Apparently I am forgetting something I once knew. How do I monitor the progress of the download (as in, how much, so far, or how-close-to-completion) of Yosemite's installer from the App Store? It just tells me it's "Downloading"... I wanna KNOWWWW! (note thwarted early-adopter behavior and resulting tantrum)

Open Launchpad.

Yeah I'm having issues. Is there anyway to kill the download and delete anything already downloaded? Even if I stop the download I can't get it out of launchpad. I even went into applications and deleted the unfinished Yosemite file. Now I feel like I ruined everything

yes you cand do it just open app store app and from purchase tab hold option key , cancel button appears .

just from App Store app , go to purchase tab

And of course, after waiting over an hour for it to download, it gives me a stupid "download failed" error.

Is there a direct link to the install OUTSIDE of the App Store I can use?

Working like a charm on my early 2014 rMBP. About a 40 minute download and about a 7-8 minute install. Smooth & easy.

Loving it so far. The look is different but welcomed IMO.

:)

I'm using Mavericks. The Yosemite installation file doesn't have an option for fresh install or upgrade. Is this safe; just upgrade? Is it fresh; erasing my files?

Upgrade. It will not erase your existing files or third party applications. Your existing applications will run, but manually check for app updates. It's not like MS Windows where you have to re-install everything from scratch and restore your files. Welcome to sane computers.

Silly question, but every picture of safari in yosemite that i've seen doesn't show a favorites bar - is this still an available option in the new version?

Let's see what everyone moans about first with this free update!

Ah right, so because it's free the user has to stay quiet?

Do you know what pays the developers in the OS X department?
A specific chunk of what you paid for your Mac initially!

Or how do you think Apple laid this one out to its shareholders?

YES. It's much better imo. When you press the address bar at the top, the favorites icons pop out. It takes a day or two to get used to but it saves so much space and really gives you a good "click" feeling when you access them.
