There is a supplemental update for Mountain Lion should that be done before a Mavericks update?

since it is free...just hit the appstore on each machine.

You can, but at 5.3 GB each download, that can add up and potentially bust your monthly data cap (if you are a sucker like me in the US at the mercy of douchebag cablecos). My cap is 200 GB per month, but I know some are even lower. So if I upgraded 4 machines separately, that would eat up 10% of my monthly cap. And anyone who watches a lot of Netflix is probably already using a lot of data.

100 Gigabit... so you live directly at the backbone of the internet? :p

I have a 150Mbit line, usually takes me 5 min for 5GB, depending if the server supports my full 150Mbit.

Currently with Apple servers overloaded, it says 22hours remaining :p

My download just finished @ 100 Mbps Internet. Funny how that works with server loads. :/

Is there a way to only have to download this once and put it on a USB drive. I have 5 Macs here that would take 26gb of download time if I did them one by one.

Yes. Download it and then copy it from your Applications folder before you run it. Once it's run and the machine is upgraded, it removes itself (hence copying before running)

good to hear, my mid 09 MBP was running slow on ML.

I've gotta be more transparent though, I don't have a stock configuration on my MBP. Over the years I have added 8 GB RAM and a 128GB SSD in the HD bay and a 750 GB HDD in the DVD drive bay.

ML still was a drag.

Printing? I last did that a little over 2 years ago. I trying to remove as much paper from my life as I can, but while I've replaced mail with email, and I read books and magazines on my iPhone and iPad, they're not ideal for wiping my behind.

so you think printing to paper is obsolete? If your printer no longer works after the upgrade...no problem...Right?

Downloaded and completing the install in 7 minutes, so it says.... Will start taking it for a spin shortly! :D Shoot me now, I forgot to track how long it took as I was working while it downloading. I'm running a 2013 MBA 13" 1.7, 512 HD and 8 GB memory.

Has anyone installed it yet? What's the build number?

I've downloaded it and checked the install ESD.dmg's checksum. It is the same as the GM2 Seed Build 13A603.

download done, it's unpacking :D:D:D:D:D

Update: it's RESTARTING
Update to the Update: system restarted and installing

Clean install is 100% unnecessary

Especially since a "clean install" has never been one of the OSX install options. It's a fiction.

Anyway, the How to Upgrade page oddly instructs you to check "More Info" in "About this Mac" to determine if your hardware is eligible. Unfortunately this info is not actually available in that location. To find out if your iMac 7,1 is a "mid-2007" model you have look it up somewhere else, such as MacTracker.

Download complete, installing, suckers! See you on the other side. BTW, it does leave the installer app, but I was unable to copy it to an 8 GB USB flash drive because it said the format (I assume DOS FAT32) doesn't support the file size.

If the MacOS ran all iOS apps and Classic PPC/68K apps then I would be impressed. Legacy support and cross device support is a critical need that Apple's missing.

Just go to the app store and install Mavericks.

Yeah people way over thinking this. I went to App Store, searched for "Mavericks" , clicked on free then clicked on "install".

People trying to outsmart the process using twenty year old os management procedures are just making life hard on themselves.

This os was designed from the ground up to be installed as an upgrade.

Sucks, when they said you would be able to upgrade all the way from SL, i thought my laptop would be supported...however, its not :(

late 2006 MBP

That's 7 Years ago! Why are people expecting to update machines from over more than half a decade and why would you want to? Modern software is optimized for modern machines. If you could install it, you'll probably just run into more problems than benefits.

Nothing against older machines, but there's a certain point where you the benefits of the new software can't keep up with old hardware, which leads to a bad experience.
