I just saw the ad on TV. I am now beginning to rethink my stance on crystal meth and cocaine cocktails being legal. That's the only thing that can explain miss "I want to keep up with my past lives on my Palm Pre!" (Can anybody figure out how to do the douchy line about the e?)

that girl needs a tan.

No, she does not.

Can someone explain to me how laying in a bed of lights and activating the skin's defense mechanism against ultra-violet radiation in order to darken it, dry it out and potentially cause skin cancer has become such a desirable characteristic in women?

I love fair skin. I'll take Dita Von Teese over Jessica Alba anyday.

As an ad man, I can tell you that the Palm Pre campaign and branding is one of the biggest muddled jokes in the industry right now.

whether you're an ad man is pretty irrelevant. the fact that you're talking about the commercial proves that its working.

I love how people just interjects that they're an expert in the industry and throwing out a so called "fact" with no backup whatsoever.

I disagree with that. The only reason we're talking about the commercial is due to the OP making the post. The commercial didn't bring us here. And the commercial doesn't make me want to buy the Pre. Also, they spent very little of the commercial showing the Pre. I know, she talked about juggling. Anyway, I don't think it was the kind of commercial that's going to get people talking about the product, unlike some of the Apple commercials ("there's an app for that").

Are you some kind of moron?

It took Apple TWO YEARS to get most of those features into the iPhone OS.

WebOS is a brand new platform. Most people realize it will take them time to catch up with Apple.

I don't understand why so many of you feel the need to bash any and all competition from other companies.

And Palm had two years of iPhone development to look back on in planning the Pre.

I agree. They should have taken what works really well with the iphone, and applied some of those principles. No music software for their phone is a perfect example. Now you got booted from sync and you're back to square one. Lack of planning and development is obviously hitting them pretty hard.

One the other hand, they are just starting this thing off in their respective market, so it's not really apples to apples... no pun intended :)

i would trade my iphone for a palm pre any day! too bad i can't use it on my current carrier yet. bleh. i could care less about itunes syncing. the only reason i'm using it is because apple forces me too. its the worst media player out there.

I was actually suggesting she get out into the sun once in a while. Tanning beds are dangerous. You need sunlight for proper vitamin D production in your body. I'll agree with you that Dita Von Teese pulls the look off, but the girl in the commercial needs to hit the beach for at least 30 minutes.

Yes, it'd be so much more clever and unique if they did ads with fake pilots claiming their phone gave them a takeoff slot ahead of every other airliner waiting in line.

As an ad man, I can say that no, no it doesn't. This is called 'building negative affect.'

How is that true. Obviously people are talking about how the girl is too white, too ugly, talks too soft, and no one is talking about the phone itself. So what does that tell you? That the ad sucked because it didnt do what is was put together to do.

I dont even remember what the commercial had to do with the Pre anymore.

SO, with that said, your wrong.

The problem with the commercials is that they don't really show the phone. In one of their minute long commercials, I saw the phone for maybe 6 seconds.

PCs maybe cheaper but it's not the same hardware. A $600 PC won't give me the performance of an iMac.

I disagree. I can get a cheaper PC with better hardware than a mac. For instance my HP Laptop will kill a Macbook Pro. I've had these specs for a year already, and Macs are just coming out with some of these features as standard. Most importantly the price I paid a year ago was much cheaper than a Mac with the same specs today. My brother has a Macbook Pro and my computer performs 100x better than his. He has problems running the Sims 3 on his Mac. My pc runs the game flawlessly. The build quality of his macbook is terrible. It's aluminum, so it has dents all over. He dropped it once and his screen shattered. He's missing buttons on his keyboard. He has to use a PC monitor and Keyboard in order to use his Mac. How ironic. :D

I apologize in advance because I know this thread was about Palm Pre commercials. But I'm tired of people kissing Mac a%%. It's really not that damn great! And yes I've used both PC's and Macs. Still prefer PC's. Tear my comment up if you wish. I could care less.

Palm Pre Commercial SUCKS - my 2 cents

Ok, first of all, with the war going on in Iraq and how the entire country is in a mess and we're all trying to have some pride in America - what does Palm do in it's first commercial??? They spotlight dancers from CHINA. Nothing against China but, not the best idea, Palm. Your marketing agency/department should have thought of that instead of trying to be so Zen-like.

Secondly, these are THE most boring commercials I have ever seen. They make no sense and have nothing to do with business and the need to get things done. So according to these commercials, I guess if I buy a Palm the sun moon and stars in my life are all going to align and I'll never experience any more problems in my life? Riiiiggghhttt. Not so much.

Thirdly, a friend of mine who has gone NUTS over this phone and he drives ME nuts by constantly defending the phone and putting the iPhone down, yada yada yada - yeah, he's already on his FOURTH PALM PRE! Something was wrong with the first one, the second one was falling apart and the third one was deleting all of his info, texts, etc all by itself. Sprint can't work on the darn thing in the store so they just switch out the phone. So he has to keep starting from square one by re-installing all of his music, etc. I think it's hilarious that he's having so many problems! I met a girl the other day and she left her iPhone in the SNOW and found it two weeks later and it worked fine. ROFL!

