SO how much is new iWork and iLife going to cost for people who did not get a new mac or iPhone? Sucks the older version I heard will not work with the new OS I wish they did not do that or make it free for people who already have iWork and iLife.

Downloaded it but when running the installer, it says it can't install to my Mac HD because it's used for Time machine backups! WTH? I have a separate Firewire drive for Time Machine.
Any advice?

are you on a notebook? OSX will create a hidden TM volume on notebooks, try plugging in your TM disk, run a backup and run Mavicks installer again.

Help from SL users

On Snow Leopard app store it only says "downloading", no indication of time left or size downloaded.

Anybody knows the location of the download on SL 10.6?
I would like to choose when & on which partition to install 10.9, is it possible?

Thanks to anybody who might help.

Looks like I will need to purchase new iLife and iWork.

That's 7 Years ago! Why are people expecting to update machines from over more than half a decade and why would you want to? Modern software is optimized for modern machines. If you could install it, you'll probably just run into more problems than benefits.

Nothing against older machines, but there's a certain point where you the benefits of the new software can't keep up with old hardware, which leads to a bad experience.

I doubt most people were expecting it, but it's nice when it happens, particularly if it runs better or runs the same with more features.

I've never had "more problems then benefits" updating older machines, typically it's slightly slower but more features and stability for me.

Bad experience or no, you can install it on a 6.5 year old machine (iMac Mid 2007 or newer). Not to mention older machines can be frequently repurposed even if the experience is laggy if you were actually using the machine regularly, and having updated connectivity features is beneficial in such a machine (my 2003 G5 repurposed media server says hello!).

After 10.9 downloads it will probably self mount itself and run. When you install you will get the chance to pick where to install 10.9. If you exit the installer you can re-run it from the Applications folder.

Yeah but how much will it cost? I hope I do not have to pay separately for each one it will cost too much, it will cost $60.

It will probably be $9.99 each unless Apple has changed the pricing which might have happened. I hope there is a bundle price which I suspect is not the case.

Took me 10 minutes to get to half way... now sitting there not moving for 10 minutes...

Oh wait, off she goes again.

This is great for a free update. Won't be installing yet though, just wanting this installer for a fresh install later.

okay im sorry if this was mentioned previously but i cannot browse through all these pages....
Is there any benefit of clean-installing vs. upgrading?

What about if i upgrade and start a brand new user profile - same effect as clean installing?

Reason I'm asking is my user profile harkens back to OS X Leopard days - back when I had the time to clean install every release! And even worse, it was carried over form an old Macbook pro.

Thank you!

I hope so or they should allow people to use the older versions or upgrade for free, lets see what happens after I upgrade to Maverick.

Extensis compatibility

Looks like Suitcase *may* not work on 10.9:

Suitcase Fusion
An updated version of Suitcase Fusion 5 will be available in 3-4 weeks that includes OS X Mavericks compatibility. Previous versions of Suitcase Fusion will not be updated, please upgrade to version 5 if you require Mavericks compatibility.

Universal Type Server
An updated Universal Type Client 4 will be available in about a month that supports OS X Mavericks. There are no known issues with the Server running on OS X Mavericks.

Extensis Portfolio
We will be releasing updates to Extensis Portfolio Server and the NetMediaMax add-on by the end of the year, 2013. These updates will include compatibility with OS X Mavericks, Windows 8.1, and Windows 2012 R2.

Think I'll wait until Fusion has definitely been updated.
