Guys, I don't recommend getting Parallels 8 at all. Just for one reason, they'll spam you with ads. Yes, ads..in a paid product.

They have the balls to insult customers suggesting that they're not ads and we *wanted* them to give us those information. You can find out here: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=258991

Even if it is a bug in Parallels, they should've never have been there in the first place.

At least VMware has the decency not to pull off those scams and ripping us off *properly*.

I've never seen any ads in Parallels 7. All of this ads business is news to me...

The pricing per se doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that they make me buy a full license for each of my three Macs (plus my GF's). How about a multi-license pack, Parallels?

Never read the license too.
I assume one license is for one user by default, that is 3 Macs here only used by me - computer freak, yeah - and installation/activaton on those went through without any errors or anything when I installed PD7.

Was just about to hit submit

Was just about to hit submit for the upgrade. I can handle buggy software. I can handle paying for upgrades. I can even handle a virus accidentally installed. What I CAN NOT handle, is ******** advertising in a paid product. I buy books/ebooks, no advertising. I purchase TV shows/Movies through iTunes, no advertising. I read news on pay sites (I have no problem paying for what I use) or ad free sites. I do not own a T.V. and listen to commercial free radio. Finally, I use AdBlock. Every piece of software I own is ad free. If I see an ad, nuked into oblivion. The sad thing is, I've run Parallels since version 4. Why does parallels h8 loyal customers so much?

Hey guys! There's this really cool thing built into OS X that's not only free but allocates all of your system resources to your second OS of choice. It's called Boot Camp. Ever heard of it?

Now try running StarWars the old republic in bootcamp, whilst also using handbreak to encode a DvD, have a safari webpage open that you can swipe to from within the game to check things online, have your Mac Mail open in another window, and iTunes running to server your 5TB TV and Movie collection to the house...

Think ill stick with parallels , much easier than having to reboot every 10 minutes.

Ill save bootcamp for the series gaming sessions

You didn't use any terminal command to force it to stop loading the ads?

How often do you use Parallels? It didn't appear for me for the first 3-4 months but in the last few months, I've been getting it once a week. Free *antivirus* solution, free *hotspot VPN* for 12 months, free etc.

You can look at the thread that I linked, dozens of customers of saying the same thing and more on other forums.

Hopefully the OEM version from NewEgg will satisfy the upgrade policy (the policy says it doesn't, but it sounds like that bunk).

I went through another "backdoor" to upgrade my PD6 and I received my new PD8 serial this morning!

I'm going to upgrade this afternoon, actually in the middle of using Parallels at the moment :)

I'm feeling genuinely ripped off.. Are they trying to leech us out of $50 a year?

1. Nope.

2. Every day. I bought P7 in June as part of a software bundle. I guess it has only been less than 3 months so the ads might start up soon. So you see the ads when you launch P7, before starting up a VM?

On NewEgg's product page it also states that the upgrade to parallels 8 ends 10/31, so the OEM version should qualify. If it doesn't I'm sure they'll be getting calls from more than a couple customers.

There are no ads in Parallels 8. It's one of those things you see with every product. Just check off the box "Do not show this again."

With the only exception that in PD7 at least this doesn't mean "don't ever bother me again with advertising" but rather "I don't want to see this one specific advertisement again, show me future/other ads please".

I'll watch here to see if everyone gets the upgrade, if not it's going back. Here is why I purchased it. NewEgg claims free upgrade on their website!

Excellent!

I've run into a few problems in the past with various "white/no box" OEM upgrades and then using them as the basis for subsequent upgrades, looks like this is a good to go.

Like I said, I'm already covered :D Glad to hear there's a another channel for a PD6 -> PD8 upgrade for $29 :)

Is the VMware to Parallels upgrade also allow me to upgrade to v8?

I cant seem to find it...

I'm a computer programmer and everyone I know uses VMware Fusion. Virtual machines that were created from a PC can be used on a Mac with Fusion. What advantage does Parallels have (besides the price)?

Over the years I've switched back and forth depending on whose product was faster at the time. Parallels has been the winner for me over the past couple of versions.

Some of us like to cmd-tab into Windows rather than having to reboot the machine entirely.

Yes, that's how I got my PD7, through the VMWare competitive upgrade (also $29) and I have my new PD8 serial/link from Parallels (came in this morning).
