the leaks occur because Apple begins manufacturing a month or two before the announcement. This allows for rapid availability of the product on a large scale.
For those of us who have been around the block, the reason the first iPhone, iPod etc was never leaked is because they didn't start manufacturing until after the product announcement. This usually meant the product was not available for purchase 4-6 weeks after the announcement. I liked the old way better!
the downside if you announce before the product is manufactured it gives competitors extra time to come up with their own new product. I thought the old way was better also because it created tremendous hype and anticipation for the products availability.

how about no?
with such a high price and such low material and software, i dont know how will this products succeed.

The blue one seems..made of paper..seems faky but its not (?),
i have also to say that the green one with black display is very eye catching.

And in todays news. The Macrumors website posts a shockingly convincing rumor for once!
Hallelujah!

iPhone 5C's already packaged like this... Doesn't that mean that iOS 7 has passed the development process? And that they loaded it to iPhones?

For everyone who says the plastic is ugly...it's still prettier than your fugly otter box case!

Looks sooo bad. We've gone back to the early 2000's where phone innovation is relegated to fashion. It's like making jewelry.

It is. Its targeting low income or those who had to buy a Samsung.

For everything else, iphone 5S

I'm neither low income nor did I ever buy a Samsung-phone (well reality is that I'm still useing a cheap "feature-phone").

Problem is, the base iPhone 5 is 679Euro, no way in hell I would ever spend such money on whats little more than a toy (since the phone-part can be had near free these days).

The 4 is still a frigging 399Euro, not really thrilled at spending that much on 2 year old tech.

If they manage to atleast hold that price for the 5C it might be the 1st iPhone I'd seriously consider buying.
If not I might actually end up buying a Samsung afterall.

Good timing. This will put to rest those macrumors pessimists/insta-fake-believers who just ASSume and promote their belief that the previous leak today of the pink iPhone 5C is not legit and that that photo was photoshopped. Umm, no. This is legit, and this is the way it will be.

I have a hard job accepting that Apple can't do anything to plug these leaks. I was in another of Apple's contractors' plants (in Taiwan) and they were telling me to move to a private, secure area when using pre-production hardware, even though the visible, external changes were minimal.

I think it's more likely that Cook has a very different attitude than Jobs to leaks - they generate interest and hype, so let them be.

My thinking is that Apple's production has grown so much that it's impossible to plug in leaks in the late stage of mass production where millions of phones are being made ahead of the launch.

Leaks have always happened even during Jobs. I don't know if anybody remembers it but once Arn, the owner of Macrumors, appeared on a podcast to give his opinion on the existence of the iPhone 5 in 2011 just before the iPhone 4S keynote. His answer was that there would only be the iPhone 4S because there was no leak on the iPhone 5 part and if there was to be an iPhone 5, they would've seen the leaks by then.

Is it me or does the 5C look like a cheap Chinese knockoff of an iPhone now?

I miss Steve's taste.

these better cost $99 unlocked. why would anybody pay more if you could get an iphone 5s for $199 subby. americans, anyway, haven't jumped to full price phones and these cheaps aren't going to help them anymore.

how about no?
with such a high price and such low material and software, i dont know how will this products succeed.

with the exception of the body, looks like this guy is going to have the 5 internals, how is that low material and software?

It will succeed because of the apple logo on it.

I don't understand the purpose of multiple color backs. I think its safe to assume a majority of people put their devices into cases.

Two things: 1)this is supposed to be a cheaper option and 2)if Apple could make a cheaper iPhone in an iPod touch like body who would buy the flagship model?

Apple might not be concerned about cannibalization with the iPad, but with the iPhone? Absolutely.

Apple is a company known for making beautiful, quality products. I can tell you just by looking at this picture, that's not beautiful. That's not even close.

It seems to me that they're tarnishing their own reputation for making things of beauty if they release this.

A second thought: I'll bet the price is going to be so high despite it being so ugly that not a single person is going to buy it. They don't need to worry about the 5S being canibalized - they need to worry about the 5C not being bought by anyone.

If someone wants a cheaper phone, they'll go with Samsung, because I don't think Samsung makes anything that hideous. (I could easily be wrong - Samsung has a lot of crap in their portfolio.)

Looks like the bottom shell casings that leaked a month or so ago were actually real.

Also iOS7 is final considering these things are all packaged up and ready to go. Come on GM!

It's interesting that some of the shell casings are different sizes (yellow smaller than blue or white). This also matches the previously leaked image. I wonder what the reasoning would be.

Is it just me or does the green phone look like its in different packaging than the others? The green phone packaging looks more like current iPod packaging.

Yeah, this one is definitely different. At first I thought maybe it was just an iPod touch but that color doesn't exist. Perhaps it was prototype packaging?

Do we really need any innovation with the iPhone.
I have the iPhone 5 and have had every model since inception.
I also have tried the Galaxy s4 for a week.
Looking back there sometimes is a product that is so perfect that there is no
need to tinker with its design.
I feel the pinnacle of design in smart phones was the iPhone 4.
The feel, style and design have yet to be matched. Sure there are phones with bigger screens etc. I would be happy if Apple kept the 4 design and just kept updating the insides. There comes a point where a product is just right.
I like my 5 but overall the design of the 4 IMO was the end all. Truly a piece of Art. I would be willing to bet if Apple brought back the 4 design and updated the internals and also had several other models including new cheap plastic models, bigger screen models etc, the 4 design model would out sell them all!
Sometimes when you get it right it doesn't need to be messed with!

The 5C isn't really meant for North America. It's been discussed in length at how much phones cost in Europe and Asia compared to over here. Apple makes the choice to lose market share or gain it. Steve would have done the same, probably in his own manner but they need to offer a low cost alternative to keep driving the growth of iOS.