I also find it retarded that Palm has to constantly keep sending out updates to fix the phone. I know he's only had the phone for a month and they've sent out numerous updates. Hmmm - I see that as too many "oops issues" happening. So, no, immediately I've already decided you ain't gettin' my money. Besides, Sprint has be rated one of the worst networks and now they are saying they are 4G. Riggghhtttt.... Not so much.

I'm still buying an iPhone no matter what this dude says. What people don't understand is people like myself are moving completely over to Apple products. Therefore an iPhone will work seamlessly with my computer, Apple TV, and exactly what I want to accomplish with my household and business electronics. So, if you're live revolves around Outlook and Windows applications, then yes - maybe the Palm Pre is better for you. I don't know... All I know is that I HATE PC'S now. I have a 17" macbook pro and I LOVE IT! I've grown up on PC's and I got so sick of all the crappy software I had to put on my PC in order to prevent viruses, etc which resulted in slowing down my PC even more than it already was. I've never had any virus software on my Mac and I probably won't ever need it. I love the way Apple THINKS!

Oh geez - I just saw the Palm commercial again. Who in here thinks she looks like the Ice Princess in Chronicles of Narnia." LOL!

Laughing....

This commercial reminds me of the movie Constantene where the angel is played Tilda Swinton and she's like, a good guy, but her plan to make the world better is to let Satan's son destroy everyone so really, she's kind of the bad guy even though she talks nice?

And then god punishes her by making her human and then Keanu Reeves punches her in the face and she starts bleeding out of her mouth.

So, uhm...my point is that this comercial is weirder than that.

AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

"Kissing Mac's A**"

I don't think anyone's "kissing mac's a**" at all. Apple just thinks better than Microsoft. I love how Apple will take a concept and basically say "WHY? When you can just do this and this and you're done.?" With my macbook pro - I walk in to a wifi coffee shop - turn it on "do you wanna connect?" yep - thank you. And BAMMO I'm on. PC - got to networks, blah blah blah... click here click there. It's exhausting. Apple understands that we all aren't IT specialists. They truly believe in the KISS method.

Remembering it....

There's no such thing as bad press and if people are talking about the commercial then the ad company did their job. People are remembering and talking about it.

Yeah they sure did do their job. Irritates this sh** out of me and makes me not want to buy the da** thing even more! LOL!

I agree, sort of...

A) why does the OP need validation. If you think the ad sucks, you can just say that you saw the ad and in your opinion, you don't like it. If someone agrees, or doesn't - they will post their opinions.

B) Who cares? Enjoy your iPhone and stop comparing the phone, ad campaigns, etc. Different phones for different people. There are plenty of people who think the iPhone isn't a great phone. Again - it all comes down to personal preference. You (the OP) is clearly going to have bias if you're pro-Apple. You don't need to knock someone or something down to make yourself feel better about what you have or can do.

I agree with your "B" statement because this is the crap I keep dealing with from my friend who CONSTANTLY is providing me with stats and all kinds of "bad news" about the Apple. What you said about personal preference is what I've told my friend and is exactly how I feel. The Palm Pre is a cool concept. I will give it that - is it what I need? No. Therefore I will still be purchasing an IPhone.

Palm Pre Sucks

PALM PRE sucks

8 GB memory limit
No true apps - only webapps (so weak)
No voice and data at the same time (because of Sprint CDMA network)
No voice dialing (WTF)
No video recording (WTF?)
No voice memos (WTF)
No movie rentals (over the air or otherwise)
No visual Voicemail
No TV show rentals
No audiobook purchasing
No true app store (18 is a joke)
No console-quality games (like Resident Evil, Metal Gear, 1000's of others for iPhone)
No Peer to Peer games
No VoiceOver (the iPhone can read any screen to you, just like a Mac)
No native in-car integration (iPhone has this with dozens of cars)
No podcasts
Crippled copy/paste (for example - you can't cut or copy a webpage or any part of it)
No universal search (crippled - no e-mail search)
Tiny keyboard (iPhone landscape and portrait keyboards are bigger than Pre's real keyboard)
No auto wi-fi login (just jumps on any open network and remembers them all)
No 7.2 Mbps network speed
No Remote Wipe
No Find My Phone feature
Can't function as a Remote for the household stereo (Great for parties, especially with the iTunes DJ feature where people can request songs)
Weak battery life
More expensive than iPhone
Very scratchable screen
No oleophobic protective screen
No real music store (Apple can break the compatibility at any time and I don't want to take that chance)
No Voice Commands (control music playing by saying "Depeche Mode" for example)
No Compass
No multiple and customizable home screens like iPhone (Pre only has one screen)
No Parental Controls
No Video Editing
No onboard Ringtone Creation
No 5 person conference calls
No Webclips

And now it's banned from iTunes.

I LOVE IT!!!! LOL! Thanks for posting all of this!
