I'm inclined to wait til 10.11 comes out to upgrade to 10.10.

That way I can just enjoy the fully mature release of it.

Eh, I do the same, but it's all relative. I install new OS X releases as soon as they are officially out, and a colleague of mine calls me reckless because of that. There are still bugs to iron out, possible incompatibilities...

He's still on Mountain Lion.

So smooth

I saw that it had been released, redeemed, and downloaded it all within about 45 minutes. Then, the install took around another 45 minutes. I have been using it for about 2-3 hours, and it has had zero hiccups after doing all of the initial set up stuff.
If you choose to encrypt at the file vault screen, your set up may stall/freeze. Just give her the ole force shut down, and it will boot right up.
Also, if you're wondering where iTunes 12 is, open the app store and update.

Summary: Don't be scared. It's awesome (especially if you're also running iOS 8 beta).

can you try photoshop, after effects , if you have them please ?
The CC Suite works perfectly fine. Can't try After Effects though (but Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are alright).

I have Problems with Matlab (r2013a) and Mathematica though (I can't install Java).

Really? Took me 20 minutes from first logging on to the Yosemite start screen.

And I have a cMBP with a 5400rpm drive!

What issues did you have installing it?
I installed Yosemite before, took almost as long. Back then I was pretty worried that my mac is dead, I read that an Installation of Miktex is known to cause such problems.

3 Machines and 3 accounts later still can't get it to download.....

I have a fast connection 300/50 and was able to download other updates/apps from the App Store

I've been trying to download it ALL DAY, starting at about 10:00 PDT this morning, and I've failed maybe close to 100 times now. I get to about 2GB downloaded, then it fails.

I've been in the same boat as both of you Jons! Download keeps failing! ARGH!!

Really sorry to hear about those having issues.

I checked macrumors at ~1pm EST and followed the link with no issues. Thankfully my download worked (although it took forever) and I'm installing now. A clean install on an external drive. So far the progress bar says I have 9 min to go. Excited!

I plan to give Apple lots of feedback. Hopefully they will do this public beta with future releases. I love the idea of having at least a chance of input into a product I depend on every day :D

Does anyone know if this will work same as Mavericks as far as being able to download Yosemite without installing it on the computer that is used for downloading?

I want to install it on a separate external drive for testing before deploying it as a main operating system an any of my computers.

Instant DDoS

It's amazing! Wrap a new version of Mac OS in a public beta and watch where you point the death ray of IP traffic. Akamai must be sweating bullets!

Issue--- anyone got a solution

I've tried to download the OS and got an error a half a dozen times. Then I reboot the computer and went back to the app store 'purchased' area and the button to download Yosemite is not highlighted and all I see is ERROR in DOWNLOAD in red next to the button. Yes, I've tried to click the button to relaunch the download but it is does not work.

Suggestions?

100 Times! If I'm ever in an emergency where I need someone really tenacious, I know who to call. On the other hand, if I need someone who realizes it may be best to set aside a task till, say, the next day when it'll be far easier, I may have to call someone else.

Won't install on external drive. At least not the last few.

Edit: and no it wouldn't make a stick either, nor a parallels vm.

Maybe not so according to what's above.

I am getting a blank screen with the spinning circle after restarting for the installation.... any ideas??

lately I've noticed it getting past 2 gb then suddenly restarts all over again:mad:

Is this from your home network or a work network? I ask because where I used to work, there was a cap on download sizes of roughly 2 GB (a somewhat antiquated IT department). I'd get to 2GB (in my case) and it would stop...

home, we have great wifi too...

Boot into your Recovery partition via command + R when rebooting and then you can use Disk Utility from that to erase the Yosemite partition. You can then resize the main partition back to its full size, and then boot back into your system.

Thanks, that worked. Is there a way I can create a separate partition for Yosemite, but not have what happened happen? I'm not sure why it defaulted to a logical volume group
