does 10.6 still leave "._file" files laying around? Yesterday i put some songs on my flash drive to play in my car stereo and had to sort through 30 useless "._songname.mp3" files.

Got a screenshot?

Blue theme is darker but the three buttons are consistent. Onestly the difference is visible only after capturing screenshots, so I suspect that this has to do with the new SL color management system.

SL - Safari TopSites - MacRumors Bug?

Can anyone confirm a bug in Snow Leopard 10A411 / Safari 4.0.3 (TopSites) / MacRumors

Test: Click TopSites button in Safari and select a MacRumors page.

I get vertical lines / artifacts when rendering.

Intel iMac 24" / ATI 2600 HD Pro.

Can anyone confirm?

Some other sites are also producing vertical lines when transition animation occurs. Perhaps a flash / java problem within safari or core animation?!

Working fine for me.

SL / Safari Top Sites

Working fine for me.

@Krafty: Does your MacBook and Mini have the same graphics chip by any chance?

I guess I could always install Safari's prior version to see if the problem is still there but then again it could be and may be and possibly :)rolleyes:) Safari 4.0.3's correctly coded usage of SL's resources. Or the other way around...whew! now I'm confused. I guess we'll see how things go with that in time to come.

No, MacBook has Intel GMA950 & Mini has nVIDIA 9400M. Just tried on both and topsites looked fine to me.

Not yet playing nice with some 3'rd party apps

Not quite sure if SL is striving to be compatible with current software or if its expected that software developers may likely be needing to update their products for SL compatibility. I'd like to hear some comments and ideas on this.

At first, third party preference panes worked perfectly fine for me on 10A411 after not working at all on the previous build. Now, however, every time I try to open a third party preference pane, I keep getting the "To use the 'Perian' preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen." After closing, the app never reopens and upon opening it myself, I'm only presented with the same message and this continues until I choose Cancel on the window.

Anyone else having this issue (its happening with multiple panes, too), or is it just me?

Yes, Menu Meters & iStat aren't working on some machines either (Works on my 06 MacBook, not my 09 Mini). However, I think they're doing what the iStat dev. said in his response to that and are waiting closer to SL release date. There's no point in fixing something that might get jumbled in the next beta build 2 months from initial release.

Hey all, new here. So using SL on a MBP 4,1 I am now finally able to use the 6+4 boot method to get into 64bit mode. Now so far kernel flags have not made booting this way by default work, but that I'm not all that worried about. What confuses me is that my System Profiler says "64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes" but when I type "arch" into the terminal it says "i386" still.. any thoughts.. if I am using the 64 bit kernel, shouldn't it say "x86_64"? Well any thoughts would be welcome.. love the new GUI elements, hope to see them OS wide.. maybe a shiny black menu bar to compliment the new dock contextual menus :)

It's because System Preferences is in 64-bit mode, but 3rd-party plugins are still in 32-bit, so Snow Leopard reboots System Preferences in 32-bit mode, allowing you to use your 3rd-party panels. Growl does it, too.

Bugs and Errors in 10.6 10A411

I've been using Snow Leopard since WWDC '09's GM build, and it's been great to use. I use it on my 2.16GHz 2006 model MacBook Pro, and it's my only OS. :apple:

Everything was fine until 10A411. Now, Safari crashes incessantly. I've switched to FireFox 3.5 for this reason. Safari will crash and give me the reopen dialog, and sometimes it crashes 3-5 times in a row after trying to reopen.

There are also strange, common hangups system wide. I'll switch windows, or scroll in a browser window, or change iTunes/PandoraJam tracks—lots of simple things, and my music will stop and I'll get a beachball for about 5 seconds, then everything suddenly catches up.

This is very annoying, and, like I said, never happened until the 10A411 build. Is anyone else having similar issues? I'm hoping for a quick release of a new build, or I'm going to downgrade to the previous release.

Other than these (slightly major) annoyances, SL looks and feels great. :D

I thought delete-from-stack was finally fixed but it's still not perfect. If after deleting from a stack I open the trash, I don't get the option to "put back" the file I deleted.

Also, I like the black menus on the dock, and I'd love it if apple made this style system-wide, though I preferred the smaller, bold font from the last beta.

Interesting, but I prefer the font in 10A402.

I absolutely agree. 10A402a is much better than this drab Leopard look, on black or otherwise.

I really think the white on black should be across all apps, not just the dock. the CMs would look really cool then. I wonder if the will introduce a black menubar? Hmmm ....

Anyone have a comment on the inverted dock expose menus? Quit on top? What's the deal with that? Why do that when quit is always on the bottom? How many users are going to make the mistake of quitting?

So strange.

I do wish Apple would still be more consistent with its user interface; button tool bar styles included.

QuickTime X Interface: QuickTime X has been updated from version 10.0 (42) to 10.0 (47) and adds a new "glossy black" look to the navigation interface.

Why will the not add "Float on Top" in the menus? Why is it on PC and not on the Mac version?

Time they got that sorted, too.

They should make that a part of Aqua so every app can be pinned on top. Pinning windows on top is one of the most useful window management things i use. Afloat keeps windows above others, but it doesnt work well for me sometimes.

I agree with you quite a bit. It seems that apple is just adding more different GUIs to the mix instead of streamlining anything. Apple is so image conscious yet they are just cramming as many different looks into leopard as possible. I really hope they overhaul everything instead of just a few menus and Quicktime.

Did anyone ever find a solution to this vertical lines issue? A friend of mine has this issue on his iMac (SL 10.6.1, 8800GS GPU) which was bought back in March as a refurb and then upgraded to Snow Leopard a few days after it was released. He did have some issues with some sort of "fishtank" type screen saver which was not working in SL but Apple seem to think it is a graphics card issue and have asked him to bring it to the local store. Given that the vertical lines only affect the safari window and don't spill out into the desktop of other windows it doesn't strike me as a hardware issue. Also, it doesn't appear to be a GPU specific issue as it has been reported on different GPU's. I myself run an ATI 2600Pro on Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and it runs fine.

Thanks,
Craig.
