i'm wondering if i was too cocky in slamming the red sox earlier in the series. congrats in advance and good luck in the world series. i don't think the rays win game seven, they are defeated and lifeless, i've seen this by the braves too many times.
It ain't over till its over! I'm not counting the Sox in the series just yet, your Rays are pretty good, so don't accept defeat just yet. That being said, go Sox!
i just read this thread for the first time today, and a lot of comments were mind boggling. specifically the one saying who cares about these two teams (phillies and rays). Now see that's messed up cuz the only reason anyone gives 2 *****s about the dodgers is because of Manny. The only reason people care about the Sox is because they've been good for so long that so many people have hopped on the bandwagon. To state my case here for Philly, I and countless others have been Phillies fans for years even through the loads of disappointment, so if there's one team + their fans that deserve to be in the world series and get that attention, its us.
Yeah, because the Red Sox have been good for sooo long, the last time we won a pennant prior to 2004 was 1986. Sure, we've made a few playoff appearances, but fans don't generally jump on the bandwagon when you: 1) lose in the first round or 2) lose in the World Series. Those are things that generally may cause some fans to leave. The Sox have been consistently good since about 2003, so for about 5 years. I know a lot of Red Sox fans that are not from Boston, heck I've been a Sox fan for half of my life (which still isn't terribly long compared to some) and I've never even been to Boston. None of the Sox fans I've known or have met have been bandwagon fans, sure there are a few out there from the World Series in 04 and 07, but to say the only reason people care is because they've been good for so long is ridiculous. I've got a professor who has followed the sox for the last 50 years, and they sucked the majority of that time.
Don't get me started on thinking that the Dodgers only have fans because of Manny, the Dodgers, at least in the Los Angeles area (population 12.9 million), were immensely popular before Manny. You can't walk around in any place within a 100 mile radius of Los Angeles and not see someone wearing a Dodger hat or shirt.
Sure, the Phillies deserve to be in the WS, but its not because they haven't won a Series in 28 years, its because they battled their way there. And 28 years isn't that much disappointment, some Red Sox fans waited 86 years to see their team win a Series.
