you could go and read espn.com :p

basically the day after game one Francona said "beckett was a little sore"

personally I think this was just to make people try not to bitch so much about him starting wakefield (which was the right decision: if youk catches that pop fly and/or wake doesn't **** up that ball, they get out of that inning giving up 2-3 runs).

Boston's problems run a lot deeper than a pop fly or a misplayed ball.

Bottom line is they are simply getting outpitched and outhit.

Beckett was great but that was one game. It's not game 5 and it's not enough.

It feels awfullly traitorious for me to be cheering the tribe, since they killed off the best season my Mariners ever had ('95, when we had aRod, Griffey, Edgar Martinez in his prime, Randy Johnson...). BUT. As I'm a student in Cleveland now, I feel legit about cheering on the Tribe, who simply have outclassed the Sox. It's really turned into the ALDS redux--a group of superstars that don't work as a team with many overpaid examples of postseason mediocrity vs a cohesive unit of solid players with some great pitching to back them up. I admit that I already was biased against the BoSox since they buy talent à la Yankees like none of the other 6 teams in the playoffs really could...and having two teams in the bottom third of the payroll list in the World Series really would be cool, regardless of what the broadcasters/sportswriters/advertisers think ;)

Thats why, assuming the Tribe makes it to the WS, I'd be happy with either team winning. I'll probably root for the Rockies being an NL guy and all, but both teams remind me of my Cardinals last year. The underdog team that shouldn't have won, but kicked ass and won anyways. But regardless of which of the 2 win, it's a victory for the MLB either way because I always thought that any team that buys talent like the Yankees, and to a lesser extent, the Sox is just ruining the true spirit of the game.

Red Sox $143,526,214
Indians $61,673,267
Rockies $54,424,000
D'backs $52,067,546

Now if I am Red Sox fan, I'm saying "damn we suck" right about now.

Boston's 6 thru 1 hitters are batting under .200 for the series. You can't expect the 3-4-5 guys to carry you to a World Series. No hitting,no runs and therefore no run support for the pitchers. It's amazing what having a 2,3 or 4 run lead does for a pitcher's confidence and pitch selection..Cleveland's pitching has been shutting them down, esp Bettencourt....

Amen to that! That's exactly what I was talking about in Game 2 vs. the Angels.
And what is the cardinal rule that managers and coaches keep reminding players of?

Act like you've been there before!!

Manny just doesn't get it.

As I'm a student in Cleveland now, I feel legit about cheering on the Tribe, who simply have outclassed the Sox.
Welcome to the teepee. :)

If they don't get up early and put some runs on the board for Beckett,Sabathia will get in a grove.
Oranges are good for you, though.

What are these reports of Beckett being injured.
He's been saying his back keeps stiffening up. With him pitching Game 5, all the more reason to think Boston won't win another one.

Red Sox $143,526,214
Indians $61,673,267
Rockies $54,424,000
D'backs $52,067,546
I received this in my e-mail after the ALDS. :D I think it says it all:

Way to go Manny..Just what your teammates want to hear before a possible season ending game
"If it doesn't happen, who cares?" Ramirez said Wednesday afternoon. "There's always next year. It's not like it's the end of the world."

Nothing he says surprises me anymore, but talk about a loser's mentality...

He's right though. It's not the end of the world. They'll all come back next year and try to do it again.

Next year we're going to be even better too.

Bet you a cup of coffee the Yankees win the division next year...... ;)

I doubt that since half their team is going to end up leaving.

Assuming we resign Lowell (hopefully this happens), the only major part of the team that we'd lose is Schilling. He's going to be a year older anyways, so its not a big deal. Clay Buchholz will probably take his place in the starting rotation.

So you have Beckett (best pitcher in the MLB imo), Matsuzaka (who will probably have a better year, kind of like beckett 06 vs beckett 07), Lester (finally a full year in the majors with full prep will be great), Buchholz, and Wakefield (17 wins this year, they'll def pick up his option, he gives them a ton of innings).

Coco Crisp will probably be traded and Jacoby Ellsbury will be the starting CF and leadoff hitter next year. I expect that JD Drew will have a little bit of a better year too.

Yeah, yeah, yeah......wanna make the bet or not? ;)

Ummm....it is just a game after all.

Did anyone else read the Cleveland brought in Beckett's ex-girlfriend to do the anthem tonight? That's a healthy coincidence.

Yeah, I don't think it will bother Beckett though. You can't get to be that good if something that minor rattles you.

I hear that every year too.
Here's something you don't hear every year:

Joe Torre turned down a deal to return as Yankees manager for a 13th season on Thursday.

In a conference call, Yankees president Randy Levine said the club offered him a $5 million contract for 2008 with incentive clauses that could have increased the value to $8 million. The option for 2009 would have kicked in at $9 million if they won the American League pennant next season.

"It is now time for the New York Yankees to move forward," Levine said. "We will be doing that very, very quickly."

Good for Torre. You know there'll be lots of interest from other ball clubs.

hmm.. interesting first inning.

you can see the one downside to manny.. he's not the fastest fielder so he couldn't get to that ball.

Kielty, Tek, and Crisp due up next. Hopefully Crisp can try not to suck.

edit:
PUT JACOBY IN THE ****ING GAME

seriously, I don't care if Jacoby is a lefty. He could do better than Crisp who doesn't have a hit since game 2, and is batting .188 in his past 15 games.

A slide by Manny would have been nice. Or at least try to put a hit on the catcher..
Lugo and Crisp are pretty much two automatic outs...
