A friend says the rubber home button damages the face of the iPhone after a while.
Anyone seen this problem?

Because some people care more about keeping the phone in one piece and easily resellable than letting everyone know they have an iphone.

Unless you're going to play ball with your phone I don't think anyone needs a case that big

And that's completely fine. There's nothing wrong with that opinion.

But it's just that - an opinion.

Just like some people's opinion that a Defender is the only way to go, like my wife.

not sure how that would be possible. on the new defender there is only a tiny little nub that actually makes contact with the button. not an issue for me as i put a little round home button skin protector on it. and have a skin on the rest of the phone. but i don't see the case causing any more damage than a finger if any damage at all.

I just picked up a new Defender, and I have no problems with it. I did notice that some of the ones on the shelf had a raised portion of the rubber case, just above the rear camera hole. It was almost like the hole in the plastic case was too tall and it was pushing up on the rubber. The one I bought wasn't like this, so it could be that those others were from an earlier production run. Maybe it is possible that that same batch of cases may be presenting the rattle and sensitivity issues.

I took out the built-in screen protector and noticed that the case made four indentations on the screen, so I returned it. Luckily for me I had a screen protector on the actual screen so no damage was done outside of the $40 ghost armor protector going to waste.

This is why I'll not use a defender again. The stupid idea of hard plastic directly on the phone caused indentations and scratches on my iphone 4 screen.

Get an incipio dualpro. Soft layer on the INSIDE making contact with the phone, and hard plastic on the outside.

I have defenders on all of my phones and I have never had a mark on any screen

The amount of money you spend on that HIDEOUS ENORMOUS case is probably more than the price differential you'll see on resale. The iPhone was designed to be used as it is, not covered up like an armored car. If you're so concerned about damage, get AppleCare+. And as far as wanting people to know I have an iPhone goes (by the way, what's that circle cut out on the back of the case for?) what do you think people think when you whip out that monstrosity? They probably think, "wow, why would someone buy such a nice looking phone, only to wrap it in a tractor tire?"

Look closer. It's damaging the glass.

People use cases to avoid downtime of a broken phone and being stranded in an emergency. Obviously, you've never thought of such a thing.

I went to my ATT store today to try on another defender in the same color.... the rep put 4 different ones on my phone.... all of them had poor screen protectors and still made my phone rattle around... might just go to the incipio dualpro shine...

Wirelessly posted

I have no fit issues at all, very solid, and I'm on my second Defender for the iPhone 5. Why second? Because I just returned my first one because the rubber got damaged from the holster clip, causing it to fray pretty bad after 1 day of use. The AT&T guy told me to pull the tab over to the clip instead of pushing it in, but I shouldn't have to do that every time I clip and un clip the phone from the holster.

really ATT told me they would not take it back and I needed to go thru Otterbox..

Otterbox stated they could not help me until Oct 21st... A little lame. I noticed if you keep the screen facing out the phone goes in smoothly, but facing in it tends to catch on the clip and fray.

AT&T has a 1 year warranty on their accessories

I just got my defender yesterday. The AT&T sales rep was nice enough to offer a mix/match with all the different defender colors, so I have a blue inlay with a black bumper...pretty nice.

I noticed the same lack of sensitivity on the touch screen. Upon further inspection it appears there is no static bond from the protector to the screen, so gaps of air will nullify the detection of touch. It was very simple to take out, it's only kept on with an elastic glue. I'll be getting a PS protector when they come out just to be on the safe side.

The slim iPhone 5 does not feel right in my hand...like it's going to take a dive as soon as I look away. I don't mind the bulkiness of the defender because it rounds the shape out for my hand. Also, I tend to drop my iPhone 4...I'm a self-admitted klutz when it comes to phones. Just last week I had the iphone sitting on an easel. I turned my head a bit to far and the headphone cable yanked the iphone right off the easel. It was about a 3.5' fall, and as usual the contour case held up...well kind of. It's seen a few years of falls and the lock hinge just detached itself yesterday. Still functions as it should, just gotta be careful opening the case.

For me there is real physical evidence that calls for a heavy duty case. I don't like the look of it any more than most people, but function comes first. I will probably match it with form when the Lunatik hits the market (if it ever hits the market), but this case will do in the meantime.

And that's fine.

As I said to the other poster (maybe it was even you, I didn't look back), it's just a matter of opinion. You don't like/use them? Fine. Why are you posting in a thread about them?

Anyone know how to contact the CEO? When I got my iPad in march, i bought a case from Zagg that didn't fit. I contacted customer care and they said nothing... SO I emailed the CEO about it, saying if I did not get a response I would report them to the BBB for false marketing. They responded, sent me two free cases that fit, and a free invisible shield.

Bottom line, if we can contact the otterbox CEO, we may be in luck...

How do you use that case? It makes the iphone look like a brick. What's the point of Apple's hard work in making the phone slimmer when you are going to just make it look a big piece of S!?#

Because I want my phone to last, I have it for what it does more than what it looks like, and I appreciate apple making it so thin so I can have a durable case without it poaching the size of a small dictionary :p

I preordered a Otterbox Defender for my ip5. This is my 2nd Otterbox Defender. I like the latest one. The outer layer is much better than the previous one.

My ip5 fits quite snug in the case. The screen sensitivity is the same. I have noticed no difference with regard to that. The Otterbox Defender fits my needs perfectly. It's not for everyone. YMMV

Never had any damage on any of my cell phones screens at all and I always get defender cases and I am very OCD when it comes to phones. I also never had any complaints from the phones that I flip on ebay either

I haven't had any issues w/ my Defender on the 5. Screen is slightly less sensitive but no worse than the Defender I had on my 4S, and not really noticeable enough to bother me. I wouldn't have even noticed it if I hadn't gone a week "naked" waiting for the case to get here.

Sorry to hear some of you are having issues. I'm a huge Otterbox fan so hopefully they'll take care of you. I'm guessing there was some issues trying to rush the product out.

Try having it on you when building homes or doing demolition work. Hunting, fishing, motor cross, hiking mountain climbing. There are some people who do need it. You don't have to play ball with it. Not all iPhone users are white collar. And even white collar workers are involved in rough activities.

And some people are just plain clumsy. My wife dropped and shattered the front screen on two 4S's before finally getting an Otterbox.

I like mine because A) it won't scratch, thus preserving resale value, B) it won't break if I drop it, C) I actually like the added bulk, it's more comfortable to hold IMO and makes it less likely that I'll forget it somewhere.

My replacement is coming tomorrow. I contacted Otterbox about the loose fit and they told me to go through Amazon to get a replacement so they're sending one out and I just have to return the old one. Hopefully this one fits without issue.
