IF you have a phone and an IMEI number to give them, Verizon will 2 day FedEx you a SIM card for free and I believe it will already be active if you give them the IMEI and don't already have a device on the line.

It has to be a 4G LTE phone though!!!!

Bought an HTC Thunderbolt (cheapest) off Swappa. May see if the seller will go ahead and give me the IMEI so I can get a SIM on the way.

Would buying one from someplace like this work?

On a side note, once you have 250 posts, and have been a member for 3 months, a Marketplace forum becomes available that does allow for person-to-person transactions. It isn't intended for commercial sales, but one-off sales and trades between members are permitted there.
thanks gtk.

Huh, no hard credit pull for add-a-line?

And no way to get more than one add-a-line at a time?

Guess I need to RTFT!
correct on all counts, lol!

I was under the impression that there was something different about the standard SIM cards that made them incompatible with 4G LTE devices that use mini, micro and nano sims but I could be wrong. Let us know how it goes, thanks!

Uh-oh. May have messed up, then. Confirmed that the Thinderbolt is 4G LTE before purchasing, but didn't think the SIM size would be an issue.

In the past, I've used my iPhone's nano SIM in micro- and mini- devices using adapters. Also used a Verizon micro-SIM back and forth between a hotspot (micro-) and a modem (mini-).

I was hoping I'd be able to get Verizon to just give me a micro- and use an adapter to put it in the Thunderbolt (mini-)...

I just searched and it looks like the micro SIM cards will work in a Thunderbolt with an adapter because they are the mini SIMs according to this (page 11):

Ok. Thanks. I was originally confused because I didn't realize the postage-stamp-size ones prior to micro- were considered mini-. I thought those were just SIM cards.

May still see if I can figure out a way to get a micro- rather than mini- since it would give me more flexibility on decides without having to trim/cut.

Maybe just ask VZW if they'd send you a nano-SIM. That gives you the most flexibility since it will work in anything with the right adapters.

The GNex uses a micro SIM and it is a pretty cheap device.

Yeah. That would be best. Didn't know whether they would insist on sending a specific SIM size based on the device. Thought I could just tell them it was an iPhone 5 or something, but thought the ESN might tell them differently.

Many phone or chat reps will just mail you one without the ESN of the phone if you tell them what kind of phone you will be getting for your line. If you give them the actual ESN of the device they will send you the appropriate size for the device.

Yes this is true I usually say I'm getting an iphone 6 from my sister and I'll need a SIM to activate but I'm a full time caretaker and I can't get away to go to a Verizon store and most reps will send you a SIM - if not. hang up and call again :)

On another note all they had was Gold 128's so I guess I'll try the whiteface route under protest!!!

I don't mind buying one from a local place or online if it means getting to choose a micro- (or nano-) rather than mini-. I just wasn't sure whether the ones sold online or on eBay would work/are what I need.

Houston we may have a problem

Has anyone (cnotes? mark? bought a phone in store today?)

Took a few days off for the weekend etc and decided to get back in it today. Went to the store, they have two 64gb, wohoooo! We start the process, the rep goes "huh that's different". I couldn't see what was happening, but it occurred right after he scanned all the barcodes at the bottom of the box.

We go through the normal process, enter last four, phone #, PW etc. Hit to accept the credit check. It says flip the device and use the cardswipe device they have to put in my social. Hmm that's new. I do it, then asks me to accept credit check again. Comes up with an error and he runs off to get a phone to call. He calls and I overhear him say he got an error 63. They're asking him basic questions, then his answer is "sort of", he then walks off with the devices and on the phone with the rep.

Comes back, I speak with the Verizon rep, confirm my PW and name. They then say my account is under 48 hour review. I asked her why, she doesn't say. I ask her if Verizon will contact me or I should go to a store or what. She says just give it 48 hours someone is going to have to go through my account.

So all in all, I was *THIS* close to two 64GB devices but so far away. Now my account I guess is locked, for who knows what reason.

Anyone have this experience? Has the in-store adding a line process changed since last Thursday? Like I said the entering the social on the back of the phone is new to me. Did they close the loop today? What in the world was she asking him that he scurried off so quickly.

So many questions, not sure how to proceed yet.

edit to add:

Tried to buy one online just to see what was happening. The glitch is still there. I got this however:

Important Information.

"Based on the information you provided, you will only be able to pick up your iPhone in an Apple Retail Store.

Verizon may also require a deposit in order for you to purchase a new iPhone; deposit can only be paid in an Apple Retail Store.

You can still continue with your iPhone purchase on the Apple Online Store by selecting the Personal Pickup option, and then picking up your order in an Apple Retail Store.

If the Personal Pickup option is not currently available, your iPhone will be removed from your Cart and you’ll be able to purchase an iPhone, depending on availability, in an Apple Retail Store."

Just spent 35 minutes in the store waiting on activation. They finally said there was a system wide error. They said I could come back later and try again. I didn't cancel the order because I knew I would have to contact CORe and fix the order. So I'll try to pick it up tomorrow.

I get a message saying I can only do p/u in-store every time but no deposit has ever been required.

You may have too many pending applications open?

A BIG thank you to the guys in this thread that helped me out, I got my UDP going earlier this morning!
Woot!! Welcome to the club!!!!!

If you have a Verizon authorized retailer (aka premium retailers) they will sell you a Verizon SIM of your choice. Idk about the ebay ones.

Where would I get pending applications? I haven't done any ship to home. Nor have I ever canceled or walked out on anything. I was told my account is under review. Have no clue why though. Have you had to put your SSN on the back of the phone before (the card swipe device)?

This morning I saw the "new" procedure you are talking about but mine went through fine. Went to another store to pickup more and they didn't do that same procedure and also went through fine. I did overhear that they had a system update for Easy Pay and did notice some screens are a little different. My buddy also grabbed some today and had analyst reviews in the afternoon but his went through fine. I think as long as the glitch is there online we'll be able to activate. The apple software changing most likely doesn't have anything to do with Verizon able to activate the phones correctly. Hoping this glitch stays for awhile. $$$$$

How many times have you ordered online and got all the way to the cart screen only to end at the "sorry" screen or receive the unavailable for pick-up message? This matched the number of "pending applications" that CORe showed on my account. They have since been deleted and I'm back in business.

Hmm interesting. Any the only time to get to CORe is via a rep correct? Wonder if I should go back to the store or just wait the 48hr window. Just placed an order with fiance's account and it's ready for pickup. It seemed weird that Verizon rep wouldn't even tell me why my account was held.

Yes, the only way to speak to CORe is to have an application number. Without it you will have no other menu options. Not sure if it has been posted yet, but here is the number to CORe 1-877-375-9081.

I got them from having phones in my cart and checking out then getting the Sorry message - that pending application stays open even though I didn't get a phone.

no but I only do p/u in-store never order in store.
