Failed download multiple times. Still don't have Yosemite on my machine

Kind of a mess, sadly

Now perhaps this is/was due to an install issue, not sure, but...

I'm seeing a lot of sloppy/buggy behavior. Processes dying, not restarting, apps being unresponsive and crashing, ick. I filed 5 feedback reports in quick succession and can probably file another 10 but I have things to do at the moment.

The combination of bad performance and the new look & feel is frankly jarring.

(Before people start in: I'm an Apple Developer. I've designed, written, tested and deployed software for a really really long time now. Yes, I know this is a beta. It's still jarring.)

I'm really hoping something was botched with the install and/or there are a just a handful of key issues that will get resolved and fix other, knock-on type issues.

I'll keep filing issues when I can but I can't say that I'm not disappointed.

Yes, I know it's a beta, and yes I know *exactly* what that means.

Core Storage

Does anyone know why Apple defaulted to creating a "Logical Volume Group" when I created a new partition to install this? Now it seems that I can't undo this partition if I even wanted to. It also created a partition too large so I resized it, and now I have 65 GB free that I can't add back to my main one

To remove the Logical Volume

First use

diskutil cs list

Then look for the disk identifier of the logical volume itself (not the physical), which should be "disk1" or "disk2"

Then do

diskutil cd revert “yourdiskname'

Just installed it on a separate partition on my Air and it is looking good. Dark mode enabled as well. :) Oh, and this is posted from Yosemite! :D

Download Help

I downloaded the beta (5.3gb) and I see the download in my downloads on my iMac but it's just a grayed out button that says DOWNLOADED. I can't install it. Any advice?

Had a "download fail" message during download. Turns out my Ethernet cable decided to fail right at that moment! (I couldn't even connect to my router)

This might take a little longer than I anticipated:

So your double negative actually means that you are elated and love it.

Running Yosemite on my main Mac right now and it's wonderful. I honestly don't understand the problems people are having or why people don't like it.

Thanks for pointing out a missing word.

Would you have been as prickly in person, or are you just hiding behind the internet?

Bummer

Was just a couple hundred MB away from having the beta downloaded when I received an error and now have to download the whole thing again! Oh well, hopefully this ones a go!

My download keeps randomly starting over and then eventually failing! Why, I don't understand why it works for some and others it fails every time.

Can someone explain the back end process that Apple is using?

I feel like if it was just a traffic issue than everyone would have some failures and then it would eventually work. It seems like either it fails every time or it works on the first try.

One thing that was true initially back when I installed DP1 was an incompatibility with some component of Parallels (their remote access software or some such) and a lot of us got our responsiveness back by removing this (Parallels itself was reasonably OK). Do you have Parallels installed by chance?

Performance is excellent on DP4.

Went over and over to get a functional code, no luck, I only requested the code yesterday. So I rebooted and tried again at the Beta page, and it worked and started downloading. I got about 4/5 of the way thru the download and chickened out. I only have the one computer and if something goes squirrelly I don't want to try cleaning it up, I'm legally blind and seeing things isn't as easy as say 2 years ago. I'll wait for the official release.
Good luck to all of you who DO get it installed !!
