Packaged iPhone 5C Surfaces Again in Multiple Colors, Video Shows Powered-On Unit

I was thinking this too. I'm not a parent so I don't know the nice option of having something out like the iPhone minus the phone part to save money BUT i have to imagine this will replace the itouch. Kids can use it just as a iTouch or if a parents wants throw the 5C on a family or pay as you go.
 
I can't believe Apple is still using plastic cases for iPods, much less doing it for iPhones.

This just gets worse and worse. I keep hoping this is all fake, no matter how many photos we see.

Plastic back? Even iPods don't have that. Those colours look like iPods, but somebody keeps writing (what looks like wonky iPhone) on the outside.

Let this all be one of those copy apple stores making all their own junk and passing it off as genuine.

This isn't happening… is it?
 
I think these are great for what they are - cheap ways to get consumers to pick an iPhone over Android. It gets them in the Apple ecosystem to possibly buy an iPad, Macbook etc. It also dumps the 3.5" screen and old 30 pin connector.

For some of us, we will stick with the premium iPhone. I certainly won't buy a 5C but my Mom might.

I can understand buying a white or black model for a different face color but the back just seems pointless. Some people actually like buying different cases because they think it makes their device look nicer. :confused:

Seriously the only explanation I can come up with is the 4/4S cannibalized the 5 more than Apple wanted so they won't make that mistake again. The 5S will clearly be the flagship and clearly look like a premium device.
 
The strong feelings here about the colorful plastic vs. the more neutral unibody aluminum definitely validates the decision to make two models. There's going to be something for everyone.

(I've never understood complaining about a product that doesn't meet your needs– especially when the same company makes a different product that is exactly what you want.)
 
Guys, i dont know if you noticed this but, in the green iphone 5c package from the 1st thread, it is upside down, u can see the front facing camera? i cant find it over the speaker grill ... if someone can confirm this i would say this photos are fake, and its a simple dummy phone or android clone xd

In the first photo of the blue iphone, it looks like there's sort of a lip where the blue and black meet? Plus these phones look super thick. At a minimum I hope they essentially have the current iPhone 5's innards and hopefully Apple doesn't gimp these. Even at the estimated cost of what, ~$500, I fail to see how these are budget phones. Free on contract doesn't mean theyre free.

Plastic back not only keeps the cost down but also means no convoluted engineering for an antenna. As for plastic phones - i had a Lumia 800 for a bit and it was one of the most solid phones I have owned. It felt fantastic to hold, looked high-end and was far more durable than my iPhone 4 or 5 so I am all in favour of making phones out of plastic......


However, these do not look anywhere near as good as the Nokia designs. Even Nokia's sub £100 Lumia 520 looks better than these. I really wanted to like them and will leave final judgement until seeing them up close but the colours don't seem anywhere near as attractive as the colours of the current iPod lineup. They also don't quite seem in keeping with the colours of iOS 7 - the new icons have a lot of saturated, vivid colours. These seem quite washed out and muted. We shall see though come next week.

I think that is the main reason they're doing this change. I see lots of ads in the mobile phone shop windows for the iPhone 4 and 4s but very few for the iPhone 5. I guess it's a price thing. The iPhone 4/4s is good enough for many people when it's available free on contract. They don't see the benefit of paying more for the iPhone 5. Presumably they will have to discontinue the 4/4s when the 5C comes out to make it work.

I'm with you as long as they're priced appropriately. Somehow I have a feeling these aren't going to be as expensive as some have suggested. I only say that because they didn't go the iPod touch/iPad mini route with the design. Seems to me there's a reason Apple is re-introducing plastic in to the line up. 1)to keep it from cannibalizing the flagship 5S too much and 2)to be able to hit a price point that will produce increased market share in the markets they'll be pushing this heavily in.

My guess is the 5S will come out with one or two new color options and will have brand new features the the 5C doesn't get. The 4S for sure will be discontinued. 5 might stay around at the $99 on conract price point. There will be a clear differentiation between the flagship and the cheaper phone so that people who aren't as price sensitive can more easily be upsold to the 5S.

No its not safe. And as soon as your family has more than two members, you will be happy to have more than two color options available. Still there is no reason, why the UI colors must be so hideous.

Seems odd that the logo is upside down when the box is lying flat. I guess they are meant to be displayed (are iPhones ever displayed in their boxes?) standing up.
 
This is the iPhone for the masses people.

I think the colors resonate well with current styles and trends of today and also work well with iOS7.

This is going to be one big grab of market share if Apple can pull it off.

Yes, iPods are - so this would be consistent packaging...
