I think it makes sence in the Dock.. But the Main menus should remain white.

I agree. The Dock is like a HUD look... so it should have HUD-like menus. The menu bar is completely different. I wouldn't want black menus everywhere but they match the 2D Dock just fine.

If you already have an account at the apple store, they will send you an e-Mail about it. The only bad thing about getting the very first version is that there's lots of updates to download every time you install the OS.

I can't decide whether I'm going to get the $10 upgrade for my 13" MBP or buy the family pack to upgrade my Mac Mini, too.

Unless they've changed it in Snow Leopard, both are the same product, just a different price and different fine print in the legal notice. So you can go right ahead and use that single $10 upgrade on both computers.

... :( stupid world of digital media pirating is corrupting my morals. Go be an honest person and buy the family pack. I'll just keep pondering whether I should delete my pirated music or not...

They quickly fixed up the lighter translucent border. The edging width is consistent all the way round, the corners are smoothly rounded and they got rid of the lump on the right side of the pointing triangle. I love this attention to detail and polish.

I prefer the current Leopard unbolded, larger font they reverted to.

LOL. no, you shouldn't delete it. You have already done the "crime", as it were. If you are caught, it doesn't matter if you deleted it. Might as well just hold on to it, enjoy the music, and support the bands by going to their shows or buying their music in the future if that helps your conscience feel any better about itself.

And yes, the only thing keeping you from using that upgrade on both is your moral compass. In other words, it's up to you. I must say that I really like the "trust begets trust" idea that Apple has regarding licensing for most of their software... In fact, OSX is about the only OS/software I willingly pay for, and I think it has something to do with how nice they are about the licenses (that and it is actually high quality software that I use every single day)...

I've actually begun the process of "upgrading" my music through iTunes ever since they switched to a drm-free format. I have found that more often than not, the sound quality is far superior than a crummy mp3 from limewire.

On the flipside, the rendering of numbers looks awkward, squashed in this QTX interface.

edit: looks fine in this picture (lower) Mk2 posted. The longer volume slider is better but I don't recognise the four squares icon.

The web browser QTX timeline has weird 'ear' shaped rounded ends and the small placement marker looks bad overlapping light grey at the start/end. I think it's too small and may just be better round like the volume marker.

It's probably the difference between using Automatic font smoothing or using Standard font smoothing in System Preferences>Appearance

I always prefer Standard because it doesn't make all the fonts bold.

According to others there's only options for font smoothing on/off in Snow Leopard.

Which is strange because Leopard has no option for OFF. You probably have to dig into Terminal for that.

Awe... I hope not! I don't wanna be forced to use LCD font smoothing... I think it looks like crap! I really hope you're wrong about that.

I think/hope that is a mistake - i suspect that the bar is a few pixels to low and thick.

Also - i don't like the small pause button and how it pauses a video when you change the part of a video using the scrubber bar

QTX - does seem to be running even faster though, esp. with HD film.

I'm so glad that they are going with a charcoal/black look. It feels very Pro App. Good work!

QTX looks weird. The numbers are bright white but the buttons are a light gray. I noticed it right away and now it really bothers me. I looks like something i'd see in a junky Gnome theme.

I love it too, but i'd rather see it across the whole OS instead of just a handful of arbitrarily designated apps.

No assign application to space

So color me confused, but what happened to my ability to right click on an application on the dock and choose "Assign application to space" I thought I had it at one point, anyone else have it and now missing it?

I love the new QTX controller. Much more streamlined than before. I hope they bring it also into iTunes for consistency.

SAME.

I really hope iTunes is reworked at least visually, if not completely. It's the only application that feels slow to me.

You are not forced to use LCD font smoothing, and there is no option to turn of font smoothing entirely. There is a single option to turn LCD font smoothing on or off. If you turn it off you get the "Standard - best for CRT" option, as far as I can tell. In short they've just removed the "Light" and "Strong" options.

Im getting lots and lots of crashes with this new build. Applications that used to run great now simply crash for no reason. Most web browsers will crash on me if i try to upload a file or picture. Just wondering if anyone else is getting this.

Running: Macbook Pro Unibody - 2.4GHZ 2GB RAM

This makes a lot more sense.

Something else small that bothered me before Leopard released and to this day is the off-center button graphics. On the left is the Finder previous/next buttons and on the right the correctly centered buttons in Safari.

You're right! I wish I could just "unsee" that, now I can't avoid noticing it in Finder windows... :p

Silly question about snow leopard

I haven't seen people really discuss this, but has front row been improved? With the new quicktime development, is it now possible to play videos with subtitles (with srt files) in front row?

Thanks.

The new overlay in QuickTime X looks very nice and clean :) Even more hope that "Marble" will show up in Snow Leopard! :D I just hope they will make these changes across the board and NOT all mismatched like everything UI is in Leopard now! :(

I'm guessing this bothers you then too:

Inactive Window Using Graphite Theme: Look at the button on the right.

Inactive Window Using Aqua Theme: All buttons are the same color (the way it should be)
