matt garza your alcs mvp. i love this guy, especially since watching him one hit the marlins back in june.

for the record, i never completely lost faith in the rays, but with the emotions and such, it all got lost in the shuffle. i had a gut feeling about today, and this is the first time i can be okay with the mlb playoffs.

and btw, the price is right. off to beat philly in the world series.

i'm wondering if i was too cocky in slamming the red sox earlier in the series. congrats in advance and good luck in the world series. i don't think the rays win game seven, they are defeated and lifeless, i've seen this by the braves too many times.

yes yes yes!!! should have never doubted the rays...they never give up.

but i commend the sox on a well played series and for never giving up. but the rays are off to the ws. when was the last time a city hosted a world series and super bowl within the same year (within 365 days of each other)?

will they be selling a lot of pink world series hats you think?:p

i don't think so. i wanted to cover my back in case the rays lost, but turns out it backfired on me. and i blame a part of that to the braves being losers in the past and knowing they would be demoralized, but i had the gut feeling that they would still pull this out and win the thing, even though i didn't say it on here the past few days.

World Series baby!! What a hard-fought series. It did go a lot longer than it should have, but at least we found a way to win it.
Good series, Boston, it was a lot of fun. I would say better luck next year, but hey, we're in the same division ;)

GO RAYS!!!!

I think this will be a good series, 2 evenly matched teams. I hope people watch because I think it could be a 7 game classic.

The Rays deserve recognition for what they have accomplished. From worst to first is amazing. As a Sox fan, I'm still reeling.

The Rays should beat the Phillies in short order. It will be like a home run derby against the Phils pitching. They aren't that good.

Rays in five.

A couple of comments:

1) This proves that the MLB's ban on amphetamines had a HUGE effect this year--note that the Rays are one of the youngest teams in the MLB, and the Phillies' best players are all under 30 years old.

2) I can imagine games at Citizens Bank Park turning into Home Rum Derby because both teams have players that can bomb it out of the park--and Citizens Bank Park is notorious for being a hitter's park.

You're saying it had nothing to do with the fact that Garza went 7 innnings, gave up two hits and 9 K's?? He got the Sox to check swing a lot, getting behind in the count. Or that Drew struck out on a 97 mph fastball with the bases loaded?Sox could have been popping diet pills all day, wouldn't have made a bit of difference..
Hats off to the Rays. They outplayed the Sox in this series.Just like they did in the last two regular season series. No excuses other than they out hit,out pitched and out played the Sox...

No way. The Phillies have much better pitching than you seem to know, especially in the bullpen. They've got a closer who hasn't lost a save all season. Both teams have power to spare. It's probably going to be a home run dominated series, which I predict will go seven games. The results: a toss up.

Where was this analysis at the end of the regular season? One could just as easily say the Rays would be done if Big Papi weren't a shell of his former self right now.

One could just as easily say the Rays would be done if their pitching staff hadn't MADE Big Papi a shell of his former self right now.

In baseball it's all about timing, and luck. Neither the Cubs nor the Angels made it despite having excellent teams play great regular seasons. That's one of the most intriguing things about baseball -- you never can guess at the start how it will work out in the end. Would anyone have guessed in April that the Phillies would face the Rays in the World Series? Makes you wonder just what kind of tricks the baseball gods have in store for us next year.

They are both cinderella stories. It's been decades since Philly won, right? And did the Rays ever win or go to the world series? At the beginning of the season, some odds makers put the Rays at 200-1 odds of going to the series.

This will certainly be a historic, well watched world series.

Go Rays, and for that matter, Go Phillies. I can't wait.

This is the first real season the Rays ever had. They went from being the laughing stock of the league to being arguably the best team in the majors. And don't say they will be a one hit wonder like the Marlins were. They have these guys for a while before they become free agents. The problem will be resigning all of them.

The Rays lost (IIRC) 96 games last season and 100 games the season before. Now some are going to claim their turnaround is due to have dropped "devil" from their name, but I'm not going to go there.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call Philly a "cinderella story". They did win the NL East last year and were considered contenders for the division again at the start of this year. Philly's story is more about their aggrieved fan base than the unlikelihood of getting this far.
