1) So media production is faster at the end of the month? They could just as easily release in the beginning.
2) There is no "enable Lion for download" button. In technology, there aren't "Buttons" for these kind of things. It is a much more detailed and complicated process.

Some common misconceptions. :-/ My intention is not to be harsh on you, but to point out some common flaws in thinking.

Media production is not faster at the end of the month, but the release is done once Apple is satisfied with their GM. With physical copies, they first must decide it is "ready," then begin production of the physical copies, then ship them.

With it being downloadable through the App Store, the minute they decide it is "ready" they can post it to the store and presto.

I understand. I would agree that the removal of media creation is analogous to "pressing a button." The reason I brought it up is that many people seem to think that anything computer-related must be done with the push of a button. This is simply not true. :)

Actually I think I mixed up the person I quoted with someone else; he didn't claim that media production was faster at the end of the month.

My apologies, roadbloc!

As true as that is, all them Mac OS X releases required time for media distribution. For Lion, all it takes is for Steve to wake up one day and push the 'enable Lion for download' button.

Well what is he waiting for!!?!?!?!?

Question about 1am UK Release rumor

I have a quick question regarding this rumor:

#1: the rumor says 1am, is that the time it becomes available, or they shut down the appstore? That means it could be a few hours after 1am UK time, right?

Don't get your hopes up. Not to mention Lion is being released through the App store. So as far as the Applestores (online or physical), it doesn't apply.

But again, don't get your hopes up, as far as we know Lion will be released on July 31st at 11:59pm, Hawaii time.

Alright bud, in more technical terms, steve needs to wake up in the morning, secure shell over, run "mysql -u diety -p", login, flip the boolean value for the Lion download, then go back to sleep...

Or he has an app for that...

they already shut down the store and was back around 20 min ago. in 40 min thats 1 am UK or 8 pm eastern time or 5 pm pacific time.

to tell you the truth those times do sound weird but i guess anything is possible.

no, Steve has a rarely known brother who's kept in the data center to do these things. His name is Cron Jobs xD

I don't expect to see Lion in 20 minutes. Also, I don't expect to see Lion this week at all. I'd expect it not sooner than next Thursday.

Yes, just had a quick look.

The problem with rumours is they sometimes get mistaken for as fact.

If it comes tomorrow, I'll be happy, but most of me knows it will be at the end of the month. In fact I remember talking to my mate last month and we were guessing about the date with me saying 26th. Can't remember why I picked that date, ithink it was an old rumour from back last month!

Possible... however that's not on a Friday. I just figured out the dates... and since 10.3 it's been on the last Friday of the month:

10.0 – Saturday
10.1 – Tuesday
10.2 – Saturday
10.3 – Friday
10.4 – Friday
10.5 – Friday
10.6 – Friday

I'm guessing just like everyone else... but the last Friday of the month (29th) would be most consistent.

But hey... Apple, PROVE ME WRONG!!! :D

Despite all the rumours, I'm not so sure either. I just looked on the MAS now and there's still no change even though it's 15 minutes til it's meant to go live...

Who are you to believe?

So... I just got in my Lamborghini and took off down the highway... going faster than the rotation of the earth by 6 minutes. Then I checked the MAS... and BINGO!!!

LION IS OUT!!!

Then I slowed down... turned around and came home. I have completely forgotten what happened in the last 6 minutes...

I wonder if Lion is coming out soon?
:p

You took the words right out of my mouth. It always bothers me when I see/hear "All they have to do is push a button and release the news!"

Its really not as simple as that.

3 minutes to go. Doesn't look like its going to happen. For a timed release, I'm still holding off for 9 AM Apple Time on whatever day they decide to release.
