Yeah, where on earth did you find that info?

When I check my order status, it comes up with the page with the four square pictures at the top, you know - order being reviewed, in process, being built, dispatched.

Below that are the line items for each item, and beneath each line item it says "Ship via: Kuhne & Nagel N.V. Tracking Number: 800264XXXX".

This is a link through to another page - at least, it is for me!

This other page is a tracking page for my item where I could see this info.

Because I am excecssively bored, here is a link to an image showing how it works for me:

My PB, Airport and InCase Sleeve all went from various parts of the Globe to Luxemberg, to me. I have a feeling it has something to do with Tax and import/export duties.

Uhm, no it isn't - the FW bug in Panther will fry your FW hard drive during Start-up so while unplugging it during installation is sensible it only protects your drive till you restart - then bye bye data!

Note this bug 'only' seems to affect some users, not all.

Oh great... so no rhyme or reason then. Off to scour the technical forums...

Thanks for the info though.

BTW, this has got to be the longest UK-only thread on macrumors! Shame it's had to be so negative:(

I'm suprised we haven't had one of the mac zealots in to tell us to 'lay off Apple, it's not their fault, they're working on it, blame the couriers/record labels/copyright laws/import duty/sales taxes/price of petrol/solar flares' (delete as applicable)

I've created a monster...

But at least we have the beginnings of a community here!

Macrumors UK?

Still no delivery for me today.......I've spent the morning firing off myriad emails to Apple UK and HQ, complaining about the obvious lack of logistical skills that this lot have, also contacted the local trading standards, who promised to have a look into it (though did say, 'was there any small print').......

On a different note - someone should set up a Macrumors UK site.........

i know there is the macuser/mac world uk sites and forums....but is there any specific uk based sites/forums to discuss events, comments etc?

All of our copies were shipped via Spring - your copy must have been handled differently because you bought it with DVD-Rs. Clicking on the order tracking number just comes up with a silly page from Apple, with nothing remotely useful on it at all.

Yes you have :D

Do you lot want a kind of UK Apple users site? Not an MUG, but a more general site? I could set up a vB discussion forum today if you folks think it'd be of any use... thoughts?

Sounds like a plan :) I'll get to work on a vBulletin forum (like this one) now, and I'll post access details when I'm done, and we'll go from there. Back in a bit!

mac users site would be a smart idea, help us keep a track of local resellers offers, events, etc... plus not forgetting just general UK moaning...we're still the worlds no.1 at that!

Can't we ask arn for a new section in the MR forums?

Then we can keep our existing profiles, and now and again our world wide cousins can pop in and see what hell it is to be a mac user in the UK.

I'll happily email him about it, so can you all post back here or PM me if I can include your name in the request to Arn?

Doesn't that cost money for you? Can't we ask arn for a permanent UK area on forums.macrumors.com??

We all appreciate your help here!

Well, 'tis done.

Just emailed my complaint to my local Trading Standards Office. We'll see if anything comes of it - I won't hold my breath, but who knows...

Great idea to start a UK Mac users moaning, sorry DISCUSSION, site! Would be a great place to gauge just how much discontent there really is over things like crippled iPhoto etc. Maybe Apple might take some notice of that?

Might be good to also say nice things about Mac's, there are plenty of those too!

Nice idea. I was looking for a UK Mac forum the other day, and drew a complete blank (apart from Macworld UK, which didn't seem very useful).

'suppose the only problem with a UK macrumors section would be every other
nationality would request their own, net result- heaps of work for arn. I'm a 'glass is half empty' sorta guy if you hadn't already guessed...or boarderline alcoholic, take your pick!;)

either way count me in

A real independent UK Mac forum would be great.

MacWorld is too cumbersome, and limited due to being owned by a publisher.

The other day I was looking to sell some Mac kit in the UK, and such stuff is not allowed on the MacWorld site.

It would be great to have a UK forum on MacRumors, or a separate site even.

As for trading standards - I am fairly certain you will get nowhere. Apple haven't actually done anything wrong, it's just hugely inconvenient.

If we had paid for next day delivery, then we would have a claim for a refund.

Although Apple claimed they would deliver it on the evening of the 24th, they provided delivery 'for free' and so our refund for the poor delivery service would be limited to £0.00.

Furthermore, you already have the right to refuse delivery on the item, and get a full refund from Apple, so you could effectively go buy a retail copy now, and refuse delivery of the one you originally ordered.

Just my two PENNETHWORTH (see! I'm a Brit. We don't have cents here, ha ha)

A UK forum would be good (standalone or within Macrumors).

Still waiting. I've emailed Apple, but don't expect much.

Ho hum:rolleyes:

Hi, I’m new to this forum and quite impressed with the Mac communities as a whole. I've just "switched" as it were and already I’m bemused by apple UK. Being from a FreeBSD UNIX background i could not resist OSX any longer,

I ordered a new iMac 17"-FP 1.25ghz with 1gb DDR ram(ram extends build time). I made the order via telephone to applestore UK Ireland on thursday to ensure i would receive the machine with panther. They could not tell me whether i would receive the machine with panther or not, but ensured me that they would send it free of charge if i didn't.

The quoted delivery for my machine will be, 3-5 days build, 3-5 days delivery(express). So, excluding non business days i SHOULD get the machine this Thursday at the earliest, next Friday at the latest.

A few questions..

Any of you that have ordered hardware such as this from apple, were they more efficient with such deliveries than they have been with panther? I now regret ordering from appleUK after reading forums such as these. Can i expect my machine any time soon? I could have bought from micro Anvika or whatever, in trafford selfridges but its too late now as you cant cancel an order during build. Even if you can, I cant claim the same discount, nor can they provide the 1GB DDR ram onspot

Additionally, i've heard something about them changing the mouse/keyboard on the new iMac, the machine i played with had the 'soapy' optical mouse which i was quite impressed with. I spend most of my time in tcsh anyway. What mouse/keyboard will be packed?

If any of you, British or not; are using the 1.25ghz iMac with panther installed, what is the performance like?

Thanks in advance, At least you people are only waiting for an OS update (appealing as it is) from applestoreUK and not your first £2k mac.

is it during installation or at any time? I've been reeeeeal careful with it since the install.

If it affects you (unlikely hopefully) it happens during ANY restart and you should switch off your FW800 drive before restarting or booting up.

Welcome!

I would reckon you would get it next Thursday/Friday. My Powerbook took about a week and a half to arrive from when I ordered it.

You will also be able to track the delivery which can be quite useful for estimating when you will get it.

Patience, it will be worth the wait!

True, I'm 100% behind whichever option we go.

I'll help all I can too. I've leaving for the states for a few months on wednesday, but can be "our man in NYC" if you like?

Look at my site (www.fourdegree.com) if you think my style might fit any design or web work that might help you set it up.

Also, check out geeklog.com - that's where I got the free server app to run my work-in-progress verbosecoma.com

Then we could submit our own stories and reviews etc?

This will be great!
Hamish

ps, we could call it MacRumoUrs
