Did anyone hear a confirmation of what the oldest hardware capable of running Mavericks might be??

I've got a black Macbook running 10.6.8 (the terminal OS for this system) that I'd love to upgrade while I decide which new iMac desktop to buy...

Weird, I'm singed in as some Ukranian dude. I just locked his account. Ooops. Downloading fine on my other Mac though.

How much ram are you running. Debating about upgrading my mid '09 mbp. Then again I am debating about getting one of the new rmbp's too lol

I would love a rMBP but way out of my price range. I'm running 4GB of ram right now. I want to upgrade to an SSD and possibly 8GB of ram but don't do much other than casual use of my MBP. Current MBP takes about a minute or more sometimes to boot.

I may wait to download Mavericks this weekend and see how it's running for everyone.

so the people with gm 1 version should first download it from app store and then click installation and will be ok?

Will this break BootCamp?

Does anyone know if doing a simple upgrade on this will break an existing BootCamp install? I know clean installs always cause problems, but will an upgrade allow me to keep my existing BootCamp partition in place without having to reformat and reinstall my Windows 7 setup?

Is there a way to only have to download this once and put it on a USB drive. I have 5 Macs here that would take 26gb of download time if I did them one by one.

The installer app should appear in your Applications folder. Just make a copy of it before running the installer, it deletes itself afterwards.

no dice, you can run the mod ML version, check the thread in the forum if you want.

Mid 2007 imac upgradable

I think I have a mid 2007 iMac. Based on something I read earlier, I thought that I was going to miss out on the Mavericks upgrade because my iMac was too old. Kind of anxious to get home to see if I can actually get it.

I knew this was going to happen :D

Along with free iWork and iLife it undermines Microsoft's business model. The only down side is for developers. There is now more of an expectation of free.

Well it's all under the same house. Apple is all about a cohesive computing experience. It only makes sense that they offer the software free on their machines. It allows them to move forward, and not worry about the past. The developers of software are just as integral as the hardware people, and shouldn't be judged/rated based on sales.

In the same vein, it executes planned obsolescence. This isn't necessarily bad or good in my eyes. Apple makes amazing products that will last a long time. It doesn't matter if people upgrade or not, but if softwares free, that's one less obstacle for consumers to consider upgrading.

Apple is trying to take over as the dominating desktop OS, like they are with iOS on mobile. It will be critical to offer software like iWork, and iLife as free packages too make OSX as prominent as possible creating an Apple Eco System. For your casual consumers, the only reason consumers are using MS Word and Excel is legacy work/office places filled with PC's. But with the advent of cloud computing and increased Apple adopter, I can see iWork being the standard.

Sorry that wasn't all directed at you, I just started writing stuff...

Getting quite good speeds to say every ****er in the world is downloading. 2.84 MB / sec. They must have some crazy ass multicast servers darted around the world.

Current status

Download took about 20 minutes. Then there is a prep step that took about a minute. The install brgan at 12:24pm pdt And i just saw that the estimated install time is, in fact, 45 minutes.....time for lunch.

I'll update as things progress. Btw i am not expexting any issues with the install as I've already installed a GM version on an external firewire 800 drive about 3 weeks ago. It made my 5 year old mbp forget how slow lion and mountain made it perform in years past.

Had lunch and the install completed in 44 minutes.

So plan a full hour for the download and install process. Don't forget to run disk utility before and verify the disk and fix permissions. And, of course, run a backup before you begin.
