The Pre commercials just creep me out. I can't stand to watch them anymore. Not 'cause I hate the Pre... just that girl... I think... she's sending me messages through the TV.

Agreed, I'd like to know why they're a muddled joke especially when its causing people to discuss them.
what if that was the idea all along? to create a weird ad that was so weird it stuck in tech peoples head(who have herd of the pre at least), just to get people talking and get some name rec?

Guess we should ask the females here how they like it - because, IMO, that's the market they are advertising to. I feel like this is a feminine products commercial.

I remember McNamee saying something about going after the female market because females liked physical keyboards better than the iPhone's.

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS BAD PRESS BUT IF THERE WAS......THIS COMMERCIAL WOULD DEFINITELY FALL IN THE CATEGORY. when I saw it, it felt like I was watching some kind of wired si-fi movie. THE CONCEPT SUCKS!!!! The girl is ugly and she looks like she needs to eat and needs to get a tan!!!

This commercial reminds me of the movie Constantene where the angel is played Tilda Swinton and she's like, a good guy, but her plan to make the world better is to let Satan's son destroy everyone so really, she's kind of the bad guy even though she talks nice?

And then god punishes her by making her human and then Keanu Reeves punches her in the face and she starts bleeding out of her mouth.

So, uhm...my point is that this comercial is weirder than that.

Someone is on cruise control for cool.

So ya I was watching tv and i saw the palm pre commercial about the juggler. I have to say, that is like the single worst commercial I have ever seen. The chick is frickin ugly, she talks hella slow and quiet which makes it boring, the juggler story is just retarded... Everything about it is terrible. I usually don't do stuff like this but I cannot understand how you could make a commercial that terrible. Who agrees/other opinions??

If your going to go into that then I'm going to bring up how immature the Mac vs. PC commercials are. That guy in the commercial is a total loser and it takes all credibility away from Macs as being used for anything besides playing around and being "cool". I stayed as far away from Apple as I could for the longest time just because of these commercials. I felt like if I owned an Apple product I'd just look like some emo kid who thinks he's cool and hip. Finally I broke down and got an iPhone and I love it, but I will never consider buying any Mac until they can put out some mature and grown up commercials.

Flame me if you want, but tons of people agree with me. Maybe not necessarily people on a mac forums site though.

^That is just ridiculous.

Just for the record, that girl is not ugly. I like her fair skin.:)

Some people just have a warped or unattainable idea of beauty I guess.

Microsoft ads are bad too, so I just don't use any computer.

And the food on tv is always fake-looking too, so I just don't eat.

Really, it's the only logical choice.

I have to say, I like the surreal quality of the Palm Pre commercials and can sorta get what they were trying to accomplish.

Do they want to make me go out and get a Palm? No, not really... Do they make me want to go out and LOOK at a a Palm and try one out? No, not really. Do they make me question my having an iPhone over a Pre? No, not really.

Then there's the question of the stoplight ad. This one make me think more of Bing than it did the Pre. "Bing, Bing, Bing..."

Some might argue that the iPhone ads have less "class," but they do stick with you and are on-message. There's something to be said when you're hanging out with friends or coworkers, some question comes up that we don't have an answer to, and a couple of us pull out our iPhones to look it up, jokingly reciting "there's an app for that!"

Wow, mature response. People are allowed to not like Apple ads and NOT be irrational. I think it's you with logic fail.

Turn up your sarcasm meter. He was making a comment about not buying something just because of an ad.

If people buy things because of an ad, then what's irrational about NOT buying something because of an ad? I'm not speaking to you personally, but your post made me think of this. Ad's define a product and that's why advertising is such a significant portion of a company's budget. I'm just saying that personally the way that Apple advertises the Mac's keeps me away from them. The iPhone ads tell me what the phone can do as opposed to what other phones CAN'T do, which I find mature and probably had a little sway in my choice to purchase my first iPhone.

I didn't think it was horrible. Some commercials are better than others.

I'm particularly fond of the new fruit by the foot/DNA commercial, that's a clever commercial. :)

Sh*t man... I was just trying to figure out if people agreed with me that the commercial was weird. But now it's turned into like a philosophical discussionof advertising. And everyone who is saying "we r talking about it, so the ad did it's job" I personally think that is incorrect. You see, we are all talking about the ad itself, not the product in the ad. The palm pre is not getting much publicity, just the creepy girl in the commercial. The few ppl in this discussion who have actually mentioned the pre said that it did not make them want to buy it. Therefore, IMO the ad did not do it's job.
And to samcraig: I didn't post this to "make myself feel better" or bcuz I'm "insecure" or something I honestly just wanted to know if other ppl thought this commercial was as bad as i did.
Btw Im the OP
EDIT: also to samcraig, I'm not some apple fanboy. Yes I have an iPhone and love it. Yes I have a mac computer. But u know y? I got the computer for free(it's like 10 years old). Otherwise I would probably still be using windows. I do prefer apple products for their ease of use the majority ofthe time, but I'm not some fanboy who buys everything apple automatically.

I hate that commercial, the music and the way she talks makes it seem like the beginning of a horror film preview.

I saw this today for the first time. I didn't think it was that bad. I mean, I'll admit it was a little weird, but they really kept with the image of the Pre. You also have to remember who they are competing against. As far as design goes, Apple has the "simple" theme going more than anyone else in the industry. Mainly because of Jonathan Ive. Anyway, I think it makes sense for Palm to go with a similar simple aesthetic. It did catch me off guard, which I guess can be good and bad. I felt like I was watching a yoga workout video or something.
