There's no rush really. Why are you in such a hurry ? They'll ship it when they're happy with it.

there are two groups one looking out for MBA/MB/MM and other Lion

the first group wants the hardware released regardless of the OS X Lion shipped or not

and second group badly wants OS X Lion.

the OP may be looking for hardware not the Lion, IMHO.

Oh well, apparently there was a lot of problems anyway.

Or, they are just playing with everyone, and will be releasing it tomorrow!

I'm getting a bunch of emails from third party developers saying this or that won't work in Lion. Most, but not all of the issues are with the lack of Rosetta support and say they will be fixed "in the future".

I'll not be upgrading anytime soon

Which brings me to my major question:

Once they ship the new MBAirs with Lion pre-installed, do you think I'll be able to downgrade it to Snow Leopard if I choose?

I want the new hardware, but I certainly don't want to spend the next several months sifting through all the incompatabilities that this new OS might drag along with it.

Alright, my library opens at 1:00-which, coincidentally, is 10:00 AM Cupertino time. So I think I'll walk over there and pick up that book. You know what? Then I'll have a little lunch. Maybe read the paper. Then-only then-will I check MacRumors for a final time. If Lion has not been released, I will simply close Safari... and get on with my life. :D

No, you have never officially been able to install an older OS on a Mac that whatever it was shipped with it.

Well they closed down the Downloads page earlier on today, so, things are starting...

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but the article you linked says that the only noticed the downloads page was gone today, but could have gone down any time during the last 2 weeks.

That being said, screw this Lion delay garbage and let me buy a new Mac mini already! ;)

Dayum. Nonetheless, it shows the wheels are in motion...

AppleWorks will not run on Lion.

When you run a law office and you have over 10,000 files in AppleWorks, you use it everyday for work, and then Lion comes out and DOES NOT support ANY PowerPC apps at ALL....then you are up a creek without a paddle. You just don't upgrade to Lion.

This is the situation my Dad is in right now with his old White Core 2 Duo iMac, running Snow Leopard and AppleWorks, which he has been running his law practice on since the old G3 iMac.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote read AppleWorks document, spreadsheet and presentation files. The whole iWorks set isn't all that expensive, either.

Pages is more of a Page Layout Application like Adobe PageMaker. It is not a general Word Processing app like ClarisWorks or AppleWorks was for documents. That is why he might not like to use iWork, it is a totally different thing. He uses AppleWorks to print envelopes and legal format documents as well.

Pages works in either layout or word processing modes.

Don't dismiss it because of issues that don't actually apply.

That isn't true[/QUOTE]

who can afford such a thing? No point making a wonderful product when no home user can afford it.

This is why steve jobs is so wonderful.
He produced final cut os x , so that the mass can afford it.

apple computer is company that sell volume to normal people like you and me. not astro design 70k monitor for pro.

That why i am waiting for os x Lion, it will bring news about new LED monitor, apple take my money for 3200x2000 monitor. It's yours already.

I'm probably going insane, so feel free to ignore me completely (actually, please do), but I could have SWORN the first reports I read about those overnights stated they'd be TONIGHT, not last night. Whoever it was that said to wait until 10:00 Cupertino time has a point-I'll, how you say, "give up hope" for a release today after then. Tomorrow would make sense, but if it doesn't happen, I'm betting it won't be for another week at LEAST.
...Wow, I need to work on my ranting post style. It's not very respectable.

New OS releases have typically come out on Fridays. In fact, I'm pretty sure all of the OS X releases have been on Fridays.
New hardware updates have not. I'm pretty sure there's never been a new hardware release on a Friday.

All of the major OS X updates have had some sort of publicity leading up to a specific date. Hardware updates have not. Fridays are typically a very bad day to release anything a company wants to get into a news cycle.

At best, I think we can hope for an an announcement of a date tomorrow. But I doubt Lion will be released tomorrow.

I'm still holding onto the idea that Apple is going to announce a specific date before they release it.

Yeah, I happen to feel that unless it comes out on July 1st, they should really publicize the date. It's unfair to be waiting around all month with no sign of when it will hit the Mac App Store.

Seriously? Did Apple send you an email asking you to "be waiting around all month?" It'll get released when it gets released - "waiting" for it isn't going to make it get here any faster.

Any fool could guess when Apple sent out the developer letters earlier this week about submitting their apps to the Mac App Store that Lion wasn't going to ship this week. I'll be surprised if it ships next week either. It takes time to go through those apps and get the apps posted to the store.

Please don't waste your time sitting up at night "waiting" for Lion to become available - you surely have better things to do.

Mind You this was the BOX OS VERSIONS. With this new deployment method, you don't have to find your local Apple, or get them to show you how to do it, the Apple Mac App Store, is design for a simple clip when you get to it method, so the Dates of previous models don't hold many playing cards because nothing has been done like this before.

why not ?

Friday makes the most sense.
I never liked Tuesday releases...from a fiscal point, seems like it would be slow the first couple of days.

Except that for SL they had to create/print DVDs for the release date while with Lion they're just releasing software on the App Store. Shouldn't need as much lead time with Lion.

There's no proof that I am aware of that putting Lion in the App Store requires less lead time. In many ways, they probably need more since they have never released an OS this way. And they are going to have to be able to handle a load like they have never seen (thus the new data center). My guess is they are going to be very cautious about making Lion live on the app store given there's a lot of variables they have never had to adjust for in the past given this distribution method.

I think friday is a good day.

I can't remember an OS that we didn't really get word from Apple Pre-Release, and with the APP Store, its all kind of new. So who knows the actual date, or the time, just know Apple is about to release Lion in the near future, and its consumers are waiting.

It's forced obsolescence to encourage people to upgrade.

Don't be silly.

What's working now won't quit working when the new version comes out. Nobody is forcing you to make any changes to you current system.

Now, if you really want or need to upgrade to get new functionality, well, that's still optional.

It's no different from continuing to drive your '46 Willys. Eventually, parts will be harder to get, but you can keep it running for a very long time.
