site and complain about Apple related articles. Thank you if you made it this far.

Huh? Seems a bit OT to me, but hey. The girl's giddiness must be gettin' to her, and after all, who can blame her?

4 more days! Let's hope it turns out to be worth the wait.
