I've gotta be more transparent though, I don't have a stock configuration on my MBP. Over the years I have added 8 GB RAM and a 128GB SSD in the HD bay and a 750 GB HDD in the DVD drive bay.

ML still was a drag.
crap, well I plan on upgrading to a SSD but may leave the ram at 4GB. not sure yet? We'll see how well Mavericks works without an SSD.

1/4 th downloaded, I can't believe they are giving it away for free, both my iPhone and iPad are updating right now.

Well, I am at college here in Spain and Microsoft gives free copies of Windows 8.1 Pro through DreamSpark to all students, so I'm happy with both companies :)

Download complete, installing, suckers! See you on the other side. BTW, it does leave the installer app, but I was unable to copy it to an 8 GB USB flash drive because it said the format (I assume DOS FAT32) doesn't support the file size.

Good to know, I will copy it and try to install it on an Air.

And I bought mountain lion because I messed up my mac so when I restored it , it had lion so I had to purchase mountain lion... Not mad about it at all though.

We all know apple sets arbitrary limits as to what's "acceptable" for their software updates. I didn't expect this to work since I couldn't install ML, but when they said computers all the way back from SL would be able to, I had a little bit of hope.

I plan on getting a new laptop anyways, so I would just be trying it out until the new one gets here.

It will be that much sweeter when you get that new mac and will be running as efficient as possible giving you the best experience :D

To anyone, who still needs confirmation - the version from MAS is build 13A603.
(just finished with the installation, which took more time than the download  )

Why didn't you just save your money and download OS X Mavericks GM v2 build. SMH!

i thought they weren't allowed to release free upgrades?
(this was the argument for the 20$ a few years back..!)

IIRC, they said at the time they had to charge for the upgrade because how the development expense was accounted for. They may have changed the accounting allowing them more flexibility. Just speculating.
