So if Iwork is free, why does the app store say I need to buy it?. Will that change after I install Yosemite?

Epic! All this nice integration between Mac OS X and iOS makes me glad I chose the right ecosystem. :)
Windows 8 does more and Windows 10 will do much more. I can buy a new computer and put in a password and everything is the same, also on a tablet, and soon the phone.

So my heavy 3d animation programs and my whole Adobe CS collection will just show up on my tablet or phone with windows 10? ;) Wow useful

As you are a very busy poster on this forum, I wonder if you actually ever used an Apple product, you seem to think that you know a lot about other companies' offerings, but amazingly little about Apple's products and services.

upto 16 hours now. yay!

even did a speed test on my computer just to see if my isp was being slow....tested at 45 megs.

I wonder why some people can download so quick and mine is taking forever.

I cancelled the download and tried again...still very slow.

Sorry, I'm confused (and on very limited bandwidth).

I'm in PB6 but there is no update available. It sounds like I have to download the free installer (5GB worth) - but people are saying that they get an "already installed" message when they try and run it?

I assume then that 10.10.1, when that is released, will update PB6 to... 10.10.1 as thought PB6 was the final version?

Not sure what I'm supposed to be doing here.

The "Already installed" message is just a generic message saying that you already have Yosemite installed, disregarding what build you have). Those who are already running a GM or PB version should wait for the incremental update instead.

Tada!

Got the whole thing in less than 10 minutes. Thank you, Comcast....(ok, kill me now. I actually said thanks to Comcast.....)

Damn straight. OS X could only wish to be half the amazing OS that Windows 8 and Windows 10 are. Apple is at least 10-15 years behind Windows. ;)

Curious why Yosemite isn't showing on the front page (or in Featured) on the App Store yet. If I recall, Lion onwards were front and centre as soon as they were released. I can search for it and find it but if I didn't know it was out I wouldn't know about it.

Wonder if it's Apple's way of easing the server load? Let the people who follow this stuff get it before the non tech news following folk?

I have to admit, I was really impressed by Windows 9. No bugs at all!!

went from 30 minutes to 8 in about 1 minute.Gotta love FIOS(sometimes)

So, what are you doing here?
I'm sorry, I didn't know everyone had to have the same opinion. The reason is that I have a Mac with Windows 8 on Bootcamp, and all the settings came over from my main computer flawlessly. I'm sure Apple will copy that soon.

I didn't notice that OSX kept the same settings as my iPad Air or vice versa.

Thats my guess....keep it "hidden" for a little bit while us nerds hammer the servers.

HOWTO: Create Bootable Flash Drive

After installer successfully downloaded to Applications folder, steps to create a bootable flash drive:

1. Use Disk Utility to erase flash drive (8 GB min), leave drive as "Untitled"
2. Open Terminal window

Code:
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app --nointeraction
