I think I just figured out the iCloud folder confusion.

If you tag a file with the iCloud tag it will show up in the iCloud tag in the finder sidebar. Any subsequent file saved to iCloud will also show up in the iCloud tag in the Finder sidebar.

Well done! Quick question, if you tag a file with the iCloud tag, which happens to be in your local documents folder, will it automatically sync that file up to iCloud in the respective application?

why does it matter if they didn't watch the keynote? people have jobs and other things to do besides sit on their asses and watch a keynote. don't hate on someone just because they didn't watch a keynote

You call that "hate"?

And for your information I watched the keynote at work while standing up. So HA!

Doesn't appear to do that yet. I'm guessing it will in an upcoming new build.

Keep in mind iWork in iCloud is still beta.

and late 2007 or later 17-inch Pros

Mountain Lion supports the Mid 2007 17-inch MacBook Pro. Does anyone know why Mavericks drops this support and starts with the Late 2007? Wikipedia says they're both identified as MacBookPro3,1. The only differences appear to be an option for a 2.6GHz CPU and slightly faster/larger hard drive options.

Has anyone actually tried Mavericks on a Mid 2007 17-inch?

I like the new functionality of notifications, but I liked the notification center better, because it's more discreet, hopefully they'll bring it back without the skuemorphic linen. The current incarnation is not much different from the obnoxious Facebook chatheads.

Really happy that my Late 2008 uMBP is still going to be supported (from what we can tell). Been a great system so far and would love to keep it in my current rotation as long as possible.

Out of all the things Apple announced at WWDC, my favorite was Mavericks. I'm definitely looking forward to this release!

You can write iMessages from notification center.

Also, iMessages is broken and won't work...

Why is the OS name plural anyway? OS X releases have always had singular names... Tiger, Panther, Lion, Leopard, etc... now... Mavericks?

OS X Maverick would have sounded nicer.

Also, moving from felines to livestock? Kind of a downgrade I think...
Because Mavericks is the name of a location.

Does Notes allow searches?

Does the Notes.app now allow you to search within a note? Some of my notes are rather long and it's a pain that I have to "share" it to Mail.app in order to have a Search/Find function within the note.

Legacy support into the future is critical. Support for Classic/68K/PPC would bring a lot of users of old hardware up to the new hardware and OS.
Somehow I doubt there are a lot of Mac OS 8 users with 680X0 machines out there. If you haven't upgraded your computer in 19 years, I doubt Mac OS 10.9 is what you have been holding out for.

i'm disappointed in most part...but there are few things in this osx that might get my attention.

Siri cannot be offline because processing of your speech is done server side. It's impractical to make "her" offline, because doing it server side make her smarter and apple can make updates without requiring you to download something, same story with Maps.

Dictation.

2 screen support!

I use a 23" Apple monitor with my 15" MacBook Pro. I LOVE some of the new announced features, where I can do separate scrolling on each monitor, and going full screen on one doesn't black out the other.

That's great, but now they need Spotlight to be more efficient :p
(JK, it always runs a lot when first indexing and is fine after.)

And being serious, this looks really, really cool.

iMessage is not broken. You have to open up Messages and enable your iMessage account.

I did that, rebooted twice and had no luck. After a while I had pop up to set up a new iCloud account, signed into the old account and it worked.

The power improvements look great. The Skeuomorphism is neither here nor there. Most of all we need legacy support for older machines, they should be able to go back further than 2007.

Really? Support for computers older than 6 years??! Id be surprised if all the bits haven't fallen off on a 7 year old computer - man I lived a different life in 2007, I think I've been through about 5 Macbook Pro's and a Macbook Air since then!
