Ooh, update!

Just got off the phone talking to a very helpful lass from Spring - she told me that they'd had quite a few packages from Apple in the last few days, and that it should be delivered any day now. Some new info she did give me however;

Deliveries should come from a company called "White Arrow", and that they deliver in business hours - not just 8am-1pm, so I guess there's a slim chance that it might still turn up today, although I'm not placing any bets.

Fulfillment order

Cor, I really feel for you all....

...my fulfillment (£13.99) order shipped last week via the dreaded "Spring", but I can't install it until the Panther update for Pro Tools comes out anyway (mid-November). Still not arrived yet anyway!

Good luck to all those calling the Apple Store. My PB 17" 1.33 order was a nightmare through them: taking a total of 19 days to ship from TW to the UK. Impossible to get through.

"Hello, Apple Store UK, Craggy Island?"

:D

P.S. Anyone else a little worried by reports of Panther killing external FW hard drives on installation? Ha! Me too!

Well, unplug your external hdd whilst you upgrade then!

VERY interesting. Can they track the parcels?

Are we beginning to think the reps at Apple really don't have a clue what they're talking about?

H

maybe we should phone them to see if we get the same answer - that they are shipping via White Arrow.

If so, why did some of you guys get your Panthers though regular (Royal Mail) post?

No, the only tracking numbers I had were the Apple ones beginning with a W and that other one. Spring said that they needed a 9-digit number to track international post.

Mmmmm..I've got a nine digit tracking number.

Can we ascertain that some were sent by snail mail and some courier?

My statement says shipped by Spring.

Ooh, where'd you find the 9 digit tracking number?

Give spring a ring and you should be able to track it.

P.S. I'm a poet and I don't know it!

Just called Spring: "It's like deja vu, I've just had a call about apple" said the nice girl - :D

They can track with a 9 digit, but they have no idea what the 800... numbers Apple are giving out mean.

I suspect that if you got a 9 digit number then yours is Spring (who MAY, only MAY use White Arrow), and if not, then you got a Royal Mail job.

Hope this helps.

Ok, so that discounts the tracking number I have (I have an 800 number...)

Royal Mail it is.

Spring 2004 - very good! :p :D

That's a bit difficult if you want to install Panther on your EXTERNAL HDD, like I do.

Otherwise your suggestion is foolproof.

(except for the fact that if Apple didn't manage to squash this bug in QA, who knows what else it might do to FW external drives).

Ha ha ha, this is killing me. Hilarious.

Classic! Here is the tracking information on my copy of Panther:

- Shipment Picked Up (DUBLIN, DU, IE) - 23 Oct 2003 - 13:01
- Arrive Terminal (LUXEMBOURG, LU, LU) -_27 Oct 2003 - 10:44

Yes! It has gone from Dublin... to Luxembourg! In 4 days!

It has gone past my location... and ended up even further away!

for some reason Apple UK send their goods to Luxembourg (the European distribution centre) first and then to the destination.

The same has happened with all my Apple stuff from AppleStire

It's all a bit screwed up, eh?

PS How the hell did you find that out??

Yeah, where on earth did you find that info?

Long story..

First of all a phone call when I read the tracking details of my new Powerbook.

In this case the Powerbook had come from Taiwan and was stuck in Luxembourg. When I asked why Lux., the rep said this was their Euro distribution centre.

Then I bought an Airport Card from Apple Store. It never turned up, but the rep told me it had arrived in Luxembourg from Eire and had been shipped to the UK. Obviously I questionned this and they replied that this always happens as Lux is their distribution centre.

Call Apple, you wil probably get a completely different story!

Uhm, no it isn't - the FW bug in Panther will fry your FW hard drive during Start-up so while unplugging it during installation is sensible it only protects your drive till you restart - then bye bye data!

Note this bug 'only' seems to affect some users, not all.

My BTO ibook went via Luxembourg on it's way from Taiwan to here. I'm not sure if Panther does the same. I've not looked at the packing for my copy of Panther to see where it's been. I may well do when I get home.
