When I'm in the City Centre next week I'm going to pop round to the Apple Store in Glasgow. I think it'll make one hell of a panoramic photo given the location.

Agreed. Going from the 4 to the 4S, albeit just under three months ago, the performance difference is night and day. Smoother animations in iOS, faster loading times, quicker transitions through iOS menus, no stuttering when opening full folders, everything is just so much quicker.

The 5 is a really nice phone, but the fact there's no exclusive features in iOS 6 means there's no real reason to not be happy with the 4S. When I sold my 4, I knew that a) the 5 was coming in a matter of months and b) I'd never have been able to keep hold of the money I got for my 4 for that length of time without it being used for a bill or some other domestic matter!

The 4S was a x7 graphical performance boost over the 4, and the 5 is said to be a x2 graphical performance boost over the 4S. The thing is, no iPhone ever peaks graphically (in terms of games) until it's a year old because developers like to ensure the outgoing top model users are still kept happy (mainly because we're all still in contract and are "stuck" with our phone).

Look at Infinity Blade II last year. The 4 and 4S versions were near identical apart from improved frame rates on the 4S and some shards of light and particle effects. To a quick glance though, both versions looked identical, yet IBII was the flagship demo for the 4S like Real Racing 3 on the 5 this week.

Real Racing 3 will look, and perform, near identically on the 4S, 5, and iPad 3. Sure, the 5 might have some fancier shadows/reflections and dust/particle effects, but by and large they'll look exactly the same.
Yeah, definitely. I'd love to try out a 5 and see how it feels. It appeared the UI is snappier.

Yeah, there was a video posted on the day of the keynote (by The Verge I think?) and you could see there was a slightly snappier look to iOS when moving between menus in Settings for example. What I took issue with in that video though was the second bloke in the video who was speaking, who said "Woah, it's sooo much smooother and faaaaster than the 4S".

I mean, come on. I know it's a new, faster chip but the 4S on iOS 6 is every bit as good, if not better from personal experience, than it was on iOS 5. It's not slower, it doesn't stutter, there's no performance issues and especially not overnight from when that very same bloke probably showed his 4S off and said, "Look how smooth and fast my 4S is man"!

Don't get me wrong, I'll be heading to the Apple Store here in Glasgow on the 21st to get a hands on with the new iPhone. However, as a 4S owner I'm happy to wait it out until the now inevitable 5S.

Yeah, it may actually be that fast though. We've never had a massive increase in core performance before though, it's just been incremental improvements. Whether it's a ~1.2GHz dual-core A15 or 1.6GHz dual-core A9, it's going to be... blazing fast. I'd love to try one myself. I'm sticking with my 3GS though, I only need something that calls and texts now that I have my iPad. Will totally jump on the iPad 4 though... that's going to be sweet.

Should be. Anyone coming from an iPhone 4 should feel a difference. The CPU is 4x faster and GPU 14x faster. It's the screen that interests me, not in size but the full sRGB spectrum it is capable of. The 4/4S screen is pretty terrible for colour reproduction.

Yeah, it'll be quicker but I think we'll see the real differences in six months from now when developers decide to push more A6 exclusive graphical effects. In day to day iOS 6 use, I don't see the performance gap being what it was between the 4 and 4S, where the 4 can't handle a full home screen of apps without the animations stuttering and skipping frames.

iPad 4, yeah it's clear that the "new iPad" was nothing more than the iPad 2 + Retina Display, which annoys me a little bit, but it was still my first iPad so I can't be too despondent. The A6 was clearly ready to go, as proven by it's inclusion in the iPhone 5, but I suppose they need something major to put in the iPad 4. A6 and IGZO display with lighter/thinner body is a definite, but my 64GB WiFi + Cellular iPad 3 has plenty of life left in it yet ... I hope!

It should be like the iPad 3 -- it's quite good for colour reproduction. You should notice it even over a 4S, it's going to speedy!

Yeah that will be cool. Some nice graphics were capable on the 4S, I can't wait to see what they can do with double the processor and graphics performance.

That was really the sole reason to upgrade, for the Retina display. Next year they should be able to use a 32nm SoC with the same dual-core as the iPhone 5, and PowerVR 600 series graphics. And yeah an IGZO display would be much appreciated to reduce display power consumption.

I don't think it would've been ready for the iPad 3 if it is a dual-core A15.

I'm really impressed by this feature. It takes perfect pictures every time (in my experience) and I can't tell where it's all joint together.

.....

doesn't work in iOS 6 (I tried yesterday)

Why would you want to?

The arctile is to enable the hidden feature in IOS 5, not 6... Plus, its already built into IO6 anyway, so this doesn't make sense.

Update : this doesn't even work in IOS 5.1 1. I tried finding this key they mentioned in the video, but its not listed.. Apple must have chnged somethng..

That means for those of you that have Panorama mode working in IOS 5 or 5.x, you must have jail-brocken them.

I'll just wait till IOS 6 is pulically available.

I'm still trying to get the hang of it, but here is one I took at the Nintendo store over the weekend.

These images are pretty damn amazing...

No kidding, hahaha, wow, I'm not going to post mine now ...

Though I was using a 3rd party app, so I guess I'll wait till Wednesday and see how the Apple system works (I promise a beach when after it's installed :) )
