Our MBP is stranded in ShangHai thread [UK/Eu]

CTO Tracking?

Hi,

This is my first post but I've been lurking around since January. I seem destined to never get a new MBP!

I've just been speaking to the Apple Store in the UK. They claim it is not possible to track custom built machines until they arrive in the UK. Is this true? I've noticed some of you appear to know where your machine is, to some extent (i.e. Shanghai or Cologne), but I can't find anything like this out.

Any tips on this?

I've just spoken to UPS - Even if it does make it to Denmark today, I'm not allowed to come and pick it up, because they have to try to deliver it first. That won't happen until monday, where I'm at work. That's FU***D up.

Try to get UPS to change the delivery address to your work address, I got them to do that one time before!

Which is weird as I did not get a departure scan from Stanstead. That M11 and M25 traffic is a so and so in the morning poor drivers.

I've read that the widget is apt to lag behind but I've not used it.

Anyway, better get on with some work and leave this thread in peace. Good luck with those deliveries people!
 
Having done some thinking here... I am still not 100% certain that my CTO arrived in the UK... most of the tracking info for parcels already in the UK show early origin scans in shanghai.

i.e.

SHANGHAI, CN 04/16/2010 12:21 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN

and I've received my mail only at 16:47 BST on the 16th which would be around 9:47p Shanghai Time... so probably after cut-off... there is however still a chance that it is on the flight to Europe now.

Fingers crossed.
 
Finally.... it has left Shanghai!

Go to the US apple store, login and track your order. There should be a code starting 1Z.
Use this on the UPS website to track your order...

Mine is out for delivery... pretty good service from UPS once it got moving.

Unfortunately I am at work and the missus is out all day, so I might try and get it from the depot tomorrow. I left a note on the door asking them to leave it with a neighbour but I am not sure if UPS do that or not.
 
I think the "natural disaster" and "bad weather" statuses are there because of a backlog of parcels, UPS have to put something on their tracking systems. I guess they don't have a "massive backlog of parcels because of volcano which although is allowing flights, we only have so many aircraft" button

But its still very cold, I let it warm up a little before I'll start.
Have to go to the dentist now anyways...wish me luck :eek:

Again .. same here :) Also at work.

EDIT: DELIVERED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) My girlfriend was at home :)
 
Just to cover a few questions out there, if I can help:

- No, UPS do not deliver on Saturdays for Apple. Having said this, with the backlog they must have, you never really know if they are going to change this exceptionally. Mac's that left Shanghai yesterday (mine included) arrived this morning and are OUT FOR DELIVERY - this is 24hrs before usual time so anything could happen.
- No, UPS do not allow pickups (I have tried this before). Packages are in locked vans - no one can access them until delivery time.
- sp3ctre: If you are the impatient type, be careful, as you might end up having to wait until Monday! And I know how waiting all weekend can be very frustrating :p Having said this, UPS once delivered my Macbook to my neighbour - without me asking! I had no idea where it was, luckily I went and asked just in case and it was there... But as far as I know, Apple packages are secured more than others - I guess it depends on the delivery guy!

Does anybody know what days/times ups flies cologne to uk?

do they do sat/sunday, and do they do monday morning?

As far as I know, the planes go from Cologne -> UK in the morning around 3-4ish. And they go straight OUT FOR DELIVERY when they arrive (if weekday, not Sat & Sun). See my post just above for more info about Sat.

WTF, when was your origin scan? Perhaps this is still on the way and natural disaster relates to the delay? I have the same details as you but no new 'natural disaster' on my ups page ( as of yet :rolleyes:)
I was just told that they are on a flight into cologne..

it went from in-transtin for delivery cologne to natural disaster in shanghai
thats awkward so it's still in shanghai or ...?

LOL, fingers crossed... at least I know it is close though, so it has to come soon, even if it is not today.
