This story does not tell us much really. Over 500K iPads sold? That's what they told us after two days of sales.

Actually that was what some annalist said... not Apple. Apple is happy to tell everyone how much hardwear they sell as long as there doing good and if they don't do it accurate someone would call there bluff.

A kid had one of my classes, I showed him my msi wind running OS X and he **** a brick, quickly realizing his mistake.

Oh, you mean I should believe the same Apple, which faked NYT web pages during the unveiling of the iPad, to hide the fact that it cannot show Flash content?

That's not quite correct. During the unveiling the flash "blue lego brick" was clearly visible. The "screw up" was in a website video that showed a static image where the NYT normally keeps a flash widget. Nowhere did it say "this is flash," and it was not done by Apple, but by an ad agency (and it's tough to argue anyone noticed, or that it was an intentional attempt to trick people, since apple has been quite clear about it's stance on flash). Further, the NYTimes has an iPad friendly (flashless) version (is it up yet?) and since at most all Apple "said" through that video is "the NY Times will display fine in iPad safari," it's tough to argue that they lied.

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you meant it actually had an effect on sales or that it was so widespread there would be an uproar.

Misunderstood. My bad.

Oh, I am sorry. I thought a problem with weak WiFi is a problem on its own, and not only if it had an effect on sales.... My bad.

I guess Apple has figured that its PR and its shills will keep the sheep from getting too riled up.

But I thought everyone wanted Flash? Why is demand so high for a product that doesn't do Flash??

This must be eating away at Adobe like nothing else.

Can you image what sales would have been like if it had flash? Triple easily IMO.

Where's the uproar, though? It sounds like a software bug that occurs when two wifi networks use the same SSID but different credentials/encryption, and that naturally affects a fairly small number of people and should be expected to be resolved soon by software update. There are some anecdotes of a wavering wifi strength meter which doesn't affect connectivity, and a few other scattered reports. It flared up on the internet for two days, and nothing since. Is this really a widespread problem? It doesn't affect the iPads of two of my friends, but that's obviously a small sample set.

How many jelly beans can you fit in a volkswagon Beetle? I want to test your ability to estimate numbers.

oh my friend that's an easy one. 27 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded down. You can drive I'll sit passenger. and we wont let any of them beans come to the front we can easily fit 240 million in there, since one bean is about 3.372 cubic centimeters. I guess it depends on the model as well. What year did you want to try this on again?
Also it's Volkswagen not Volkswagon. :)

Ugh. I've a MSI Wind with OS X on it and although it's a neat technical trick, it's far from a pleasurable experience. Jobs was right on the netbook. For the types of activities carried out on the iPad, the netbook would be a poor substitute. It's also around twice the weight.

Impressive :)

P.S. You'd think an associate attorney would know how to proof..., since that's all he does for the first year or so..., oh, and shill for Apple, of course :D

I stand corrected on the spelling. However 27 cubic feet is around 700,000 cubic centimeters, no? (2.54 cm per inch, 12 inches per foot. So 3x3x3 feet=36x36x36 inches=90x90x90 cm - some rounding there, of course) If each bean is 3.372 cubic centimeters, you can only fit around 225,000 beans in there.

So you were off by three orders of magnitude - which is about how far off your flash estimate is.

Impressive :)

Cut me some slack - it's a trademark, not a real word (nor is it even English - my error was converting it to semi-English). And I didn't do any proofing my first year.

Who's to blame foe the shortage?

All those people who sit in blog sites and write tech reviews that bagged something they never saw and blamed the device for not multi-tasking, not having Flash.

If there hadn't been such negativity beforehand, maybe Apple would have ensured more on release. :)

If all the people who claimed they didn't want one on these sites HADN'T bought one, maybe we'd all be able to buy one now.

And I'm sick of seeing people throw them in blenders and run over them. Tech abuse - you people don't deserve to afford or get your hands on one. LOL.

Oh well, more time to save... I hope developers extend the intro pricing on iPad apps or the prices come down by the time we can get our hands on them...

That is a LIE!

Next you will try to tell me that the Eiffel tower is not in NYC.

You've got me there! :) Good show! I like that:D

No, it's in Las Vegas, next to the Opera and the Arc de Triomphe.

I'm thinking that the delay is a silver lining for myself. I was hyped up for the IPad during the US release, but now that it's been delayed almost 2 months for Canada, it's giving me time to consider if I should wait until the 2nd gen arrives (I assume in another 10 months). Also want to find out how much the Rogers 3G plans cost. I'll continue to monitor the reviews from the American release and then make my decision. I'm sure my IPod Touch will suffice until then.

O.K. :) I actually like your posts, even though you are an Apple shill. So, what does a first year patent guy do, if not proofing? Photocopying?

(Never mind, the answer is in this forum :D)

It's funny you call me an apple shill. In other threads I'm lambasted as an evil troll (for example, when I post about how evil and inconsistent Apple's various appstore policies are, how the app review process is still broken, how apple needs to support bluray, the fact that there is no good reason for an appstore on ipad, etc.) Since both sides hate me, I must be right.

Your problem is that you speak rationally, and from experience. Those kinds of shenanigans just aren't tolerated on forums. Got it?

No they wouldn't. I took a survey. 39% of people who want an iPad are happy it doesn't have flash. 41% of people who want an iPad don't know what flash is. 20% want flash. Error margin is 4%.

Assuming you used a confidence level of 95% and were sampling a large enough population, an error margin of plus/minus 4% would mean you surveyed about 600 people.

Well done.

Thats exactly how I see it too. I could pick one up (if they are not sold out) when I am in New York at the beginning of May. But chances are I will just wait until they come out here. For me it is more about the apps and if I can be something useful to me beyond just surfing the web. So far it seems as though there are going to be some pretty great programs for it. Right now though I am more inclined to wait until the fall at the very least and use that money to enjoy the summertime. Now that the weather is nice I dont see myself using it all that much anyways.

not trying to nitpick here, but isn't that sandwich actually an innovation, and not an invention? :D

I don't think you can patent or even copyright a recipe, so it doesn't seem like they have an invention.

I would think a better choice would be:
...concocted a sandwhich... which connotes a bringing together of ingredients
...developed a sandwhich... which is probably similar to the corporate kitchen process they used to come up with this
...marketed a sandwhich... which is the real tragedy, as a lot of people at YUM and KFC had to say yes to this.
...ideated a sandwhich... okay I can't even take that seriously
...brought the trends of unhealthy fast food to its horrifying, inevetible, logical conclusion... may God have mercy on us all.

Actually, you can patent a recipe. You can also copyright the written embodiment of a recipe.

hahah...I stand corrected about my shady math my friend. dunno how that happened..
