So THAT explains way "Virtual Box" is not even mentioned in the article. Those who pay get the editorial coverage?

Take a look at it here. It is a free open source competitor to both VMWare and Parallels.
http://www.virtualbox.org/

I have been using Virtual Box for a couple of years on my Linux desktops ( Ubuntu and OpenSuse). I have been very pleased with its performance. However, on my Mac I prefer VMWare because it seems a tad bit more polished than Virtual Box. And for me that was worth $80.

I had the first version of Parallels, which was a miserable experience. Then they charged full price to move to the second version (which really should have been the first, while the first should have been a free beta).

I learned my lesson. I no longer give my money to companies that treat their customers as beta-testers.

Anyone tried the remote access yet? I'm currently very happy with Parallels 5, but would upgrade for this feature if it works well.

I'm not sure how well this would work compared to RDP. Yeah, it's part of Parallels, but they are likely doing console emulation (VNC) which is significantly slower than RDP (the native Windows remote protocol).

I use JumpDesktop to climb into my VM when I'm away from my desk (via iPad) and it works great.

Can you access Flash content through mobile?

If you can access IE through your mobile device, can you also access and interact with Flash content?

Thanks. I'll give that a try and wait to see the reviews on remote access with Parallels.

cheap vs free

Have Parallels 3, but can't use with Snow Leopard. Haven't needed it until now... But can someone convince me why I shouldn't go with VMware for $10? That's pretty attractive...

If price is the driver then just use VirtualBox from Sun/Oracle. It's free and it works.

The price is truly right.

Wtf??

Are those screenshots really from Win7? How can anyone work in that garbage? Consider how much real estate is taken up by the email content v. all the stupid command icons ... wow.

I counted more than 50 tiny icons in that second shot alone. Doh!

Should have verified that coupons work. :p

I was sorta in the market for a newer version of either Parallels or VMWare (currently using VMware Fusion 1.0).... $49.99 for Parallels or $9.99 for VMWare? Tough choice.

Hmm... I paid to upgrade from 4 to 5, and didn't notice any difference. The crystal-view mode seemed exactly like the coherence-view mode.
I don't see anything of significance in version 6, so I'll be sitting this one out. Call me when something interesting happens. Lol :p

If the speed increase is what they claim it to be that should be by far the best feature for users.

Man $10 for VMW, tough to not pass that up... I'm using Parallels 5 now, but its a bit slow and laggy... was going to jump on 6, but $50 vs $10 tough call

I was planning on a jump to VMWare anyway since they seem to have better support for Linux guests. I have no use for Windows, and that seems to be Parallels primary focus.

I was this >< close to upgrading to Fusion 3.1 last week. This saves me $40! Good things come to those who wait!

I followed the link from the article. Hope Macrumors got the credit for it.
